  1. QUOTE(mreye @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:22 AM) In that same group are the people that don't walk a straight line. You start to walk past them and they start "merging" left. So, you switch to the right and now they're going that way! Same effect as with drivers. People, in general, just don't pay attention to what they are doing. They are too distracted by the 8 bazillion other things going on.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) With that in mind, I hope that KW doesn't think that bringing in a new SS and CF is going to turn this team's fortunes around. We better be looking to upgrade our bench as well. What's weird is, it seemed like the club had one of the best benches in baseball in 2006 - Mack, Ozuna, Cintron, Gload and Alomar. But with Ozuna's injury, Gload gone, Mack being traded, Alomar replaced by Hall and Cintron inexplicably falling apart... they suddenly had one of the worst benches in baseball in 2007 with the likes of Gonzalez, Hall, Terrero, Molina, etc.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) I'd love to say that Selig will take some steps when the Mitchell report comes out and names names. I just don't have enough confidence to say that for sure though. Selig needs to go. We need a new Kennesaw Mountain Landis-type character at this stage. Someone not afraid to kick a few asses. Here is a question - how does Selig lose his job? Can the owners fire him with a majority or something? How does that even work?
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:56 AM) My view on this is that the girl settles for a guy she is with just because it fits her timeline. I have known women that have done that. They just kind of cruise from serial boyfriend to serial boyfriend, but then when they have the urge to make a family, they decide "this one seems good enough". Weird.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:38 AM) Ding. Gotcha.
  6. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:36 AM) There's a big difference between gold diggers and decisive women. And those girls don't know what they want for their life, they know what they want other people to GIVE them. Big difference. Ding.
  7. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:16 AM) Really? Granted I'm young, but in my experience, having the girl be clear in what she is looking for makes everything much easier. I agree. And its not true for all men either. Just a lot of them. I've known plenty of guys who constantly latch onto women who are flaky and weak-minded, despite their protestations that's not what they want. Then when they happen upon a stronger woman, they find an excuse for it not to work. I think some guys have a subconscious desire to be "in charge" that is greater than their desire to be with a straight-forward woman. Again, not all guys, not even most guys - but a significant number of them.
  8. QUOTE(Soxy @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) Why don't you go for the ones that know what they want? Most won't admit it, but I think a lot of men are a little intimidated by them.
  9. QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) I know a lot of people who hate Bonds for using but make excuses for Raffy. Some even hold onto the thought that Tejada tampered with the b12 on purpose (for the record I do not believe MT had anything to do with RP in any medical way, shape, or form). For the record, I never said anyone here has said anything different. I asked when his time comes will the outcry be similar. Sadly, I think Mac will eventually get in. I'd bet that none of those three (Bonds, Palmeiro, McGuire) get in. Bonds is the most likely. But none will make it, IMO.
  10. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) Then why does A-Rod give Boras a percentage of the deal if he doesn't have power? Why doesn't he just negotiate himself and keep those millions he's "giving" to Boras. A-Rod's the player, and Boras is in charge of the player, that's why A-Rod pays him. Huh? Have you ever had to deal with an attorney, or a recruiter, for example? They aren't in charge of you - you pay them a percentage of a judgement or a salary gained, and they work FOR you. That is what a sports agent is - a combination attorney/recruiter. They are the expert agent for the player.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) Make it a Republican record $4.2 million for one day. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8...=1&catnum=3 I get the feeling that Mr. Paul may be hoarding that money, and is now ready to dump it all in the next couple month on Iowa and New Hampshire as a sort of big bang thing. If he does that, the GOP race could become very interesting. Even if Paul can't win, he'll cause plenty of trouble.
  12. Hope you had a great one, YAS. Nice to see you back posting recently.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) I don't like the fact there's no mention of the Yankees paying some of Damon's salary, as well as the fact we'd play him in CF. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines But, the Contreras mention is positive maybe. That could effectively reduce payroll quite a bit.
  14. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:11 PM) If the Sox want the Yankees to add money, the Sox will have to kick-in more players. Damon can still hit a little, while Crede may not be able to play major league ball anymore. I'm surprised anyone is interested in trading for him given the injury. I agree that Damon in CF is a bad idea. With Damon, Emil Brown, Josh Fields, Dye, Richar, Konerko, and AJ the Sox would easily be the worst defensive team in baseball next season. Ugh. Konerko is still an above average defensive 1B, and Pierzynski is also solid at his position other than his throwing arm. But looking at the rest of the squad, I have to agree, not a good defensive team at all. Let's hope the team acquires a solid defender at SS.
  15. Since I've been travelling, I'll break out the air travel pet peeves... People who just stop in the middle of a busy airport walkway (usually while wheeling around a giant bag), thus causing everyone to walk into each other People who board ahead of their group number People who need 6 bins to get all their stuff through security (exception - parents with small children, which I imagine must be a royal pain to deal with) --- Not a pet peeve, but a funny - I watched someone recently who not only walked through the metal detector with her cell phone, but walked through while still speaking on it. Then looked surprised when it went off. The fact that she looked like the poster child for Valley Girl made it slightly funnier.
  16. My disgust for Palmeiro is almost as much as it is for Bonds. And no one here has said anything different. McGuire, same thing, and he won't get in either.
  17. I don't get it. Furcal is talked about on here constantly, and with Garland available via trade, it seems like the Sox fit well with the Dodgers for trade. And yet, I don't think I've seen Furcal mentioned even once by the press as a target for the Sox. KW did tell MB and hinted to the media that moves could be big - I am hoping Furcal is the big "surprise", that isn't really a surprise to us.
  18. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) "No Country for Old Men" looks damn good the Coen brothers have struck out with some of their recent projects but this one looks like it could be special. I finished the book recently. Read it in like 2 nights. Great stuff. Looking forward to the movie.
  19. Random question for the board... anyone have any experiences with Ford dealerships in Chicago or the surrounding area they'd like to share? Any recommended dealers, or places to avoid?
  20. But, since national polls are all we have right now, I'll throw this one in there too. In this case, Clinton's lead nationally has shrunk from 30 points to 19 points within a month. That's a pretty significant drop.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) So Hillary has slipped 6 points since the Demo debate where Edwards and Obama really took it to her, and then she cried victim. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_con...polling_history Trend? Blip? More important will be the Iowa and NH polls that come out this week, post-debate. The national polls don't mean much right now.
  22. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) It says Rotoworld... So it does. I somehow missed that. My apologies.
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Hmmm, chocolate in the chili. I don't recall if I've ever had that, but it sounds good. Almost like a mole sauce?? That's kind of the idea, same with the black beans. I tend to make a darker, richer chili.
  24. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Sorry, forgot to add, they had a sound byte of KW from the meetings, talking about the SS situation. He said "we don't know what we're going to do yet" on Uribe's option. Said the Sox are looking at SS, and every position for that matter, and determining if they can upgrade. I thought I'd seen him quoted as saying they knew what they were going to do with Uribe's option. He said recently they knew. Now he doesn't. Who knows. Can't take much of his posturing literally. We'll just have to see how things look when the dust settles.
  25. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) Alex Rodriguez-3B- Yankees Nov. 5 - 2:11 pm et Rotoworld Alex Rodriguez isn't expected to be present at this week's GM meetings, but his agent, Scott Boras, will be. Rodriguez, who is reportedly telling close friends that he would like to play for the Red Sox, still can't discuss money with other teams until next week. Boras wouldn't want him to be in the room for face-to-face talks anyway. Boras is saying that he won't go public with any negotiations. "Any discussions as to the contract terms is between the teams and ourselves," Boras said. "It's clear for all of us that we're at the point now where we've got to do a lot of work with the teams involved and we're going to keep the information and dialogue with the clubs private and confidential as we go forward." Usually Boras is all about throwing out numbers and letting teams up the bids on themselves. Is it possible that there is a feeling out there that AROD isn't even close to what he expected to be offered thus far? To early to tell, but I'm sure Boras feels this is his biggest challenge yet...
