  1. QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) I'm calling bs on that. I need to see some stats (from a reputable journal) linking porn and teen pregnancy, STDs, and age of first sexual encounter. I don't buy that argument AT ALL and I would like to see some scientific support for your claim. I don't know if it does or doesn't either but I would love to see the stats as well. When Oprah has 8 year olds on who are giving BJ's on the bus ride home... I'd like to know where they are learning this stuff.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) I wasn't assuming, I was pointing out that nowhere did it say the Yankees are obligated to offer the exact same compensation package to the third team that they received from the Rangers. A big waste of time, and of no relevance, since the Rangers compensation to Alex has nothing to do with a deal the Yanks may or may not try to make to move him. This was posted several times in response to SS'er asking about it. Yes, apparently some things can't be explained. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) I wonder then why Alex's full contract was added to the Yankee payroll. If the Yankees never receive any of the compensation, and it is paid directly by the Rangers to Alex, as this link proves, wouldn't it be part of their payroll? Not one link I have found states that payment is made directly to Alex by the Rangers.
  3. Yikes... Forget I said anything.. Bubye..
  4. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) So, then you'd support requiring minors to have permission slips before being able to purchase trans-fatty foods or being able to only purchase them with a parent present? Because, clearly they aren't able to determine what's in their best interest.... And it is all about the children, right? Why not just stop McDonalds, etc.. from selling foods with tans-fats in them?
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) The reports that say the Rangers will pay the Yankees are all wrong. thebatt.com is the only one to get the story correct. Thanks for finding that quote and being big enough to quote something that contradicted all your previous links that showed the Yankees getting paid. I must say I am surprised. I post the facts as I research them and not bulls*** I think may or may not happen, be true, or make no sense whatsoever but am too bullheaded to back off without a shred of evidence. Don't be surprised. I'm every bit about being sure to provide as accurate information as I can find. You should try it sometime. Ya know.. rather than just ASSuming. And FTR, in none of the articles, including the one I linked above, does it specify that the Rangers are cutting a check to Alex or that they are paying the Yanks who are then passing the funds on. As I stated earlier I have no idea how the compensation payment structure works.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Hell, I'm not going to give you or Gage any credit. I was going to jump into the whole argument but I just decided to stay out of it. I'm almost positive you guys are correct, I just can't find anything to back it up at the moment. Ta-friggin-da!!!! http://www.thebatt.com/media/storage/paper...www.thebatt.com Texas will pay $67 million of the $179 million left on Rodriguez's $252 million, 10-year contract, the most cash included in a trade in major league history. The Rangers get All-Star second baseman Alfonso Soriano and a player to be named - but they also will pay Rodriguez through 2025. All the deferred money owed by Texas - $36 million, including salaries from 2001-03 - will be converted to an assignment bonus, which makes the money guaranteed against a strike or lockout. The payout schedule will be pushed back to 2016-25 from 2011-20.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) I haven't been able to find a link but I'm 95 percent sure that what Jackie said is correct. Yes.. what Jackie said.. :rolleyes

    Bye Bye Taurus

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) I swear, older Taurus's are the biggest rust buckets on the road. I've owned 3 Escorts, a Probe, and a Windstar, and the last auto company I will ever support again is Ford. My first car was an Escort and I drove that thing to almost 100K miles, sold it to a neighbor's kid and they drove it back and forthe to college every weekend for 3 years. It was nasty looking and the doors were about to fall off but the damn thing kept running...
  11. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) How it gets there is the entire debate here. You've said the Rangers pay the team Alex is playing for. So would there be new negotiations between the Rangers and that new team, or would the new team have to accept the terms that the Yankees and Rangers agreed to? For the 18th or 19th time.. the deal is made - between the players union and MLB by the way, the Yanks and Rangers had no choice but to agree or else the deal would not be approved by Selig. Some how, some way the Rangers will pay ARod a total of $67 million. There is no debate.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) What is so funny is my argument states the Rangers would still owe the Yankees, your argument would be that since he is no longer playing for the Yankees the Rangers wouldn't have to pay if he isn't playing. I don't understand why you keep trying to say I am saying things that I have not at all said.. But no, my argument says nothing like that. My argument from the start is that Alex gets paid $67 million from the Rangers. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) MLB rules make any large sum of money to be tied specifically to a player and that sum will follow a player. Otherwise certain teams (or owners) could completely profitize the business and just sell off players for cash and make tons of profits and just pocket them while the team goes to hell. /thread
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) Here is the practical difference. In your view, whatever team takes ARod, has to accept the compensation that the Yankees and Rangers agreed on. Whatever term and conditions, deferrals, etc. would be required to stay the same. The Yankees and whomever they are negotiating with could not accept anything different. In my view, the Yankees continue to receive the compensation that they agreed on with the Rangers and can negotiate the terms and amounts of any cash included with the next team. The Rangers are writing the same check, yet for some reason, in your view, they insisted as part of the negotiations, that they only pay the team Alex is playing for. I can't see a single reason why. I can't imagine the Yankees insisting on it. Clean your glasses because your view is obstructed. I said nothing about another team having to accept anything, stated the opposite several times actually. I said the money follows Alex. Regardless of how it gets there, it follows him.
  14. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Yeah. I'll be there for the 10:30 show K. I'll find you guys.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) I just want to point out MLB is in the business of giving guaranteed contracts. Arod could not play another game because of injury yet he'd still get paid. Wha...??? No refund...???? Sorry. Couldn't resist.
  16. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:40 AM) YES! I love threads devoted to executions because there's always several guaranteed actions: -Nuke cheering the execution of a man on death row for a horrendous crime. -Several posters criticizing Nuke for cheering the execution. -LCR posting a response which is half green, mostly criticizing Nuke and others for blood-lust while ignoring the absence of a deterrent effect. Maybe Nuke's cheerleading is morbid to some, but this guy... if there was a poster boy for the DP, this one is for sure it.
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) If Alex suffers a career ender, retires early, or similar, are the Rangers off the hook? According to your example of him not playing for the Yankees they would be. If the Yankees can negoatiate less cash in the next deal, will the Rangers get a refund? The deal sends cash to the Yankees. I don't know the details of his contract, but I do know that Belle's was guaranteed and when he was forced to retire insurance paid part, and the Orioles paid part. No refund. He was paid in full. I would guess that ARod's contract is guaranteed as well. If it's not, then Boras is an idiot. Yes, the deal sends cash to the Yankees. To pay the portion of ARod's contract they agreed to pay. You keep saying it yet you are not comprehending it... "... ouch... ouch.. ouch... ouch....."
  18. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:32 AM) Can't wait for the Baba Booey Roast and I'm going to see Sal and Richard this weekend Killa.. you guys are going Saturday, right? There's a gathering after the 10:30 show with Levy & Co.
  19. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) Steff, keep trying. You too. As I said, I'm sticking with the facts. But here's something for you to carry your theories in.. Bag
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Steff, Why would the Rangers and Yankees agree to a deal where if ARod is traded, the exact amount that is remaining, has to go to the third team? It doesn't benefit anyone in the negotiations. The Rangers don't care anymore, they agreed to pay the money. The Yankees don't want to be restricted in any future deal ARod just wants to be paid. The Yankees and Rangers don't have anything more to agree on. Why do you keep saying they do? The deal for the $67 million was done. There is approx $22 million of that $67 million left to go. If ARod moves, the $22 million goes with him. Why on earth would the Rangers CONTINUE to pay the Yankees money that they agreed to compensate Alex for..? Yes, Alex will get paid regardless. And a TOTAL of $67 million of his pay will come from the Texas Rangers. It doesn't restrict the Yankees. It has nothing to do with the Yankees. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:18 AM) It makes sense that they honor the trade. It makes sense that the Rangers continue to pay the Yankees funds to compensate a contract for a player that no longer plays there. I wouldn't be laughing about making that claim if you are indeed serious.
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 25, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) You've been saying they will pay whomever Alex is playing for. I've been saying the Rangers will pay the team they made the trade with, the Yankees. Ahh yes. That makes total sense. The Rangers will continue to pay the Yankees regardless of where Alex is playing. :wall
  22. The BH had some funny moments. A Dana/Artie duet, Dice as a cop, and Gilbert played Mr X. IMO, you had to be familiar with some inside show stuff to get it. Did you listen to Riley last night, and if so how was he?
