  1. Its entirely possible that Gio could be in the 2008 rotation. Think about this - what if he trades both Contreras AND Garland? That leaves you MB, Javier, Danks and 2 open slots. Even if Floyd gets one (which is no guarantee), I'd have to think that Gio is going to be seriously considered for the other slot (along with Masset, Haeger, and possibly Sisco).
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) With the bat...yes, he'd be a gigantic step forward, if he was healthy. However, this season, he's only played in 91 games...let's not forget that. And that was after only playing in 123 in 2006 (prior to the playoffs) so he missed some 40 games that season and probably 50-60 this season. And on top of that...his defense is still a step back. If Crede came back at 100% and Richar performed well at SS that would help cover that somewhat, but still, we'd be sacrificing defense for offense. It's a good trade based on how abjectly awful Uribe has been, but it's still worth remembering that point. I haven't watched Eckstein play, I can only see his numbers. I am sure he (and most other SS's) would be a defensive step back from Uribe. I guess its a question of balance - how much D to give up, for how much O you get back. And I don't think Richar is a real option at SS. EDIT: I haven't seen Eckstein play very often.
  3. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 09:49 AM) What gaffe, was it that he took office? Actually not what I meant, but that's even better.
  4. I'd like to not close this thread. I think the video is not in itself insulting, it provokes discussion. The fact that it was posted the way it was, however, was certainly inviting similar responses. One more time - I'll ask everyone to take a deep breath and remember that you are all pretty.
  5. I'd prefer Furcal, but Eckstein would still be an enormous improvement from 2007.
  6. QUOTE(drive like jehu @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 09:33 AM) I'd still like to fire Jerry Reinsdorf.... if it were possible. Well, I've seen everyone get blamed, I guess we might as well "fire" Jerry too. Because a guy who plows almost all the profits back into his payroll every year, brought us a World Championship and has constantly improved the ballpark sure is a loser.
  7. With Bristol's season over, its time for a final update on PYL... Lin had a surprisingly solid rookie season at Bristol, especially after his disappointing showing in spring camp. Here are Lin's final numbers... Team League W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG BRI APP 6 5 3.30 14 11 0 0 0 62.2 71 33 23 6 17 65 1.07 .280 That 3.30 ERA is definitely encouraging, and perhaps even more important is his 65/17 K/BB ratio. That control seems to be his strong suit, and that was consistent throughout the season. He did have a few bad performances as the year went on though, mostly towards the end. Looking at his last 10 appearances, his ERA was 4.07, and it appears he was getting hit around - 59 hits in 48.2 IP. So overall a decent showing in Rookie-type ball, though he has some things to work on. Looking forward to 2008, it appears that Lin has solid control, but batters are hitting him too often. As a 20-year-old, one hopes he can spend the offseason getting a bit stronger, maybe adding a few more MPH to his stuff. Scouting reports indicate he has excellent movement on his breaking stuff, so if he can add a little more speed to his fastball, he should continue to develop well. Best guess, he'll be in low-A Kannapolis' rotation in 2008.
  8. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 08:29 AM) Still in all, I'd have at least thought he'd have risen to the occasion for a big Bullhorn Moment. That's about the extent of his worth in these situations. Bush probably should have pushed harder once things started to get ugly, but I think his only major gaffe from Katrina happened almost 5 years prior to the event.
  9. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 08:06 AM) Wow... I don't even know what to say. Well... I think he WAS serious about Edwards' hypocrisy. And I'd agree with him to an extent. I could tell it wasn't a real news piece, but I couldn't figure out the point. I guess I'm just a little brain-fried this morning.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 07:58 AM) I figured the green would be obvious. The quote is spliced from elsewhere... Its pretty obvious if you think about it. OK, just wanted to make sure. I thought so, but your indignation seemed almost real.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:45 PM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Ozzie just needs to STFU. Worry about the Sox and their effort on the field. Also, I don't like the comments further down the page by Ozzie about how we might not have too much money to spend. Edit: the headline was confusing, and I didn't realize it was Ozzie they stated about the money, and not KW. For some reason, I'm thinking we'll be trading for Tejada sooner rather than later. Its Gonzalez. He does that constantly. His headlines don't match the articles, and his supposedly objective "reporting" doesn't usually mesh with reality, as displayed in the quotes. He believes a certain thing to be true, he can't produce any actual evidence of it, so he makes you think the evidence exists. He is just not very good at his job.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 07:49 AM) So there is finally evidence that the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is all garbage. We no know that the conservative media machine that gets bantered about by people is a myth. Because if it was as extensive as some think the news wouldn't have looked like this. If there had been a D after Craig's name, and not an R, we would seen something like this... Now how is that for spin? Kinda makes you sick doesn't it. Its really too bad that even hypocracy has become a partisan issue, because this guy deserves what he gets. If you want to live one lifestyle and preach another, eventually karma is going to catch up with you. Larry Craig is having his day, hopefully John Edwards gets his soon. I'm confused. Where is this from? And I assume you must have meant to post in green. That quote is bizarre, unless it came from the Onion or something.
  13. Between Paiml and Miranda, it seems to me we might have two pretty good SS prospects at the lower levels. Hopefully at least one of them succeeds at higher levels of the system.
  14. Moved to the Buster. If a discussion can be had on this topic, its best to have it here, as it tends to get pretty fiery. If that video was posted without the desire for discussion, as was hinted at, then it has no place ANYWHERE on the board, because that means it was simply a sweeping, fear-mongering accusation. So I'll go on the assumption that the original poster wanted to have a civilized discussion. That being the case, let's try to keep the tone and material respectful, much like our most recent biblical discussions. Thanks in advance.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Unfortunately...your President refuses to acknowledge the existence of anthropogenic climate change, and has failed to set up a carbon offset trading system in this country. Therefore...in order to have that plan work, you'll have to move to Europe. Just yesterday, I was reading a report from the BLM about their resource and environmental plan for a certain area of the country (long story as to why). Anyway, I thought it was interesting, the paper spoke about human change on climate as if it were a given. Just interesting to me because now even a federal agency like the BLM, who are usually pretty solidly on the side of the more conservative side of the argument in the West (generally in favor of land use more oriented towards consumption than conservation), are now accepting it. I wonder what Dubya would say if he read that report which came from within his administration?
  16. Well... the team has hit rock bottom. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that the threads have too. Between this one and CAPS MAN the board looks like a tornado of crap hit it.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) No. Shines is rumored to have a vile mouth. I had a brief encounter with Razor in ST. He was pretty damn funny.
  18. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) 10+ years too late.
  19. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) Harold has a vile mouth? Wow, never would've gussed that... I think she was talking about Razor. Or Raines.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Sadly... Hogan and Bubba the Love Sponge are treated like royalty down there. Bubba has talked about Nick's getting out of tickets several times and even had guys claiming they were the cops that let him go on his show. Truth on this one would not surprise me at all one bit. Then that is pathetic. A cop is useless to society if they let certain people do something that dangerous because they are "royalty".
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) And the whole "Flashing his senate ID card" probably didnt' help. Similar to the Hogan thread... that sort of thing just pisses cops off. Makes them want to throw the book at 'em.
  22. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) His dad isn't exactly the Stephen Hawkins of sperm donators, so what should you expect? The cops should lose their jobs if that story is true. Possible its true, but highly unlikely. First, that story just oozes with "I'm trying to look cool". Second, most cops (not all) would love to arrest him in that scenario - some stupid teenager (or 20-something) doing 100+ in a sooped up car. And I really doubt that 3 cops in a row would be so wowed about "OMG ITS HULK HOGAN'S SON!" that they would let him go. Quite the opposite - I'd expect most cops to want that much more to arrest him. I don't believe it a bit.
  23. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) This interview was done within the last month http://www.rides-mag.com/online/?p=770 Any other person would have been thrown in jail 3 times in that afternoon A couple weeks later, and Nick puts his buddy in critical care. Professional driver my ass I wouldn't believe a word of that story.
  24. Heh. I searched that site and couldn't find it. I guess I didn't look hard enough. Thanks!
  25. You know what would be handy? If MILB.com had a map of the U.S., showing where all the various teams were. Something interactive, where you could pick what level to show (AAA, AA, etc.), or what league, or a close up on a region. It would be very easy to do using rastering.
