  1. His presence, yes. A new manager.. a "fun" manager, yes, would be somewhat of a draw of interest I agree. But a manager that feels it's his duty to report on the way the media covers the team...? I just don't see that as an assett to the organization. If anything - since the Cubs are more reported on here (and everywhere ) it gives the media MORE fuel to add to the fire something along the lines of "Poor Ozzie.. complaining about all the attention we give the Cubs..." thus giving the media another opportunity to talk about them (the Cubs), and makes Ozzie - and by association us as fans - look like whiners. It's a double edged sword.
  2. But by the manager..??? And yes they are. They are disgusting. I just don't agree that it's Ozzie job to call them out.
  3. If Ozzie was hired to take on some of Gallas' job duties in beinging interest in this club... then we're screwed. Bringing interest by whining is not a good idea, IMO, of course..
  4. Flash, I agree with you.. but I just don't think it's necessary to whine like a baby in the media about the media. Do what you were hired for. Manage. Win games. Do that and the rest will fall into place. The last thing Ozzie needs is to prove everyone who called him a whiney bigmouth right...
  5. Mike.. please post the article. Firewall wont let me read it... Thanks.
  6. And it makes him look like a whiney little baby. Worry about the problems with your team and not about how many stories are in the paper about you. Attention starved media monger... some things never change.
  7. "The media doesn't pay attention to us... " Bla, bla, bla... :headshake I'm glad I'm not the kind of fan that depends on the media so much, and the kind that pays attention to - and cares about - what goes on between the lines. Half the time I don't even open the newspaper to the sports section.
  8. Well that was awfully nice of him to say...
  9. I think he was bashing Ozzie because of Ozzie's big mouth. If the shoe fits..

    Bowling....

    Tonight's my last night..
  11. My great gramps, grampa, and my dad used to take me to every home game. I was at more games the first 5 years of my life than a lot of folks I know in their 30's now.. They used to take me in there. I remember playing with a brother and sister that lived about 4 houses down from Jimbo's on the west (I think...) side of the street. I believe the brothers name was Mike. He was a year or 2 older than me. They used to have a plastic pool in their front yard and a slip & slide along the side of the house. Good times...
  12. Since I don't work for them .. I have no idea. Just from the agreement that I have and the 4 suggestions that were submitted for this phase (which were all approved) were major. I don't think another structural change is in the immediate future.
  13. I don't think the ISA is sold on the seat change yet. But that decision has to be made fairly quickly so who knows. IMO, a waste of $$. Regardless.. it's not the Sox that make the decision. They submit requests and the ISA makes the call.
  14. We probably knew eachother as kids..
  15. On the application it claims "with the proceeds going to charity". Granted it's not crystal clear, but if only 10% is going to charity that is terribly misleading...
  16. 1903 — The New York Highlanders won their first major-league game with a 7-2 decision over the Washington Senators. 1913 — New York's Christy Mathewson beats the Phillies 3-1, throwing just 67 pitches. 1939 — Rookie Ted Williams went 4-for-5, including his first major-league home run, but the Red Sox lost to Philadelphia 12-8 at Fenway Park. 1946 — Ed Head of the Brooklyn Dodgers no-hit the Boston Braves 5-0 at Ebbetts Field. 1952 — Bob Feller of the Cleveland Indians (news) and Bob Cain of the St. Louis Browns matched one-hitters but Cain was able to pull out the victory 1-0. 1952 — Hoyt Wilhelm of the Giants won his first major-league game (in relief), but more dramatically, hit a home run at the Polo Grounds in his first major-league at-bat. Although he pitched in 1,070 games in the majors, he never hit another homer. 1954 — Hank Aaron hit the first home run of his major-league career. The blow was off Vic Rashi in the Milwaukee Braves' 7-5 victory over St. Louis. 1962 — After an 0-9 start, the New York Mets (news) won their first game beating the Pittsburgh Pirates (news) 9-1 behind Jay Hook. 1964 — Ken Johnson of the Houston Colt .45s became the first pitcher to lose a nine-inning no-hitter when Pete Rose scored an unearned run to give the Cincinnati Reds (news) a 1-0 victory. 1989 — Nolan Ryan came within two outs of his sixth career no-hitter, losing it when Nelson Liriano tripled in the ninth inning as the Texas Rangers (news) beat the Toronto Blue Jays (news) 4-1. Ryan finished with his 10th lifetime one-hitter. 1999 — Fernando Tatis hit two grand slams in one inning to lead the St. Louis Cardinals (news) to a 12-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers (news). Tatis became the first in major league history to hit two grand slams in one inning and set the record with eight RBIs in one inning. 2000 — New York Yankees (news) outfielder Bernie Williams and catcher Jorge Posada each homered from both sides of the plate as the Yankees beat Toronto 10-7. It is the first time that feat has been accomplished by two players on the same team in the same game.
  17. Actually it's the wives idea from what I understand. Pretty cool one, IMO. And tax deductable.
  18. Ribbie.. you'll have to let us know when/where their playing. We can get a tailgate of brats and kool-aid going.
  19. Family tradition mostly. I didn't know any better till I was about 5 I suppose. The clincher was growing up with the Fisk's.
  20. No idea how true it is but co-workers said they just went on TM and couldn't get 4 LD's together.. They should be releasing extras about 5ish so if there's any not used by the teams those will become avaliable also. Sounds like a good crowd tonight though. Wouldn't be surprised to see over 30K.
  21. That's what I was going to say.. but without the green. There is MORE crime in the Wirgley area yet the property is 3 times what this is going for. Besides.. there will be an association so I doubt there will be an issue. I think this would be a great investment and I think I'm going to look into it more. Jason.. since you're in the field.. your thoughts?
  22. Oh.. it will. The bandwagoneers will be out in full force.
  23. I don't think the property is going to be that expensive.. $150K down = $750K value. The rates are still so great and thanks to that PMI is affordable so putting down less than 20% is not all that crazy. And not only that.. these days taking out a second for the 20% downstroke is very common.. paying the 2, then refinancing in a year. Most of the 2nd are interest only so you get most of that back on your taxes. Sweet investment... And.. would sure solve that "long drive home to plainfield" problem 40 nights of the season..
