I've been saying this to my super-Cubs-fan co-worker for years. What the hell is with the pitching coach over there, if these guys keep getting hurt? You would think that, since the entire franchise is built around them, there'd be an outcry, but no: year in, year out, it's the same sad story. Thank God for Don Cooper.

The official Soxtalk 2006 predictions thread
LVSoxFan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My whole thing that I worry about--well, not really--is that people just worry about winning the division first. Remember, that was the mantra last year: just win the damn division and we'll cross the other bridges as we come to them. Well, that sure worked out--so if it ain't broke... That said, it's going to be a tough division this year. Cleveland is PISSED. Minnesota's always good, who knows about the Tigers, and I'm sure KC is sick of being our b**** like they were last season. Good news: winning a tough division is sure a good warmup. -
It IS a Cubs town and will ALWAYS BE. Be careful what you wish for, guys. Already, season tix are gone for 2006. I tried to buy an Ozzie plan and they were all upper deck, NO Cubs tix included and NO special games (like 1/2 way to St. Pats or 4th of July). So while the Cubs will ALWAYS outdraw us, our attendance has SKYROCKETED. I almost keeled when I saw all the people at the parade--where the hell WERE these people all season? Not at the games! I was--I have pix of me and the other 8,000 faithful shivering in May games last year. LOVED the idea that the Sox I had all to myself. No more. I walked into a sports store on Michigan this week. Last year, if you walked in, it was 95% Cubs stuff and you were lucky if they had maybe 2 Sox jerseys and a couple of crappy t-shirts. Now it's reversed--they have an entire WALL of Sox stuff, about seven jerseys, and even my local WHITE HEN has a little White Sox kiosk with pennants and the DVDs. I for one am more than willing to accept a LOSS of attendance if it means enjoying full access to the park, like last year and years prior (until the playoffs, that is). This is just too much. LET the Cubs have the attendance--TRUST ME. They sold out all last year and they SUCKED. This year they will be even worse. But no matter how you slice it, we are World Series Champions. Period.

In Frank's defense, when Ozzie took over he shut his yapper and seemed to be more of a team player and definitely provided some highlights--when he was able to play. Of course, Ozzie made it clear who was boss and that Frank's whining would get him benched. When he did play last year (I saw him at least a few times), he was crushing the ball. I was there at his first game back--people went nuts. In the Sox' defense, they seemed to give him quite the love at the end of the season, letting him throw out the first pitch, handing him the WS trophy on the dais at the parade, making it clear that they knew he was an icon even though he really had nothing to do with the second half of the season or the playoffs, as he was injured. I thought the first pitch was a nice touch. They could have gotten a celebrity or the mayor, but they got him. Having said all that, Frank Thomas should have just shut his damn mouth. And by doing what he's doing, he's showing the whole world probably WHY the Sox won their first World Series... without him. And WHY he is like the anti-Konerko. And another sad reminder of when we had all the high-priced ball crushers--Ordonez, Lee, Frank... we never got anything done. I never want to go back to those days again, ever. I would rather get beat playing Ozzie ball then return to another mish-mash team of scrubs and superstars, that can put on 13-run slugfests but never climb out of second place in the former Comedy Central. Sorry, but I'm with KW on this. Frank HAD to know after going down yet again last season that there was little chance we would resign him... for him to act all surprised like this seems disingenuous. What I think happened is now that the World Series buzz has worn off, the strained relationship between him and KW is finally something neither is able to hide. Good riddance. You could have gone out with class, but instead... you went out like Sosa. I'd be far more receptive to somebody like Rowand complaining about being let go, even though that's the biz--but Rowand has something Frank utterly lacks: class.
-
Whoever said "f*** yes," I couldn't have said it better myself! I'm still devastated about Rowand, but this takes some sting off. YEAH BABY!
-
Well I also think the sad truth is that outside of Chicago, nobody gives a toot about the Sox--as evidenced by the ratings for the WS. Who cares? They are heroes here, and that's all that matters.
-
I wasn't at the WS games but on TV I've never seen a crowd go nuts like they did for Pods' walkoff homer. I was at the second Boston game here in the division series and went Iguchi hit that homer (the 5-3 game) I have never witnessed such celebration at the Cell, ever. Even after the game people were screaming.
-
Oh I'm sure it will be at the Cell; probably somewhere on the councourse right behind home plate.
-
I called City Hall and they said that was a one-day only thing, BUT it will be back for a week-long appearance, they just didn't know when. SOMETHING TO LOOK OUT FOR HERE. I want to see that thing and take a pic before next season begins! Hopefully people here can keep an eye out for that info.

Guys the Sox subscribe I'm sure to ASCAP or BMI or else they wouldn't be able to play any music at the games or use it in their intro. If they wanted to put AC/DC on the DVD it's simply a matter of negotiating a royalty with their publisher. For AC/DC it could be a great marketing opportunity, just as I'm sure Journey's Greatest Hits sales completely spiked the past month here. The Sox may decide it's more trouble than it's worth, but on the other hand the publishers could view this as an added revenue stream. So no it's not impossible.
-
Hey I asked this a while ago but can you please also mention to him to include the intro video from each of this year's home games? That was a favorite, and I'm guessing it's going to change before next season--it has to. It would be a nice memento to open the DVD!
-
LMAO! I TOO SAY THAT: you can hear the hottttt dog guy on TV! I've heard him too! My favorite beer vendors were Frank (at the stand under Fundmentals) and Bob (ponytailed guy in left field bleachers). I feel bad because I did not get to say goodbye to them this year (not being able to go the ALCS or series).

You realize that the Journey song will forever be remembered with this, right? At first, I thought: you've gotta be freakin kidding me. JOURNEY? But the song grew on me and I played it on my IPod before every WS game (along with Thunderstruck). And now it will forever be a Sox song for the rest of my life. The only time I remember something like that was when the Pittsburgh Pirates won the series once (in the 70s I think) and their whole theme song was "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge. How great is it that Steve Perry ended up coming to games and hanging out in the clubhouse?!!?! Journey is SO South Side! The Cubs would have somebody like Hootie & the Blowfish or... puke... Jimmy Buffet.
-
I want to send him a note suggesting that when they do a 2005 highlight DVD, they include the opening video that we see at every Sox game. A) Because it's awesome and B) It's never going to be the same after this year. Obviously, they're going to make a new one for next year. How weird--and superb--is it going to be that next year it will be announced: "Ladies and gentlemen! On YOUR FEET! For your 2006 WORLD CHAMPION Chicago White Sox!"

QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) sorry, but, compared to being in f***ing columbia MO...lets just say i'm not shedding any tears for you Point taken, LOL!

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) There's no such thing as "Sox Nation". Couldn't think of a better term, sorry! Hey I'm on a roll, never mind! I mean: was it over... when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? WHO'S WITH ME... AGHHHHHHHHHHH!

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) murphys on broadway...i used to go to that bar, i live about a block away...anyways i was out last night at duffys and that place was packed...i mean slammed...all sox fans or at least people rooting for the white sox....it was a great time i would suggest anyone that is in the area to stop by duffys tonight for the game...it is 1 dollar budlight pints and half price appetizers...they usually do 2 for 1 shots during certain times of the game also GO WHITE SOX! Yeah I had heard that about duffy's. Much bigger place too. I've been to Murphy's for all the playoff games since that Boston Friday sweep, so I've been superstitious. I watch the first four innings at home, then go to the bar. So far, so good. Although last night it was, went home, then to the bar, then home, home, home, zzzzz... BTW everybody I'm not trying to throw a pity party for me; just pointing out I wish I could be jumping up and down among Southsiders--but there's about 20 of us at Murphy's. Not surprisingly, during the '03 Cubs season the entire freakin part of the city was just mesmerized for about two weeks--every bar, every window-- like I imagine it is down South. We'll have fun don't worry. GO SOX!

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) I don't have anything against Native Americans, but I do object to using a "Indians" metaphor for Sox fans. LOL I just noticed that I capitalized that, oops! Reflexive, I guess. Fixed now.

Greetings to all here and I salute you for what has been an unbelievable season, and I really, really like this board a lot. You all are very welcoming, and very funny. Just wanted to say, with the few fans that are with me, we'll be making some noise in Lakeview tonight and watching probably a lot of you on TV making a LOT of noise should this be it. They don't send cameras here because there's no point: people didn't celebrate Boston or LAA here, there won't be anyone out screaming after tonight. Perhaps you saw my letter to the editor in the Sun-Times on Friday about this very phenomenom. But raise one for us--those indians off the reservation, LOL, and behind enemy lines. We'll all be watching and going nuts. And watching you guys on TV. So from the tiny bar Monsignor Murphy's on Broadway by Wellington, we say: WE SALUTE YOU FELLOW SOX NATION! BTW is it sinking in yet? Just being there? I was in Detroit yesterday and had CNN radio on; the announcer then says "Tonight it's the World Series again with the Chicago White Sox going against..." and I double-taked. It's like I still can't believe hearing that! Surreal! Back on opening day this seemed like such a distant, distant dream--and it's HAPPENING! Amazing! GO SOX! GO SOX.COM!
-
I'm totally embarassed and ashamed by the asshole who did this. When you take that kind of thing that seriously, you're not a Sox fan--you're a f***ing LOSER. As somebody who has gone to KC and Detroit in a Sox jersey for games there, their fans were all cool. We definitely bantered in some good-natured trash talking, but everybody was really nice. The only unpleasant experience I've ever had was at the Sox/Cubs games at Wrigley. Congratulations Mr. Moron Hair Puller--you are the epitome of a Cubs fan.

So What'd Ticketmaster Charge You Per Ticket?
LVSoxFan replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 18, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) $11 per ticket is higher than $8 per ticket with the math I learned. Well gee THANKS for the newsflash Steff!! I guess I expected it to be more in the $20 range or something obscene like that. I went to a concert at Double Door not too long ago and got 4 tix for $10 face value. TM tacked on $4 per TICKET charge. That's right: $16 service charge on a $40 order. 40%. So I guess I'm surprised TM isn't raping people on the World Series tix. -

LVSoxFan replied to LVSoxFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
$11 seems awfully low. I did ticketfast regular season and when all was said and done it would be something like $8 on a $30-something ticket. -
I'm dying to know this. I asked it on the other thread but it quickly got lost. So what was the damage?
-
Ahh never mind!

That's the CNA Insurance building in downtown Chicago; in the foreground is Buckingham Fountain. The building is very noticeable in the daylight because its color is rust red, which definitely makes it stand out.
