Ugh.. Topinka is friends with a looney that lives down the street from us. She visited her a month or so ago and door knocked down our block. I heard her blabbing to the neighbors and she made me ill. She knocked on our door and Ginger tried to bite her when she tried to step into our foyer. She never says anything about what she's going to do and just badmouths everyone else. And she smells.

Ick.. no flowers. Just call her. Movie and dinner (fast dinner like BWW or Applebee's). The conversation from dinner should clear up any questions or concerns you have.

Pat Tillman's brother comments on the Iraq war, not so good.
Steff replied to BHAMBARONS's topic in The Filibuster
http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/daily/frontpage/30126.php PHOENIX - The brother of an NFL player who was killed in Afghanistan after quitting the team to join the U.S. Army Rangers has spoken out. Kevin Tillman, a former Army Ranger who served in Iraq and Afghanistan with his older brother, Pat Tillman, has remained silent since his brother's death in 2004. But this week, he wrote a scathing indictment of the war in Iraq, the Bush administration and American apathy. "Somehow, the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes," Kevin wrote on Truthdig.com, which purchased his work. The brothers, both Arizona State University graduates, joined the Army in response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. They served together as Rangers with the 2nd Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment. Pat Tillman, who played defensive back for the Arizona Cardinals, was killed by friendly fire near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in April 2004. The Defense Department is investigating allegations of a cover-up, including failure by the U.S. Army to tell Tillman's family for several weeks that he had been killed by gunfire from his fellow Army Rangers, not by enemy fire as they initially were told. Kevin Tillman has not spoken publicly about the war or his brother's death since his discharge from the Army. But in Truthdig.com, Kevin wrote openly about the war and America's response to it. "Somehow, the same incompetent, narcissistic, virtueless, vacuous, malicious criminals are still in charge of this country. Somehow, this is tolerated. Somehow, nobody is accountable for this." After playing for the ASU Sun Devils, Pat Tillman was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 1998. He played with the team for four years. On Sept. 12, 2001, he gave an interview in which he talked about how "stupid" football seemed relative to world events. "At times like this, you stop and think about not only how good we have it but what kind of system we live under," he said. "My great-grandfather was at Pearl Harbor. And a lot of my family has gone and fought in wars. And I really haven't done a ... thing as far as laying myself on the line like that." Pat was on the verge of signing another contract with the Cardinals in the spring of 2002 when he decided to join the Army instead. The Tillmans were initially sent to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2003, the brothers returned to the U.S. for training to become Army Rangers. After that, they were sent to Afghanistan. Sorry, didn't see the topic already started below. Please merge. -
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061020/ap_on_...XAwBHNlYwM3NTU- CHICAGO - The Bronx is lovely in the summer, really. What with the chirps of the boo birds, the friendly neighbors and the tranquil, get-away-from-it-all atmosphere, it's no wonder Alex Rodriguez likes New York so much. But let's just say he does get evicted, er, wants a change of scenery. Might we suggest the North Side of Chicago as the perfect spot for his new summer home. The conditions are ideal: a manager who brought out the best in him, a city eager for someone to adore, good restaurants, less traffic, cheaper housing, an actual beach where he can work on his tan. Best of all, nobody would really care if he wins or not. These are the Chicago Cubs we're talking about.

Somehow attach a red velvet rope on and/or around yourself (maybe with fishing line?). Carry a clipboard with only your name on it. "VIP Area".

A girlfriend of mine is doing this. Wearing a skeleton costume with a bikini over it and a Nicole Ritchie nametag. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 09:59 AM) For Vegas you could do something really wrong and dress up like Rep Foley somehow... The pedophile thing is popular. A Priest with a little boy attached to the "front" of him is waaaay overplayed in Vegas every year. Last year we saw at least 20 of them at one party.

Attach Barbie dolls to your clothes. "Chick Magnet".

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) LOL That's actually pretty funny. The Mastercard commercials are popular this year from what I've been hearing. Wear regualr clothes. Attach a sign that says "Shirt: $30...Jeans: $50...Shoes: $70......Halloween costume that took minimal effort: Priceless. I'm trying to think of something that involves something Vegas related. Like a poker chip (on your shoulder) or something like that. Wear normal clothing and hang a noose around your neck. "Well hung"

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) Either way. I can get crazy if need be. People tend to go all out in Vegas as I was there once for Halloween a few years back. This isn't so much crazy as fitting for your persona.. LOL. Find a box large enough to fit around your body. Cut some holes for your arms and head, and then cover the box with wrapping paper. Add a large bow. Attach a tag that says "TO: Women, FROM: God". God's gift to Woman..

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 09:06 AM) Steff, give me an idea. I'll be in Vegas for Halloween and have no clue as to what my costume will be. How crazy do you want to get...? And are you into buying something or using stuff you've got already?

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/19/stingray.reut/index.html Stingray leaps into boat, stabs man in chest POSTED: 6:54 a.m. EDT, October 19, 2006 MIAMI, Florida (Reuters) -- A leaping stingray stabbed an 81-year-old Florida boater in the chest, authorities said Wednesday, leaving its poisonous stinger lodged close to his heart in an incident recalling the one that killed Australian TV naturalist Steve Irwin last month. Fire Department officials in Lighthouse Point, about 30 miles north of Miami, said James Bertakis was in a small recreational boat with two grandchildren Tuesday when the spotted eagle ray leaped aboard and struck him. "It's just a real freak thing," Lt. Mike Sullivan told Reuters, saying the incident occurred on Florida's Intracoastal Waterway, where stingrays are rarely seen leaping in the air. "For an 81-year-old man he's in really good shape," Sullivan added, saying Bertakis was expected to make a full recovery after surgery at a local hospital to have the stinger removed from his chest. "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin, 44, died when a stingray's stinger punctured his heart off Australia's north coast last month. It was one of only a handful of stingray fatalities on record.

So sad.. so so sad. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061019/ap_on_...XIwBHNlYwMyNzQ3 NEWARK, N.J. - A Bible camp counselor and a Boy Scout leader were among 125 people arrested nationwide in an Internet child pornography case in which subscribers purchased photos and videos of children engaged in sex acts with adults, federal authorities said Wednesday. The case originated in New Jersey, but quickly spread to 22 states. The defendants were charged with either possession or receipt of child pornography. Additional arrests are expected. Prosecutors said the Web site alerted subscribers that its content was illegal and urged them to be discreet about their purchases. "When I say `hard-core' pornography, I am talking about child pornography that includes images of children as young as six months involved in bondage and sodomy," U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie said. "This type of depraved conduct is something a civilized society cannot tolerate." Christie said none of the defendants appeared in any of the images they obtained from the Web site. He would not identify the Web site or say whether it is still in operation. Among those arrested were a Bible camp counselor from Vancouver, Wash.; a Boy Scout leader from Mission, Texas; and a pharmaceutical researcher in New Jersey. Several of those arrested nationwide have prior records for molesting or sexually assaulting children, officials said. One defendant from San Diego told agents at his arrest that he had molested at least eight children over a 30-year period, and boasted of being able to identify particularly vulnerable children, said Christie. Another defendant from Sacramento, Calif., was found to be in possession of a hand-held video camera with a videotape showing him sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, Christie said. "I'm the father of four young children between the ages of 13 and 3," Christie said. "This is every parent's worst nightmare. It is just deeply disturbing to know there are people like this out there in our neighborhoods."

Ewu. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061019/ap_on_...DltBHNlYwM3MTY- NEW ORLEANS - After Hurricane Katrina, Zackery Bowen and his girlfriend Adriane Hall appeared in news stories as examples of young people who had pressed on in the battered city despite evacuation orders and a lack of power and water. Their story came to a disturbing end this week: Bowen leapt to his death from a hotel, leaving a note that led police to a French Quarter apartment where they found a woman's charred head on the stove, limbs in the oven and torso in the refrigerator. Bowen's note said he had strangled and dismembered his girlfriend, but did not mention her name, police said Wednesday. Authorities said that because of the condition of the dismembered woman's body they could not identify her. They were looking for Hall, however. The body was found late Tuesday in the second-floor apartment that Bowen and Hall had shared above a voodoo shop, according to the landlord. A woman who identified herself as Priestess Miriam Chamani in the Voodoo Spiritual Temple and Cultural Center below the apartment said the couple had recently moved in. "You never know what's going on in people's minds," she said. The apartment's owner, Leo Watermeier, said he last saw Hall on Oct. 5, four days after the couple put down a deposit on the one-bedroom, $750-a month apartment. Later that day, Watermeier said, Bowen called him, angrily saying the woman was kicking him out. Watermeier said Hall told him she had caught the boyfriend cheating. The motive appeared to be a dispute over rent, police spokesman and chief of detectives Anthony Cannatella said. It indicated Bowen strangled the woman after an argument and cut up her body with a hand saw and knife, according to police. "He took his life to compensate for the life he had taken," Cannatella said. The note, Cannatella said, indicated the woman was killed early in the morning of Oct. 5, in apparent conflict with the landlord's account of seeing them that day. A story published by Newhouse News Service last year described the couple gathering tree limbs for cooking fires and trading alcohol — easy to get because of their jobs as bartenders — for clean water. They also found a creative way to make sure police kept patrolling their home: a story in The New York Times included her flashing her breasts at officers to make sure they drove by. "We've been able to see the stars for the first time," Hall told Newhouse after the storm last year. "Before, this was a 24-hour lit city. Now it's peaceful." Holly Jacker, who tended bar with Bowen, said he was outgoing and a hit with the ladies. "Women loved him," she said Wednesday night, over the din of music in at Buffa's, the dimly lit bar. "He was gorgeous, charming, a big fat flirt." Det. Ronald Ruiz said police hoped to make a positive ID of the body, using DNA or dental records, sometime next week. He said police estimated the dismembered woman was in her mid to late-20s. Joy Spaulding, who works at the nearby Nawlin's Flava cafe, said she occasionally saw Hall and Bowen. "To be honest, they seemed like a real nice couple. They were good-looking people, young people trying to do something with their lives."

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) I think it would be great if he's really committed to wanting to go through the whole basic certification. You can do it in just a few weeks at any rate. You typicallly can also do "resort certification" at your vacation destinations. Basically, a half-hour or so of pool instruction and then a supervised shallow reef dive with a well-qualified instructor as your buddy. I used to be very against these, arguing that it could give the novice diver a false sense of security and he/she may gget another chance to do a less controlled/supervised dive down the line and get into trouble. In this case though, Jim is smart enough to know better, and if most of the dive opportunities he'd have are in a resort setting, I do think that is an option. . . . especially sicne your open water certification dive in Illinois tends to be underwhelming at best (eg, a flooded rock quarrry in the summer), or brutal at worst (eg, a flooded rock quarry in winter). A quickie resort certification in a tropical setting may be more to Jim's liking. There is actually a place here in Plainfield that gives lessons in one of those pools. I think he would be more comfortable in that first. After that they have hook up that take you on weekend things to go diving. I think he's more interested in getting it done because we are going to Atlantis in Feb and The Vigrgin Islands in May. Aside from that he's back to traveling for work so he's going to be in California, Texas, and Florida for long weekends more often after Christmas. I'm going to check on the price. I like to get him one off the wall gift a year and this might be it. LOL.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) exactly... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_bomb exactly... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dirty_bomb QUOTE A test explosion and subsequent calculations done by the United States Department of Energy found that assuming nothing is done to clean up the affected area and everyone stays in the affected area for 1 year, the radiation exposure would be "fairly high". However, recent analysis of the Chernobyl fallout seems to show that many people are hardly affected over 5 years and more. Because a terrorist dirty bomb is unlikely to cause many deaths, many do not consider this to be a weapon of mass destruction. Its purpose would presumably be to create psychological, not physical, harm through ignorance, mass panic, and terror. Alrighty then.... -
