  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) Stonozonol? Oh come on now. I can't tell if you are joking, you probably are, but there's no reason to believe this and its not something you should throw around so flippantly.
  2. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 24, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) I'll PM you for fear of the almighty banhammer. You are truly a warrior poet.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) Just once, I'd like to see them sign an Endy Chavez, Fr.Gutierrez or Juan Lagares quality defender in the OF...to be used as a defensive replacement. If Shuck was a good enough defensive upgrade, that would be one thing...but I have a feeling RV isn't going to pull either Cabrera or Avi for JB Shuck because of the offensive sacrifice isn't being offset enough like with DeAza/Viciedo. Maybe...someday...Thompson, but they still want to see if he can develop his bat. Thompson may turn into an ideal 4th OF. Jason Coats, recently promoted to Charlotte, could be that as well. Engel Beltre, from what I understand, has strong D credentials too but I admit I don't know a ton about him.
  4. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) I seem to remember that it was positioned the way it is because of the wind currents. I had thought it was construction related because of it going up at the same time as the old park, but maybe I'm remembering wrong. In any case it didn't sound like a total prevention but more of a keeping costs down move.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Listening to all of the complaints that Sox fans have had over there years, including my personal favorite that the seats were the wrong color, they would have complained anyway. But that doesn't render ALL complaints invalid. I do think they got some things wrong, some of which they fixed during the 2004-2007 renovations. And I think it's valid to ask why they pointed the stadium that way.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Good for Coats. Maybe becomes a bit of a prospect if he keeps it up. Hopefully the end for Mitchell. It has to be. Granted I've said that 1000 times. I think at the very least it is a shot across Mitchell's bow. I don't think it is just performance with him, I think there is an attitude issue, based on some reports I've heard. I like Coats, I actually had him on my Top 30 in January (back end). danman31 is a fan too as I recall. He's got an unusual combo of power and contact, some speed, strong arm, plays above average corner OF defense and can play CF in a pinch. Doesn't walk a lot, but seems to work counts in the few times I've seen him live or on tape. He just turned 25 in Feb so he's maybe a year (at most) older than you'd like at AAA, but you have to remember he missed his draft year recovering from a knee injury. So developmentally he's on track timing-wise.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 01:40 PM) If he said that, it is a lie. It wouldn't even make sense, as even turned to face NE, the stadium would still shield the OF at sunset.
  8. Tyler Saldino to DL, retro 4/22 (not sure of reason) Justin Jirschele and Drew Garcia flip slots Jason Coats to Charlotte (deserved and good, but that OF is full - shot across Mitchell's bow?) Michael Ynoa re-activated for Winston-Salem OF Brian Fletcher to BHAM from Ext ST
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) Oh i'm expecting it to be terrible. As I posted when the trailer first came out, it's the same movie as the original - create dinosaur, dinosaur gets loose, chaos ensues. But updated visuals will be cool. I like Pratt. Plus, it has dinosaurs. I do like dinosaurs.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 12:09 PM) http://io9.com/summer-movie-preview-28-mov...t-on-1699656590 Four in there i'm exciting to see (Jurassic World, Inside Out, Minions, Crouching Tiger 2), couple others I might rent (Mad Max, Sherlock). The rest, meh. You're excited for the new Jurassic Park movie? My lord that thing looks horrible. All subjective of course, but I can't see paying for that film.
  11. Just realized the recap didn't get posted in here last night - here it is.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 23, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) Why is Silverio in Extended? He had a decent year in AA last year and got some decent exposure in AAA even. He should at least be in Birmingham. No idea, he could be injured. Certainly I don't think Jeremy Farrell is holding him back. In fact with Farrell starting there, that tells me they originally planned on someone else being there. Not sure if that was Delmonico (who is on the restricted list for unknown reasons) or Silverio.
  13. Being an STH in the upper deck (front row 536), I personally think it's quite good. Really the only things that are bad are that it is set further back from the field than at the old ballpark (side effect of making sure everyone has good sightlines in the LD), and that the higher rows are kinda painful to get to. Value-wise it's fantastic. Our seat prices are half what they would be in a decent LD non-outfield location, and we have no one in front of us.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 11:05 PM) Man that Kannapolis lineup is horrible prospect-wise. Any chance a few guys get called up from extended spring training in the next month or so? Usually are a few. As far as position players though, not a ton of prospects to call up. By my count here are the position players of note that are in Ext ST: Ryan Jones (1B) Ryan Leonards (2B) John Ziznewski (3B) Juan Silverio (3B) Jake Jarvis (2B) Audry Santana (SS) Victor Velazquez (?) Jordan Yallen (2B) Johan Cruz (SS) Michael Danner (OF) Micker Adolfo (OF) Antonio Rodriguez (OF) Louis Silverio (OF) Brian Fletcher (OF) Zach Fisher © Ryan Plourde © Joxelier Garcia © Adolfo is obviously the biggest prospect there but I doubt they rush him to A ball yet. Cruz in the same boat. I think the most likely guys are probably Ziznewski, Leonards, Jarvis, Rodriguez and Fisher.
  15. I've been writing for Future Sox for about 7 years now, and I've interviewed probably close to 50 players. The article I just posted was one of my favorites to write, and the interview I did yesterday with Ethan was probably the most intense I've done with a player. He opened up to me about something he hasn't spoken about to the media yet, and in fact he turned down previous interview requests about his long absence from baseball. There are three really cool stories in here, so if you read anything from me this spring, I hope this is the one you read. It's not about elite prospects, in fact only one of them is probably even a "prospect" at all (and he's a fringe guy). But they're all ballplayers. Here it is.
  16. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) Just curious for those who have seen: What is a legit projection for Dykstra? back level starter? mid relief? AAAA? Eager to hear from people who have seen him. Great start this year. But only 10 Ks in 20 innings and he's old for High A. He's still fringy, but the numbers this year aren't simply that he's adjusted to the level. He also added a new cutter, and a report from a BA guy at his game said it was working quite well. He's already got fine command of 3 other pitches. No one plus pitch, but the combo is intriguing. I'd put his chances similar to a Mike Recchia (who actually hasn't started too well this year).
  17. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 22, 2015 -> 05:51 PM) I was confused by this, since the box score kept moving between having Trey 0-4, K, and what it shows now. The WS recap doesn't mention Trey leaving the game, and the guy that replaced him, Ethan Wilson, doesn't have an MILB record past 2011. Really strange. Wilson missed 2011-2014, but is indeed back with the Dash, and that was him playing today. I know because I talked to him after the game, for an article I'm writing. No idea what the story with Trey was though, I didn't get to ask that.
  18. Dykstra is ready for AA. Jason Coats on pace for over 100 doubles, lol.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) Honestly, those numbers are pretty terrible when you consider the bandbox that is his home park. I have zero faith he'll ever become a big leaguer let alone a starter. He's played like 6 games at home. That sample size means nothing in terms of ballpark effect. He's actually improved. He's going up the middle and oppo, his core numbers are much better. His defense is improved. Seven of those K's came in the first three games. I mean, if we are going to deal in small sample sizes, then here is his line since the first three games: .290/.333/.419, 1 HR, 1 2B, 8 K in 33 PA (24.2% K/PA).
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 09:39 PM) 2 errors on 3 plays for Anderson. He had been doing great on defense Well, he hadn't been making errors, but that doesn't necessarily mean much. Have you watched any of the games?
  21. Sorry for the delay, but here is the recap from yesterday's games. Lots of speed in Winston-Salem.
  22. QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Apr 21, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) I'd like to see Coats called up too, very polished hitter and a very shrewd draft pick by Hahn in 2012 getting him in the 29th round coming off an injury. I'm a fan. Unusual combo of good contact and power, short and quick stroke, some speed, good to better defense on the corners with a strong arm, can even play CF with some acceptable competence (though he's really more a corner guy long term). Considering he got a late start he's done well. I want to see him in AAA sometime this year, probably late in the year though.
