The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Founders has spectacular beer. I go to their brewery often. Yeah I've had the Dirty Bastard and the Breakfast stout. Just tried the Centennial and it was awesome (and I'm not a big IPA guy). Founders is one of the best breweries in the country.

The Finer Things In Life
Beer haul mostly gifted from my father-in-law and brother: 3 Floyds: dreadnaught, broodoo, black sun, alpha king, pride and joy, wolf panzer (all were gifts) Bells: oarsmen ale, winter white Founders: old curmudgeon, dirty bastard, red rye p.a., centennial IPA (all were gifts) Dark horse: too cream stout 2 brothers: prairie path golden ale, domain dupage French country ale Trader Joes vintage 2010 brewed by unibroue I also have a Sam Adams Infinium. that's a lot of IPAs for me to handle. I'm gonna have to give some of it away. Oh, does anyone have any experiece aging IPA's? I have aged barleywines, but that has more malt character when fresh. I struggle to drink really high hop beers so I am wondering if a couple months of age will help me out. Or I will suck it up and drink it with the greasiest burger I can make.

I got a ridiculous Christmas beer haul that I will have to list later (I just drove back from Chicago). It includes several Founders, Three Floyds, couple 2 Brothers, etc. Also Cruzan single barrel. And I have a whole week off. Awesome.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) A few people have told me this works It won't work if your dog likes it. My dog loves jumping up to the spray bottle and drinking the water. So yeah, my 1 year old puppy nips too to get me to play. I just stopped responding and it is slowly getting better.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 09:01 PM) His arm is hurt, when he celebrates you can tell hes trying not to extend that arm. Also hes on a bunch of pain killers, Im sure with that cocktail he can barely feel anything. And Peppers makes up for his penalty. I saw the same thing. And that shot downfield came up 10 yards short.

Advertising Fail
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) This one. I hate all modern mentions of "cloud". Go back 10 years and the stupid word of the day was, "cyberspace", which is the same thing as the modern overuse of "cloud". Microsoft are advertising retarded, and need to keep away, far away...people buy most Microsoft products these days because they're forced too, not because they want too. They don't need commercials for that. I never made it into cyberspace because I was too busy driving on the information super-highway.

Kerry Wood signs 1 year, $1.5 million deal with Cubs
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) I highly doubt that. He won't be getting any national media spots at this point in his career so I doubt his local cable commercials will be worth several million dollars. It's a $2M difference. At the least, he can make up a decent chunk of that deficit and play for the team he wants to play for. I don't think it's that far fetched.

Kerry Wood signs 1 year, $1.5 million deal with Cubs
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) As I said in earlier posts, I like 1 year deals for relief pitchers so I think this is a great deal for the Cubs. That being said the salary thing is fishy. I wonder if the Cubs and Wood came to a gentlemen's agreement where if Wood pitches good this year, they'll reward him next offseason when they have 50 mil coming off the books. I think the idea of Kerry Wood as a Cub has endorsement significance. He will probably end up making more money in endorsements as a Cub than he would make as salary for any other team. Meanwhile, he will surely be traded at the deadline to a contender.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) I'm not offering an opinion on whether or not that's a good thing, but that's irrelevant to whether or not it's a Constitutional thing. I don't know if they can or not, I don't know if this judge's reasoning was sound or not. It seems to me that maybe he should have recused himself, but I'm not seeing much analysis of the decision here. Probably because it is such a gray area. I provided analysis of the Michigan case which would be instructive in this conversation. You would see where the Michigan court made up its rule as well.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) For one more, here's a summary of an early 20th century decision by the Court on how the government could require people to be subject to things like vaccinations even though declining to participate was not engaging in the activity. That was a state law under the police powers...and the vaccination was free...and the law was meant to be enforced in an epidemic.

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:54 PM) Pretty much the definition of judicial activism is stepping out of precedent to overturn the will of Congress. This point of view, if adopted, would be an enormous overhaul of precedent; it would, as I understand it, basically decide that the 10th amendment now supercedes the "necessary and proper" clause of Article 1. It could give any state that wants one a veto over federal legislation, whereas right now, the exact opposite is generally true. Balta, did you read the Michigan decision upholding the bill? In that decision the judge states that there is no precedent and that this is a case of "first impressions" (judicial speak for, "I gonna make up some stuff"). That judge cites to nothing to support his conclusion either. In fact, that decision openly states that there has never been a case where inactivity is at issue, so he makes up the idea that that because people "decide" not to be a part of health insurance system, they are involved in an "activity". His sources for this premise are entirely misplaced, relying on cases involving illegally growing pot, and rejecting blacks from staying at a hotel. United States jurisprudence is built on the principles that (1) a person is never required to act (except in very specific tort situations), but (2) if a person acts, he must act within a certain set of rules. A person cannot choose to live, yet that is the only activity that is required for payment to be required. These judges are understandably confused on how to handle these cases and are doing the best they can on the records presented. In these cases, personal beliefs will play a role.

Buehrle gets the save
QUOTE (since56 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) $2400 on a dog? How many families could use that for child care especially at Christmas. Priorities? Ok animal lovers initiate attack. So every time a dog is shot or anything else bad happens to an animal, we should look at the price tag to fix the problem and say, "I will donate that much money to a family in need instead and let this animal die."?

The Finer Things In Life
So I whirled up the Jaspers mix and made the punch. First tue Wray & Nephew is far sweeter smell g than I expected. Unless you really get your nose in there, the alcohol is fairly well hidden. That said, I'm not about to take this straight. I made the mix with a little less sugar but I thought it tasted really good so I didn't want to keep adding. The drink is actually very good. Strong but with a great mix of sweet as well. A sipper, but I am surprised by it's flavor. Not an everyday drink, but I will make my way through the Jaspers faster than I would have expected.

Props To Cowley
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) He was all over the Konerko story proving again nobody in the media has better Sox sources than he does. Dude, he only gets stories when he is being used for negotiations. Today B&B tried to follow up with PK about what Cowley reported yesterday and he really didn't know what they were talking about. And he didn't break the signing today. In fact, Mulley and Hanley were saying the deal was done at the end of their show.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) That was exactly from Bruce Levine and I think that means for teams who have put bids on him to look else where. I think it means that they are taking no more offers and will make a decision today. From everything that has happened, I just think PK wanted to see all offers and make a decision rather than feel forced into a decision.

Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox
Heyman was on MLB Network saying that he doubts there was a snag in negotiations with PK. I think Cowley is a pawn for whoever wants to use him.
