QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) My heart goes out to those poor guys for having to pay for their own tickets. I just hope they were able to gather up enough pennies to afford them... I was cutting off the "why didn't they sell the fans the free tickets the players get" complaint. I should have known better... :rolly

Probably don't offer life insurance... Looking for work? Consider Al Qaeda... DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda has put job advertisements on the Internet asking for supporters to help put together its Web statements and video montages, an Arabic newspaper reported. The London-based Asharq al-Awsat said on its Web site this week that al Qaeda had "vacant positions" for video production and editing statements, footage and international media coverage about militants in Iraq, the Palestinian territories, Chechnya and other conflict zones where militants are active. The paper said the Global Islamic Media Front, an al Qaeda-linked Web-based organization, would "follow up with members interested in joining and contact them via email." The paper did not say how applicants should contact the Global Islamic Media Front. Al Qaeda supporters widely use the Internet to spread the group's statements through dozens of Islamist sites where anyone can post messages. Al Qaeda-linked groups also set up their own sites, which frequently have to move after being shut by Internet service providers. The advertisements, however, could not be found on mainstream Islamist Web sites where al Qaeda and other affiliate groups post their statements. Asharq al-Awsat said the advert did not specify salary amounts, but added: "Every Muslim knows his life is not his, since it belongs to this violated Islamic nation whose blood is being spilled. Nothing should take precedence over this." The Front this week issued the second broadcast of a weekly Web news program called Voice of the Caliphate, which it says aims to combat anti-Qaeda "lies and propaganda" on major global and Arab television channels such as CNN and Al Jazeera. Last month it issued an English-language video on the Internet called Jihad Hidden Camera which showed sniping and bombing attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq, and carried comical sound effects as well as laugh tracks. Al Qaeda and other groups have increasingly turned to the Internet to win young Muslims over to their war against Western-backed governments in Arab and Muslim countries. Islamist insurgents fighting U.S. forces and the U.S.-backed government in Iraq have often posted slick montages of their military activities, including beheadings of hostages, on the Internet.

London to Get Sexual 'Theme Park' LONDON - Move over, Eros. Developers announced plans Friday to open a multimillion dollar sexual "theme park" near London's Piccadilly Circus, home to the much-photographed statue of the Greek god of love. Backers say the London Academy of Sex and Relationships, due to open next spring, will not be a sleazy sex museum, but an educational multimedia attraction that will teach visitors to become better lovers and provide valuable information about disease and sexual problems. Located within the Trocadero entertainment center — just around the corner from Soho, London's red-light district — the $8.3 million project will feature unspecified "high tech and interactive exhibits." Alex Rayner, a spokesman for the project, said it was "committed to avoiding the sleazy image that the sex industry usually conjures." "Titillation is not the goal," he said. "It's meant to be educational. It's meant to be informative." The privately funded project has support from sexual health organizations including the Sexual Dysfunction Association and AIDS charity The Terrence Higgins Trust. "It is long overdue that the U.K. faces up to its responsibilities in the sexual arena — we cannot simply avoid mankind's leading preoccupation and the issues that go with it," said the academy's director of exhibits, Dr. Sarah Brewer. "The academy is the perfect vehicle by which to address these important matters in an exciting, amusing and yet educational way." Several cities around the world — including New York, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Paris — are home to erotic museums. Typically, they exhibit everything from pornography to high-minded paintings exploring local sexual attitudes and culture.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) a little rain can only help the whitesox today. it will take the crowd out of the game and could get us to the shabby piece of jackcheese bosox bullpen. the only thing hitting the monster harder than us today should be the rain... Apparently you missed our trip out there in August where the damn Boston fans sat in the rain and went on to cheer them to a win both Friday and Saturday and waited out the delay and cancellation on Sunday...? Those fans don't leave.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) what did you decide to do on that? After much deliberation.... and Jim's begging for a new driver :rolly , they are still in my possession and promised to a friend and my dad. My dad said "sell the damn thing..." but he missed the '00 playoff games so I want to be sure I get him to these.

QUOTE(JimH @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) Exactly. Quick was telling me a story, before Monday's game some guy offered him $500 each for his two tickets in the Club Level. So yeah, absolutely, season tix holders are selling their tix to brokers. Two Boston fans offered us $700 EACH for our seats for Sunday's game.. a game that might not even be played...
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) Curious ... Do you have the numbers of people who: - Are White Sox fans - Were able to buy tickets yesterday - And then turned around and sold them to a broker? You're assuming all those tickets in broker inventory were bought first hand by brokers. I know a lot, and a lot more ST holders that did it.

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Actually, split season ticket holders were not able to buy extra tickets. We were only allowed as many tickets as seats we owned all in the lower box but not as close as our regular tickets. I have split weekend tickets and I got: 2 tickets for each game of the ALDS 2 tickets for Game 2 of the ALCS 2 tickets for Game 2 of the WS My original message to Brooks back about 3 weeks ago was why weren't split season ticket holders offered extra tickets. Also, my parents neighbor has a smaller package where he has 2 tickets for 13 games (the ozzie package I believe). He was offered 4 tickets to Game 2 of the ALDS only and they were in Upper Deck. OK.. there are 8K full season ticket holders (just under actually, IIRC). We were offered our 4 seats plus 4 extras for every game. We bought them all. So if all 8K of us did that, that's 16K right there.
-
QUOTE(quade36 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) Wait, put this in perspective, close to 40,000 sold for 4 games???? Thats 10,000 a game. You figure 10,000 for season ticket holders. What happened to the other 20,000 per game?????? Try closer to 20K for season ticket holders, maybe even a bit more. We were all able to buy extras per seat owned. With a ST base right around 15K I think it's safe to say at least half bought their extras. Approx 5 to 7K to MLB and 3K to the Sox (office folks and players - who by they way had to PAY for their tickets... )

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) I think the real reason I get pissed is all of the bandwagon jumpers who don't know Juan Uribe from Pablo Ozuna will be at the game while guys like myself, who can recite the Bristol pitching rotation in my sleep, will be stuck at home watching Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.... Get my drift. What's in Bristol...?? Juuusssttttt kidding. Boz.. come up here anyway.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) Was going to tell you a funny story. Was out last night, got introduced to a few people. One had a Cubs hat on. Guy with me asked if he was a Cub fan. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Oct 6, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) Brooks does have something to do with this. He is part of the group of people that say when the tickets go onsale and how you can buy the tickets. One of the things I wanted from day one was for us to be able to buy tickets at the box office. So yes Brooks does have A LOT to do with this. :banghead
