  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Yes, they have identifying characteristics to that type of cartridge. Not to the gun. Think about it. A small metal pellet, which is round, could be scarred in an infinitely variable set of ways, none of which are particular to the barrel of any one gun. Now, I suppose if they shotgun was loaded with slugs, then you could do identify scoring marks from a specific barrel. Matching shotguns to any sort of evidence they leave, as a rule, is problematic. As I specified in the post you responded to, I was referrering specifically to the guage of the pellets and not identifying marks on the pellets, of which most don't even touch the inside of the barrel so whatever is on them is usually only what they've hit. I've already commented on the matching of shells - the pellet housing - via test firing in a previous post. One has nothing to do with the other and I certainly wasn't implying that they did.
  2. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) My understanding of shotgun shot is that you cannot tell anything from damage to the shot. The shot is just a bunch of little metal beads, so you cannot get a pattern on them. And in this case, I didn't get the knowledge from TV. Tests on shotguns show blast pattern and spread, and some other factors. But the shot isn't usable for identification to a specific gun (unless things have changed a lot in the last 10 years). I don't get info from TV either. The pellets in shotgun shells of varying guage have identifying characteristics. I've been shooting shotguns for many years (hunting and in turkey shoot competitions) and this is common knowledge.
  3. A shotgun shot does leave barrel marks on whatever is expelled from it, and a firing test would confirm if the gun he turned in was used in the shooting. Being in a car means little because shells from any fired weapon can be projected anywhere. Unless they picked them up, they can be anywhere. As well, guage can be determined from the pellets. GSR washes off with one soap and water washing. Jackie, the same tests they run on handguns are used for shotguns.
  4. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Been through this once or twice, huh, Steff? Heaven's no. Not me personally. I might break a nail....
  5. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) Dumb question -- What kind of a "match" can one do on a shotgun? Meaning it won't even be the right type of gun for these pellets? Or will a test show that it hasn't even been fired? The first, and easiest, thing they will do is a ballistics comparison. Take the shells, casings, or bullets at the scene, compare them to a test shot of Juan's gun. If they match, he's got some explaining to do. If they don't, then he's clear. The guage is determined by the shot used. They would know that upon visual inspection of the spent shells at the crime scene. If the gun was cleaned, it will show it wasn't fired. Since he might be anal and clean his gun everyday, a result of that test wouldn't mean much.

    Fear of Flying

I love flying, especially the take off. I'm amazed at how it all works. After that I am so bored I fall asleep. The worst part IMO is the ear popping. That I absolutely hate.
  7. Who has this much time to kill...? . Funny tho.
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) That difference is exactly what I was referring to. Its an important distinction that was being glossed over. It does appear he was being specific to this female and this situation, no?
  9. Females who do drugs while carrying a child they are about to give up for adoption should be beat to within an inch of their lives. The good news.. they do go to jail for it.

  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 07:14 AM) 300,000,000 yeah! It hit at 7:46 am eastern time. Wow.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) A-Rod would bat 3rd here. Anyways, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but at SI.com it was said that Alex wouldn't waive his no trade to come here because of Ozzie. Who knows if that's true but it's interesting with out a doubt. It was said earlier as well. Something about hell freezing over..
  14. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 12:06 AM) Wow that was some game first MNF game I have ever been to was most likely the strangest game I have seen. Lienart threw for 250 and two scores the defense gets 6 turnovers only allows 3 points loses the game 24-23. The Atmosphere was tremendous until the last 48 seconds and Denny Green's chances of holding his job are most likely gone. It will interesting to hear the sport talk shows tomorrow morning. Bears are now 6-0! Green was hysterical on the post game interview. Though I can't blame him for blowing his stack. They gave that one away. The Bears looked lifeless for 45 minutes and should have lost that game no question at that point. Glad to have them at 6-0 though. And glad you had a good time. We went to MNF in Miami a few years ago when the Fins handed the Bears their asses in a terrential downpour and that was no fun.
  15. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 10:58 PM) That's a good hire for the Cubs. Seriously. Interesting take, but I think that Lou is going to have a lot more control, and franky he's way smarter then Busty. Oh I agree he's totally way smarter and more focused that Dusty and demands more any day of the week even if he was lying in a coma. Hopefully they (the Cubs bill payers) realize this and grow a pair tough enough to let him do what they are hiring him for. It's not about his intelligence. It's about the peanut gallery allowing him to perform to his potential.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) This is a fantastic move for the Cubs. A very good mgr that I'm sure wants to win real real bad after that disaster in Tampa. Plus he's had a year away which is often a good thing when it comes to mgr's like Pinella (who have that extra fire). The problem is that it is long rumored that the Cubs are run from a higer office than the manager. Lou wont stand for this. And if it's true, he'll quit before spring training is over.
  17. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) Has Lou said he was offended by the comments? Nope.

    The Office

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Jim transferred to Stamford. At the last minute Pam got cold feet and called off the wedding. Roy went on a bender (took it poorly) and hit rock bottom when he got a DUI. Roy is trying to "win Pam back" and he realized he took her for granted, but wants to get back on track with Pam. Meanwhile, Pam started dating again (with notice from Toby from HR, who almost asked her out). Jim also knows that Pam is single (and dating). I can't say you missed much by not seeing the first two epis. Whew.. NBC really built it up for nothing then. Tankya!

    The Office

I missed the first 2 shows this season so I have no clue what happened with Pam, Roy, and Jim. Obviously Jim got transferred, but if someone would be so kind, can I get a quick recap - or a link to one? I also missed the last few minutes Thursday night. The funeral thing was irritating to me.
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 06:11 AM) I believe his family originated from Spain. Lou is American born in Tampa. His grandfather was a Spanish immigrant, however his (Lou's) nationality is Portugese. No idea on where his parents were born.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 01:02 AM) IIRC, Steff said Rock was more focused on watching his son play, which is why he wasn't going to sign an extension with the Sox. That was way back in the offseason It was pure opinion on my part. He's made a ton of $. Got a ring. When they didn't offer him a deal I assumed moving on would be a good thing for him.
  22. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 08:15 AM) The Sox better be careful. Remember the first half of the year 2005 the Scout seat were empty basically every game. It looked embarrassing on TV. I hope they are not biting off more than they can chew for short-term profits and when the team inevitably has a bad year or two and can't sell those seats. Thankfully these ones wont be on tv as much. But I suspect it will be the same. The only reason the scout seats were full this year was cause of the playoff ticket deal. We were only able to get 4 scout seat games this past year and have already gotten offered a dozen for '07 so the fall off has started.

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 12:59 PM) She's actually wearing a little children's costume because I had a hard time finding a good doggie costume that would fit her. That is hysterical!!!

    Halloween costumes

QUOTE(Soxy @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) World's cutest dog. Awww.. Last year Ginger (the 70 lber) was the angel and Abby (the 15 lber) was the devil. I was surprised they liked the costumes. This year.. not sure if we'll even be home to hand out candy.
  25. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 12:36 PM) Writing's on the wall. Looks like sometime early next year for me. Will you at least get to spend Christmas and New Year's with your family...?
