http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.php?Stor...12-111730-4108r U.S. population to hit 300M on Tuesday WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- The population of the United States will hit the 300-million mark at about 7:46 a.m. EDT Tuesday, the U.S. Census Bureau said. The milestone has been watched for some time but Thursday the bureau established when it will be achieved. The Census Bureau reached the 300-million figure by calculating there is one birth in the country every 7 seconds, 1 death every 13 seconds and 1 addition to the United States through immigration every 31 seconds. That means the U.S. population increases by 1 person every 11 seconds. The U.S. population hit 100 million in 1915 and 200 million in 1967. The country's first census -- in 1790 -- set the number of residents at 3,929,214.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) I'm not taking a shot at Frank Thomas fans (like myself.) I'm taking a shot at the clueless Thoms haters and their "He isn't clutch" or "can't hit LHP" excuses (how did Frank look against all of those RHP's?) You are not part of that group. I misunderstood also. Sorry bout that.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) It is also interesting that seemingly if they make a change to the stadium that increases profits, they can't use those profits to help the team on the field. Seems like a bad deal for the fans. Hu...? United pays the Sox to call the scout seats "the United Scout Seats" and that money goes to the SA, but the revenue from the sale of the seat goes to the Sox to do just what they did in '06... increase payroll. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) The profits from the ticket sales goes to the team and to payroll... Any money made from a sponsorship of the area would go to the Stadium Authority, unless they and the Sox have have a secondary agreement worked out for these specific kinds of moneys. Don't forget, the more fans the Sox bring in, the more money the SA makes because their revenues are also based on a part of attendance. That is why they are willing to make those investments in things such as the stadium remodel. Its a win-win for both sides. I think people forget that the Sox don't own the stadium and that they don't control the funds that are used to make stadium improvments.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) What about the gross $4.5M in additional ticket revenue generated by this? The '05 ticket revenue went to the '06 payroll so it would be a good guess this would as well?
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) Source? You're kidding right? Or were you not a member of the site when US Cell and the Sox announced the sponsorship and where the money would be going. I'm not even going to comment on the common sense angle...

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) Brewers do it. Not sure who else, but I think there are others. When do they let the ST holders do it?
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:53 AM) I'd pay to take BP on the field. Some teams do that as a benny for season ticket holders. Ive never heard that. Would be fun.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) wrong, im sure someone is going to sponsor that area. Fix up the stadium money has nothing to do with fix the team money.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) this should bring us some more on field talent....whats next a ride going up and down the foul pole...go sox pr go. Fix up the stadium money has nothing to do with fix the team on the field money.

Daley "cameras on almost every block by 2016
Steff replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Filibuster
I'm fine with it. If I'm innocently walking in a public place and become a victim of some asshole, I want there to be evidene of what happened to me. Small price to pay. Just think of the things that may not have happened or the adults and children that would be alive today if this was already in use. -
It's snowing, a lot, in Lombard.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) I didn't know that you couldn't like both. I'll always like Frank; he'll always be my favorite player. However, I don't know why being in that club makes me a Thome hater!!!1!1!1!1! Good grief.. If being a Sox fan meant that you couldn't like and root for former players I've not been a very good fan all my life.
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Hey Thome haters! How about your hero choking with the bases loaded and two outs in the 9th? I'm sure Thome is enjoying his morning tee times..

QUOTE(ptatc @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 05:59 PM) She's fine thanks for asking. She was down the block walking to her hotel. She heard the noise of the plane and watched it hit. She was pretty shook up as she had many co-workers die on 9/11. She quickly realized it was a small plane and said that there was a very quick response by EMS and law enforcement. She said it was a surreal experience and is still a little shaken. Thank God for that. And also for the others who lost their lives today.
-
QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 05:41 PM) No, Torre said he owned the plane. It was the passport found on the ground at the crash scene that leaked he was in the plane. Scumbag media. for his wife and family.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) for the family. My wife is in NY and watched it happen. She said the plane definitely looked like it was having problems prior to the hit. Wow. Is your wife ok? I imagine seeing that left her pretty shook up.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Apparently Lidle's family might not be aware of his death yet. If that is true, whomever comfirmed he was the pilot is a total asshole. Would that be Joe Torre?
-
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) I wouldn't believe any of that yet. The 4 dead seems to be right, but different outlets seem to be reporting different amounts on board. Alone is what witnesses who saw his body still strapped in the seat are claiming. Good source, but what a horrific thing to see.. ETA - Yahoo and AP say 2 bodies were seen, CNN and MSNBC say 1.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:21 PM) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...38596%26fvi%3D1 It was at $11 dollars a few hours ago.... I'm impressed the seller didn't add "dead Yankee pitcher" to the auction title.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) He mentioned Lidle's drinking in a television interview but it's not in the quote from the original New York Post article. Gotcha. Will the 2 threads be merging?
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) I just replaced it with the actual Rhodes quote. Thanks. ETA... I'm missing the reference to drinking and flying... or "flight history" as you labeled it up there?
