QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) well, that was a bigger joke than White Sox playoff tickets, what did they have available 25 tickets?? On sale: 10:00am Sold OUT: 10:00:15am What did you guys expect..? The only reason tickets were sold at all is because some ST holders declined their tickets.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) Smart move to appease you ticket base. The ticket base already has their tickets. This appeases the whiners.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) I saw the post and responded, it's not like I was trying to rub your face in it Steff. I saw your post, looked up the stats, and posted. I didn't say you were Jim.. I simply saw your post and responded.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) You could say that. He was never as consistent as he was in 2005. In NY, he was out of the rotation a couple of times and in the pen because of inconsitency. He showed flashes of this in NY, but he was never someone they could depend on, as far as I saw. I'll agree with that, but he showed strong signs of being able to do it, and handle it. It's not like he never stepped it up before.

QUOTE(Molto @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) While both Garland and Contreras are talented and can both easily repeat what they did in 2005, I would hope the Sox avoid signing Contreras for the money he's asking. Prior to 2005, neither of these guys ever reached their full potential. Now perhaps they finally have figured themselves out and will be good to go for a few years, but for a team to give three year deals for nearly $10 mil a year each to two guys who are coming off their breakout season ... that just isn't logical. Putting faith in one of them to never revert back to their old selves is one thing, but thinking both of them are going to repeat '05 and do it through '08 is iffy. Contreras had a "break out" season...

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) I was pointing out that he had 5 full years of service in reference to the no trade clause being plausible. I'm aware. I was pointing out that if you had read a few more posts you would have seen that I corrected myself.

911 operator - "Is anyone else home...." Caitlyn - "No.. they're all dead." :headshake http://www.wkbn.com/news/local/2122902.html Police Release 911 Call from Christmas Day Double Homicide A chilling call for help from a seven-year-old girl who watched the brutal murders of her mother and a family friend on Christmas Day. The man accused of doing it -- the child's father -- was in court on Tuesday. On Tuesday, in addition to filing two charges of aggravated murder against 32 year old John Marsh, officials also released a horrific 911 tape of the original call for help made by the Marsh's seven-year-old daughter Caitlyn. She told authorities Marsh was waiting for them, inside the home, when the family got back from a holiday dinner. We want you to know the audio from this tape is incredibly chilling, as well as graphic. But authorities say that is exactly how they would describe the scene of what happened there in Williamsfield Township this Christmas Eve. It's something no child should ever experience. Authorities say there was a history of domestic violence between suspect John Marsh and his wife, Jennifer. In fact, a divorce was pending, and a civil protection order had been filed again Marsh. None of it, though, was effective in preventing a horrific crime. “At that time we began processing the scene, we learned he had taken the four year old to his residence in Williamsfield Township,” said Ashtabula Co. Sheriff William Johnson. It was there he kept police at bay for nearly 30 minutes before surrendering without incident. “We know we have the guy who is responsible for the deaths and that's what's important right now. Now, we have to put it all together,” Johnson said. Police say their investigation will be helped greatly by the quick action and courage of seven year old Caitlyn Marsh who made that 911 call. But they add they're frustrated such a crime couldn't have been prevented. “This is tragic all the way around. And sometimes it gets to that point. Yeah, it's frustrating. People can make threats every day in this profession. We hope that doesn't happen,” said Johnson. Unfortunately, in this case it did. Officials say it will be up to a grand jury to decide if Marsh will be eligible for the death penalty. Now, the Marshes did have three children -- seven year old Caitlyn, four-year-old Lucas who was taken from the scene and a 12 year old who wasn't home at the time -- but to say that none of the children were harmed is relative. They had no physical injuries, but certainly emotional scars are there that will likely last a lifetime.

QUOTE(JoeBatterz @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) Bottom line: SI gave us the shaft. Everyone can shaft us for all I care.. still got the title and a nice ring out of the deal.

QUOTE(SEALgep @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) Willie is certainly a talent. His defense is very good, and his offense is coming around. I hate the fact that he is a smoker, especially since speed is his main asset. Either way, some team will pay little for his services and gain a solid player. He quit last March.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 27, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) I agree and if I were a GM in need of a cheap 2nd baseman, I'd go after Willie. He's a far better player than most of the posters here think he is. He could be a much better player.. his attitude gets in the way.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) Garland was going to get $7-8 million in arbitration, so in essence he received a 2 year $22 million extension. Contreras looking for the same money + 1 more year is far from unreasonable. He was the guy starting each playoff series, not Garland. Agree. And the guy has a history, unlike Jon to date, of getting the job done.

QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) He just finished his 5th full year and he had about 1/2 yr. in 2000. Yea those 15 starts and +6 ERA were memorable. I corrected myself.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) I didn't say he was untouchable, I said he was about as close as you could get. OK.. TomAAAtoe, tomahhhtoe. I think the board understand what you meant and my follow up.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Cue emphatic da, da, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa music. Hire out Gene Honda to say, "FOR THE RIGHT PIECE TO THE PUZZLE, NO ONE IS UNTOUCHABLE" Yuk, yuk, yuk...
-
QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) BMac seems about as untouchable as you can get. For the right piece to the puzzle, no one is untouchable.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) I didnt say THEY would rather trade Freddy. I said I would. He makes the most sense to me, and frankly I think that down the road he may be the least effective arm we have. I agree. I don't see Jose going anywhere until, at the earliest, the break.

Jeff Reardon charged with robbery in Fla

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) He was really nasty in his prime, but he hung around for about 4 years too long. He didnt have much left in his arm when he finally retired. He had a crazy slider IIRC, and a power change. drop down/sidearm delivery. '91, '92, and '93 were good years for him IIRC. I don't remember what happened in '94 if he got hurt or what, but he only pitched in a hadfull of games and left during ST in '95. Always a good guy in the eyes of the sport. Sad to hear about his family troubles. -
My bad, his first appearance was in 2000. No CBA violation.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) It was for 1 year, or year 1? Didn't hear Garland say anything about it.. the dopes on AM100 are reporting year 1 NT clause, but as I said, the CBA prevents that... unless like Mike said something else was worked out.. but that makes no sense.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Might be a gentlemans agreement in that case. Who knows. Per the CBA it's not allowed.. I don't ever recall a handshake deal trumping the CBA..
-
I think they pulled a fast one on Jon.. He wont have 5 years of service until the end of '06.. per the CBA, no no-trade clauses, no free agency. The team owns your rights 100%. I bet the NT is for year 2 and they are reporting it wrong.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Guessed I missed it, O well. I doubt you missed it. I don't think he said it, but they are confirming it.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Dec 28, 2005 -> 01:15 PM) dmbjeff How much is it at St. Charles Bowl?? CC, we bowl there in a league and get a discount. If you really want it I'll let you know when we're there and you can meet us and buy it with our discount if you want.

I have the plain Sox one - with Comiskey Park on it - and it's a straight ball so picking up the 7 or 10 is easy of you can throw without a hook. I've had mine for 3 years now.
