QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) In any case, Count had more wins than most of the guys on that list, Felix..... Wins are team dependant. QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 07:09 AM) And I assume you only say that because of his 11 wins, which are team dependant. Its not Zambrano's fault he was on the Cubs, or Lackey's fault he was on the Angels. They still had better halves than Contreras Wins are mostly dependant on the teams offense. Looking at their ERA/WHIP is a better way of indicating how good they are (as is looking at other numbers). You can be a crappy pitcher and win 15+ games. You can be an amazing pitcher and win 13 games (Roger Clemens last year). Doesn't mean the crappy pitcher is better than the amazing pitcher because the crappy pitcher has more wins. I think I just said "wins are team dependant" like 3 or 4 times in one post.

Man, I saw Timo Perez on May 1, 2005. He was so goddamn good.. why did the White Sox let him go?!
-
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) Well I contributed exactly the same amount of offense to the Sox World Series title as Timo. You were actually probably more helpful than Timo was, since Timo likely cost the Sox runs/wins, rather than helped.

Rex should retire from NFL football.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 05:24 PM) For those just joining us, this is the asinine comment that started it all: From that extreme came this nugget: Then we got this topper: Plus too many more to mention. So to recap...Here are crazyman26's main points: Rex injury was not as severe as we thought, thus he could have played weeks before. Jerry Angelo is on record saying Kyle Orton is the starter in 2006, even though he said Rex is the starter. Rex Grossman has never been a starting QB and will never start a NFL game again, thus he should play for the CFL. Crazyman26's "friends" are always amazed how right he is 100% of the time and we will be too. Everyone caught up?...and ACTION! I've learned that he doesn't know how to spell 'guaranteed', and doesn't know what he's talking about. Thanks for the recap! -
I'm still curious as to how Thunderstruck is considered classic rock

QUOTE(crazyman26 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) Sorry but to be considered a starting QB he needs to start alot more than 2 games in a given year, and I dont care if 1 of them is a playoff game. Lets say a player was healthy and benched almost all year, and was brough in to play the playoff game would you say he was the starting QB too? I know Rex was not healthy but my point is there is NOTHING so far to prove me wrong on him being a starting QB in the NFL, he has to be alot more games in a season than he so far, whether he plays a playoff game or not. You do realize that if Rex retires, Kyle Orton is our starter... right? Rex gives us a far better shot at winning games than Orton does. Sorry if this has been said in the previous 6 pages. -

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) See, I have all the coverage taped on my PC, and I'm watching this, and fouls like that shouldn't happen in a 15 point blowout. Tempers rise for one reason or another. Its still Artests fault for running into the crowd like a moron. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Wait, so let me get this straight, Timo Perez is a communist? Why am I not surprised?

Chris Webber has had a better season than Rasheed Wallace, but oh well. Hell, his season has been similar to the season Jermaine O'Neal has had, although O'Neal has scored a point higher, blocked many more shots, and shot better from the field. Yet I haven't seen anyone mention Webber as a snub, reasons? My guess is that the Sixers suck -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 10, 2006 -> 12:46 AM) Well, I was thinking more along the lines of August and September. And I also look at the fact he was money in the post-season. But outta that list, only Pettite in my opinion was as good or slightly better than Jose. And I assume you only say that because of his 11 wins, which are team dependant. Its not Zambrano's fault he was on the Cubs, or Lackey's fault he was on the Angels. They still had better halves than Contreras

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) I personally see no way Owens wins the job out of ST... I agree with that completely. Kenny Williams has basically done everything he could to give this job to Brian Anderson for now and the future, so I don't think that will change anytime soon.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) Good luck with that. Good luck with finding more? It was actually really easy. Andy Pettitte: 11-2, 1.69 ERA, 0.91 WHIP Tom Glavine: 7-6, 2.22 ERA, 1.01 WHIP (people won't like it because of his record, but lack of run support answers that) Kevin Millwood: 6-4, 2.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP Jorge Sosa: 9-2, 2.31 ERA, 1.36 WHIP (the WHIP drops his value, but he's still around as good as Contreras was) Roger Clemens: 6-5, 2.42 ERA, 1.09 WHIP Noah Lowry: 8-4, 2.43 ERA, 1.10 WHIP John Lackey: 8-1, 2.57 ERA, 1.20 WHIP Joe Blanton: 7-5, 2.65 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Carlos Zambrano: 8-2, 2.65 ERA, 1.06 WHIP Mark Mulder: 6-3, 2.77 ERA, 1.37 WHIP (same as Sosa) Jeff Suppan: 7-3, 2.78 ERA, 1.26 WHIP Scott Kazmir: 7-2, 2.79 ERA, 1.43 (same as Sosa and Mulder) Shawn Chacon: 7-5, 2.90 ERA, 1.23 WHIP Dontrelle Willis: 9-6, 2.91 ERA, 1.13 WHIP Josh Towers: 7-5, 2.91 ERA, 1.15 WHIP All of these guys were as good as, or better than, Contreras was in the second half. If you want to specify as to each month (which would help Contreras's case since he had a great August and September), thats a different matter. But as for their entire second halves.. I only used players with 14 or more starts. Zach Duke (12 starts), Felix Hernandez (12 starts), Matt Cain (7 starts), Brandon McCarthy (5 starts), Jake Peavy (13 starts), and others would have qualified otherwise. Now, if you were saying "good luck to that" in terms of trying to show anyone that Contreras wasn't the best pitcher in the league, then thanks

Living in New Jersey, I never really had a problem with the blue seats. They were fine for me I only make it out to Chicago once every few years anyhow, so just being at a game in USCF was enough to make me ignore how the seats looked I guess. By comparison however, wow. The green seats look amazing.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) The Wallace brothers are responsible for the brawl, not Artest. That's why they're thugs. And there fans aren't very nice people. They're rude, obnoixuis, and dumb, and drunken bastards. They're like Cubs fans multiplied by Yankees fans. Cubs fans are drunk and stupid and somewhat rude, Yankees fans are very rude and obniouxus Wait, did the Wallaces run into the crowd? My memory if a bit foggy, remind me? -
QUOTE(MarkBuehrle_TheAce @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) all owens has to do is catch the ball, and he can clearly do that. owens just seems to fit the mold of what ozzie likes more than anderson. i like anderson, and beleive he will be a future star, but owens has a LEGIT shot at the job i think There *is* a whole process of getting to the ball.. you realize this, right? You couldn't put someone who took bad reads on the ball or didn't get good jumps on the ball and stick them at center and expect success. There is a whole process. Hell, a lot of people in the world can catch the ball. Does that mean they are good enough to play CF?

QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 07:47 PM) And all we'd have to give is the best pitcher of the second half of '05 Hopefully the green is meant for that part too. If not: Johan Santana Post-ASB: 9-2, 1.59 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, .192 BAA Jose Contreras Post-ASB: 11-2, 2.96 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, .236 BAA And I wasn't really trying to look. If I did, I could probably find others who were better than Contreras.

QUOTE(MarkBuehrle_TheAce @ Feb 9, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) owens doesnt suck on defense, he only had 3 errors last season for the barons, and i bet with that speed, he has made some spectacular plays. but, he does have a noodle arm, which worries me a little. but, if he can hit at the major league level, and doesnt make dumb mistakes on the base paths/ in the field, i think he would be a pretty good fit Derek Jeter's career fielding percentage (based on errors) is .975, while Ozzie Smith's is .978. Is Jeter anywhere near as good as Smith was at defense? No, they shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence when talking about defense unless you are talking about a good defensive player and a bad one. And Jerry Owens is a LEFTFIELDER. Not a centerfielder. He is pathetic in CF from all reports I've read and heard.
