  1. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 09:09 AM) But then it seemed fine in April, which might be the worst thing that happened. Maybe something could have been done if they sucked from the start, but when we played the Yankees and Cubs in May, it was written off as a poor stretch. And then that stretch continued until...now. Back to 2005, Shingo sucked right from the start, so Hermy was brought in early enough that the team didn't miss a beat. But even still, what could KW have done in April? Nobody was available anyways...I guess it was just doomed to end up as a failed experiment. Lesson learned. I believe the phrase he used was "force to be reckoned with." I agree at that point there was not much that could be done. And even if there was, Kenny wasn't doing it. He asked me "why are you always breaking my balls..." I replied "because I don't have balls I can't be concerned and ask questions..?" I got a half hearted "atta girl" look and big smile.
  2. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:42 AM) I kind of was speaking for myself, but obviously there are two sides to every issue. I'm obviously not speaking for everyone, but I think I was kind of speaking for KW, too, but only in the lightest sense. Oh, he definitely thought it would be fine and blew the comments & questions off every time they were brought up at Soxfest and in Arizona.
  3. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:27 AM) The idea of an all-flamethrowers pen sounded like a good idea, and looked OK in April. Nobody likes facing guys who come into the 6th inning throwing pitches at 96 mph. Like I said before, our hitters looked uncomfortable when Andy Sisco pitched against us, but they'd knock him around a bit. The first time I saw Sisco was early on in 2005...he was a 6-10 lefty throwing 93 with a low ERA at the time. the hitters looked bad but fared well, and if you look at his 2005 game log, he blew three saves in his first four appearances against the Sox and the Royals lost all four games. but he also struck out six Sox batters in those three innings. Really?? I hated it from the start, and even moreso when I saw it in March. I just had a bad feeling. A "gut feeling"
  4. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) I remember making a comment like this before the season started when everyone was so excited about having a pen full of flamethrowers. My comment was brushed off by most. In defense, no one had seen much from them and never would have guessed the s*** would have hit the fan so hard, much less ripped it from the ceiling. I didn't reallize how bad things really were until I saw it for myself in March.
  5. LOL.. Jones attny is questioning why Vick is being supported when' he's been indicted - which Jones has not been - and calling for his suspension. Hopefully Vick is out of a job by lunchtime.
  6. Quicky heard Vick may be gtting hit with an additional indictment.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) That is correct, and I doubt her source is redzone. This deal is such a bad kept secret right now it's crazy. It sounds like somebody from southwest Ohio was glad to let this leak in the hopes from the Reds point of view somebody would panic and call with a better offer last second. And I doubt the hot infield prospect is Braun, he's beyond a prospect at this point. It was leaked late Tuesday night. I was surprised it took so long to come out.
  8. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Here's what I found on Redzone (Reds message board). Lol, I hope that is not Steff's source. Dunn to Brewers No idea that place even existed. But no it's not where I heard it from.
  9. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) 753 I want to go to Milwaukee for the weekend, but I figure he will only play in 2, maybe even 1 game, depending on if he hits 754. There is SRO left for the game though. We just scored tickets for the weekend. Hopefully he hits 2 tomorrow so we don't have to drive back and forth. BTW briguy, did you have a good time at the race?
  10. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) I think Albert regrets going to Baltimore instead of sticking with Chicago. From a financial standpoint, no. From a playing standpoint - aside from the coaching staff in Baltimore, yes.
  11. Rumor has it that the Brewers are this/close to getting Dunn.
  12. Oh I hope he hits another one...
  13. QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) Hmmm.. I did that once already. Lemme see if it needs to be done again. That did it. Thanks danman.
  14. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) It seems fine to me. I did have to adjust daylight savings time though. Hmmm.. I did that once already. Lemme see if it needs to be done again.
  15. 2HR's and 6 rbi's today. The Giants are headed to Milwaukee for 3 next. I wonder if Bud is booking a flight out of town..
  16. Clock is still messed up
  17. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:08 PM) MLB hasn't made out its plans yet, so I would not worry about what your friend's PS2 says. IIRC they run the program in November, submit it to the teams for review in Dec, tweak and seal it in February. Also, MLB doesn't do it. They outsource it.
  18. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Wow, that's an impressive rate. With such a successful conviction rate, I'm curious to learn the details of how the 1% beat their cases. Can't find any case law to support that 1%. I'd love to know also. Plea deals (als Martha Stewart) count as convictions as far as I can tell.
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) From what I read about that, the man who was "admonished"(read: got his ass beat) is the anonymous participating witness. I bet its the same guy who was blurred out in the ESPN Outside the Lines story a few months ago According to the court docs there are 19 witnesses "known" to the grand jury.
  20. QUOTE(crazyozzie02 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) at first when i saw this i thought it was a joke. but now that i see that hes serious im laughing even harder. i dont see any way tha JR is going to sell the sox espically to him It is a joke. Not that it matters of he was serious. The group that owns the Sox now will own them for a long time to come. Long after Jerry, who is not the "owner" is gone.
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) they appear to have enough cooperative witnesses to make this an open and shut case. Vick was seen not only giving over money to the victors, but also was present during executions and fights. There's even a comment in the docs about a fellow "kennel" owner getting yelled at for calling out Vick's name during a fight. I just really hope that going after Vick doesn't consume this and that the rest of the assholes get theirs as well. Seems to be a lot of folks involved over 8 states. I never would have guessed this was so big.
  22. QUOTE(shoota @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Msnbc.com reports Vick and 3 others will be in court July 26, which is the first day of Falcons training camp. A Sports Illustrated journalist said today on the Jim Rome radio show that Federal indictments have about a 95% conviction rate. Even better.... "Between 2000 and 2005, 99 percent of the 435,000 federal criminal defendants prosecuted nationwide were convicted" http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburgh...n/s_464095.html
  23. http://media.hamptonroads.com/media/conten...indictment2.pdf The court docs. Very disturbing.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 02:09 PM) Acording to the article I linked, he wasn't there when that happened, but instead was the one who told someone over the phone to do those things. Which to me, is maybe worse. I think the details are all mixed togther. There are sites reporting he wasn't there, then others reporting he was there for the deaths of 8 dogs in April - one of which was electrocuted. Very sick regardless. This is being reported on CNN: "The indictment also alleges that Vick and his associates "rolled" some of their dogs -- testing them in short fights to determine how well they might fight. Dogs that failed the test were killed, prosecutors said. While most of the dog killings noted in the indictment were allegedly carried out by the other defendants, Vick himself participated in the killings of eight dogs in April, according to the indictment. The animals were killed "by various methods, including hanging, drowning and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground," the indictment said.
  25. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 18, 2007 -> 11:35 AM) Steff, I don't understand why he drugged the boy, but it raises interesting questions. There have been theories that Benoit killed his wife in a domestic dispute, regretted it, wondered what do I do now? and then decided it'd be for the best if he killed his son so his son wouldn't have to live without his parents. I've never liked the Mercy(in-his-eyes) Killing theory, but if he drugged the boy with Xanax, it might make more sense. (My personal theory has been: Domestic dispute, didn't necessarily mean to kill Nancy, lots of drugs and concussion = a man who has lost it, and then he kills his son and himself for reasons I don't know, whether they were to avoid responsibility, "save them" or just because he wanted to die and his son to die. But I've never really bought the "OMG MONSTER PLANNED TO KILL EVERYONE WHAT A BAD MAN!" theory. It's not that simple. This wasn't a case of a man just saying, "f*** it, I'm going to kill them. I hate them." And considering the history of violence between Nancy and others -- not just Benoit abusing her, but her abusing lovers, ie Kevin Sullivan -- I really believe the case starts to clear up a bit more. Domestic dispute. And Benoit loses it. Anything else is implausible, IMO, and him pre-plannign doesn't fit. Who knows? His drug report's interesting. I really do wonder if he was dealing drugs/steroids, though. You raise some very plausable situations. If he ws getting as much as reported from tha doc then that's a very logical possibility.
