QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 05:02 PM) I've suggested this elsewhere and people were unimpressed, but my solution to the backup cathcing situation is...Aaron Rowand. mlbtraderumors today posted that a trade was getting closer. You know Aaron would do anything for the team -- he'd get behind the plate and sacrifice his body to stop a Contreras forkball from becoming a wild pitch. Just imagine him running headlong into the backstop chasing a foul ball. It'd be awesome. I'll bet he'd call a great game too.

BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season

QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 04:15 PM) Can anyone list the backup catchers in our division and their numbers vs. righties and lefties? I'd feel a little better if we were on the same level as the other in the division with a potential Wiki backup. I still does suck though cause Hall probably would have been the best backup in the division and we lose that edge. I don't think that matters since those other teams can hit lefties better top to bottom, I think. The primary catchers, Mauer, Rodriquez, Martinez, are all better hitters than AJ and should be in the lineup every day. This is a problem for the White Sox. -
According to the first chart, the numbers are based on the TV radar guns. Those are notoriously wrong. If the same was used to compile the second chart, then the numbers could be skewed between each pitcher. That's not to say Zumaya doesn't throw the hardest, but it might mean he didn't top 100 mph 233 times. This has nothing to do with the actual article, which is good.

BUMPED::::::Toby Hall Possibly out for the season

It's rare that I can say this here but I think there are people underestimating how bad this is. After watching this team look like they were swinging at ping pong balls against lefties last year, Hall was a key pickup. His defensive position can probably be filled. That's true. But his offense can't easily be replaced. This sucks even more because he was playing so well this spring. -
Danks has a changeup I believe. I haven't seen him pitch so I don't know how good it is.
-
This is just from the game notes:
-
Some really good stuff about Danks Rogers At least he admits to possibly being wrong. It's a good article.
-
Sox have 36 GIDP this spring.
-
Anything interesting happening in this one? How is Russell pitching?
-
Here's an article on CBS talking to KW. There's nothing particularly new in it so I threw it in here.
-
Danks interview: Only tried to make a good impression in ST and hoped to get called up later. Friendly competition between him, Floyd, and Haeger. They played golf and cards everyday. Never got nervous about the competition. Describes himself as a strike thrower and trying to keep the ball on the ground. Buehrle treated him very well and put him under his wing. Said he's never been treated better by a veteran. Wow, that was basically pointless. Of course they were planning on talking to PK and he canceled, so this was on short notice. Sounds like a confident guy. I like it.

Just a heads up, Danks is supposed to be on The Score at 11 am central time.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 24, 2007 -> 07:34 PM) Replace Sisco with Haeger and I'm with you. We don't need 3 lefties. I think Sisco would serve us better being groomed to start. Agreed, Haeger's value will be in eating innings out of the pen. Sisco needs time in AAA.

Here's something from the PhilliesPhan Page. And this I think this is kind of interesting. I'm really surprised they wouldn't order a physical.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 08:06 PM) When you guys say last to first, what determines the order? Last season's record.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) We did get Floyd and Gio for Garcia. i think Freddy is about done as a MLB pitcher, seems like a good trade to me. I wonder what other teams were really thinking about Garcia's loss of velocity. The market may have been cooler than we think.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) Ozzie was quoted today saying his last two outings did not hurt his chances, strangely enough. Link, go to bottom of the article in the notes. I think they want to give Haeger the benefit of the doubt because he's a knuckleballer in Arizona so they don't want to judge too quickly. I'm guessing they have some way of judging his ability and how it will translate in Chicago.

Nice DP

Bobby suddenly looks fat.

In case you needed another reason not to want Rowand back, and possibly the reason why he won't come back: FoxSports EDIT: Turns out this is in the other Rowand thread, sorry bout that.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) He seemed from the radio to be throwing an awful lot of offspeed stuff instead of featuring the fastball like he ususally does. It's possible he was just working on something. That was my interpretation in the game thread. It seemed that he was working on his curve and change.
-
Crede best not be hurt. He got hit solid.
-
Bobby is having some control problems. Looks like he's working a lot on the breaking stuff though.
-
Bill Hall having some trouble in center. JD with another double off the wall.
-
Nice job staying with the play by both PK and Garland.
