  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) I'm so impressed with the Yankees. They definitely go about offense the right way. IF, and I know it's a big if, they get Matsui and Sheffield back healthy, I think they're going to win the WS. I'm willing to bet that they don't.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) 407 AB | 115 H | 17 2B | 23 HR | 80 RBI | 78 R | 100K:63BB (1.58) | 11 SB | .283/.386/.499/.885 382 AB | 116 H | 24 2B | 24 HR | 75 RBI | 61 R | 41K:16BB (2.56) | 0 SB | .304/.336/.555/.891 Ok, maybe I'm missing something here but it seems to be a lot closer than it's being made out to be. Offensively, the numbers are close (Crede still comes out on top slightly thanks to a much higher slugging percentage), but when you factor in defense, it's not close.
  3. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) Well, I guess its atleast the game is against NY, so its on in New York, its on here, and I'm sure its also on elsewhere on the east coast, and thats really all that matters, I guess. It's not on ESPN in the NY area... it's apparently blacked out, probably because of the YES network, which is where I have to watch it now.
  4. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) And this game is on ESPN, so it helps his gold glove campaign. It's on ESPN for some people..
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:09 PM) Not in the Chicagoland area however. Not here in Jersey either apparently. Now I have to watch the s***ty YES network.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:06 PM) They said there's no debating between the 2, which is horses***. And if you look at the numbers this year, there is no debating. Crede has been clearly better. While I still think that A-Rod is the better player, he hasn't played up to his usual level this year, and Crede is clearly better.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) Joe Crede is only 3 years younger than Alex Rodriguez and doens't have anywhere near the track record that A-Rod has. Alex Rodriguez is the best 3B in baseball and probably still the best player in baseball despite the down season. A-Rod >> Crede, I'd say there's much more of a debate between choosing A-Rod or David Wright (23)/Miggy Cabrera(23) than the 28 year old Crede. Alex Rodriguez is likely still a .300, 45/50 and 120/130 guy even if he doesn't reach those numbers this year. It's just another case of ESPN hating on A-Rod any chance they get. While I agree that A-Rod is better than Crede, that hasn't been the case this year, which is what BBTN is basing it off of.
  8. BBTN just said that Joe Crede was the best 3B in the AL, and that it wasn't even a debate between him and A-Rod.
  9. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) the rest of the gang of "Cy" quality pitchers better start growing eyes in the back of their head. A lot of pitchers would have to literally die for Garland to have a realistic shot at the Cy Young. It's not happening, especially because his ERA will not be below 4 this year, and probably not even below 4.5.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) They were going to place him on the DL and than have him up in September. Yea, I know. I was saying that they can't just leave him in AAA because his rehab assignment was as long as it could go.
  11. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) I wasn't sure....you think they'd just leave him, I dunno... They can't without having him pass through waivers, which he likely wouldn't do.
  12. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Unless the sentence is: Pitchers like Jon Garland don't win the Cy Young. or possibly: Jon Garland came into custody of the Cy Young after bashing Francisco Liriano, Johan Santana, Jonathon Papelbon, Roy Halladay, Justin Verlander, and B.J. Ryan in the head with a poorly fashioned cane. You forgot a lot of other pitchers too But yea, you got my drift
  13. QUOTE(tealeafreaderii @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) I didn't realize he only had three losses... how is it possible that people were calling him Judy and the walking tampon in game threads a couple months ago...? This kid is starting to look like a contender for the AL cy young. No, no he's not. It's not even close. People (including myself) were complaining about him because he had a 7.11 ERA in April, 5.40 in May, and 4.50 in June, even though he is being paid a ridiculous amount of money (which I still think is way too much for him). He has a 4.99 ERA on the year, along with a 1.40 WHIP, and shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentance as "Cy Young".
  14. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) TOP TEN THINGS THAT MAKE A GOOD SOXTALK.COM POSTER: 10. ABILITY TO POST "SEND [iNSERT STARTER'S NAME HERE] TO THE BULLPEN AND START B-MAC" THREAD EVERY WEEK 9. DEMONSTRATE CLINICAL SCHIZOPHRENIA, BETWEEN "WE'RE DOOMED" SCENARIOS AFTER A LOSS AND "ALL THE PIECES ARE IN PLACE!" AFTER A WIN 8. ENTER INTO LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIHP WITH JOHN GARLAND. FIRST HALF HE WAS "JUDY"; SECOND HALF HE'S OUR ONLY HOPE, OBI WAN, OUR ONLY HOPE (THE REVERSE BEING TRUE LAST YEAR) 7. ENJOY BEING PUT IN THE DAMNED-IF-YOU-DO SITUATION OF PICKING A CENTER FIELDER TO START ONCE AND FOR ALL: ANDERSON = GREAT GLOVE AND NOODLE BAT; MACkOWIAK = OKAY BAT BUT SPECIAL-OLYMPICS-LIKE CF ABILITY 6. SECOND-GUESS OZZIE WITHOUT "REALLY" SECOND-GUESSING HIM, BY PREFACING POSTS WITH DISCLAIMERS LIKE: "I'M NOT TRYING TO BE AN ARMCHAIR MANAGER, BUT...", WHILE PARKED FIRMLY IN YOUR LAY-Z-BOY 5. PISS EVERYBODY OFF BY STARTING AN ATTENDANCE THREAD 4. PULL "RANK" WITH A NEWBIE BY TIPPING YOUR AGE: "HEY, KID! I WAS THERE WHEN LUKE APPLING HIT FOR THE CYCLE. BACK WHEN CARS COULDN'T GO UP HILLS!" 3. REFER TO NOW-DEPARTED BACKUP CATCHER AS "THE WIDGENATOR" 2. KNOW TO INSTINCTIVELY MUTE TV PLAY-BY-PLAY WHEN HAWK UTTERS DEADLY PHRASE: "WELL, BACK WHEN I WAS A PLAYER..." 1. ACKNOWLEDGE THAT GREATEST BROADCAST MOMENT IN RECENT SOX HISTORY WASN'T HAWK'S "JOOOOE! CREEEEEDE!" BUT RATHER A BORED-OUT-OF-HIS-SKULL DJ SINGING "BILLY, DON'T BE A HERO" DURING THE BROADCAST OF AN AWAY GAME Yup, sounds good to me. Excellent, excellent post. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) A good poster should only talk about being a good Sox fan if they stayed up for all of Game 3 of the WS. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) What's wrong with John Garland, Mike McDougall, Freddie Garcia, and Scott Podsednick?
  15. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) If it bugged me THAT much...I would have punched the guy or berated him. I did neither. Nope, instead you came home and made a thread about it on a message board. Either way, it seems to have bothered you more than it ought to. I mean, its not like he was there with a "f*** the White Sox" shirt or anything..
  16. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) I'm going to stay away from commenting on Wisconsin this year. I'll be buying this once I get to school.. ..and I already own this (not that I have anything against Wisconsin, both my parents went there, but I feel obligated to get these and wear them home for Christmas break since I'll be in Minnesota )
  17. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:13 PM) I agree...but you may be asking for trouble. A guy at a Sox/Yankees game, wearing full Twins gear, is asking for trouble. Not that he deserves it. I disagree. If it bugs you THAT much seeing someone wearing another teams hat/jersey at a Sox game, even if it is a division rival, then you might want to take a step back and think about it.
  18. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) not overly pessismistic (not a shout a Fathom--b/c I consider him a good poster,) He might have the reputation, but compared to some posts recently, he's made to look optimistic.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) A lot of the times, starting pitchers are turned into relievers because they lose their velocity as their pitch count increase Or they are like Bobby Jenks/Kerry Wood and just can't pitch the innings required without likely getting hurt. (I think this was the case with Gagne, although I could be wrong)
  20. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) i think hes gonna be a good major league pitcher. Like a number 2 or 3 guy. Same. Its probably just me, but I like "feel" starters rather than power ones.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:42 PM) Personally I would never wear my Sox stuff to another ballpark, why be a target for some goofball who decides they don't like my team or feel the need to "educate" me on why their team is better. To me, thats like saying that you wouldn't wear a Sox hat around where I live, which is a Yankees/Mets/Red Sox area. Just because I live in Jersey doesn't mean I won't wear my Sox stuff around, even if there are goofballs who don't like them.
  22. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) When did he say that? 'If [starting McCarthy] went through my mind, we would have done it already,'' Guillen said. ''I think those five guys we bring -- put it this way, if we throw those five guys from my starting rotation in the air, they won't land. Somebody would pick them up. ''Everyone talks about McCarthy. Last year we threw McCarthy, and he wasn't too good either. OK? Check the records. Thank you. Everyone thinks McCarthy is [blank]-damn Cy Young.'' http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-soxnt09.html
  23. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) What's that one mean? It's Spaceman Spiff, who is a character in Calvin's imagination in various C&H comics.
  24. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) i dont give a darn about baseball business. at this point, JD has earned it, and to hell with what business says, reward him for what he has done and lock him up for a few more years. Did you feel the same with Frank last offseason?
