  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Phegley back on the DL, Cheatham promoted to W-S from Kanny, Ricks demoted from Charlotte to W-S, Corley promoted to Charlotte from W-S. I think Ryan Hamme has been promoted to Kanny from GF. Uh oh, not good for Phegley. Do you know if its related to his illness, or was he injured? Corley double-promoted? That's interesting.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) Some blogger is saying Marquez is getting called up. I suppose they could throw him in the bullpen until Sunday before Hudson gets called up. Source? Link? If true, I think if anything they are just trying to up his value, and not use another option on Hudson or Torres.
  3. So, just after the big drops and some people seeming to be sure a 2nd dip is coming... the market was up a little yesterday, and is up a lot today, despite having basically no news flow. Teh markets are a fickle thing.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Oh I agree, but I don't think you want Gartrell or De Aza being a backup 1B. Of course, Viciedo can do that too, and Konerko rarely DHs, so it's a generally moot point anyways. Viciedo can play 1B, Teahen can do so, hell even Vizquel could do it in a pinch I'm sure. If an OF goes down, pretty sure you will see De Aza or Gartrell up, with Viciedo/Teahen covering 1B when necessary.
  5. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 11:35 AM) Quentin is scratched again? he is? I thought they were talking about last night's game.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) Minor league lineups are generally made differently than MLB lineups, and they generally want to maximize ABs for those that they feel may have future value to the club. That's probably all they've done with Kroeger. And he is about the only Kotsay insurance the Sox have, though it's not hard to find pinch hit extraordinaires floating around. If an outfielder goes down, Gartrell gets that call, or maybe De Aza, ahead of Kroeger. Last year, it would have been Kroeger. Kroeger has put up big numbers in AAA in years past, so I think they figure he's still that good hitter somewhere behind the numbers. Or maybe he's just done, hard to tell.
  7. QUOTE (Y2Jimmy @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) I would be very surprised if this game gets played tonight. There will be thunderstorms all night. Welcome to the board! Looks like isolated showers, chance throughout the evening, so I'd say its very likely they get the game in fine.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) Anyone else worried that Jake will consistently be battling injuries? Not sure, but I've always been nervous about his form. He seems to go across the body a lot more than others, and there is a certain bounce to his delivery that seems awkward. I would worry about his shoulder. But then, I am far from any sort of expert on pitching mechanics, so maybe I have no clue.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) what does it mean to cry like a zombie? Crying while saying "BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAINS!!!"
  10. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 08:41 AM) I'm not up on the farm system, like some, but is Hudosn our only legit tradeable pitching propsect? Are there any guys on the lower levels that could bring interest like that guy we traded in the Swisher trade? DeLo Santos i think was his name. Almost every trade scenario discussed has Hudson in it. You would think there has to be some other prospects that are a couple years away that have high ceilings. Hudson is the only pitcher in the Sox system that would be considered a high value prospect. There are some other names that might intrigue teams as part of a larger deal, or in exchange for some other low level prospect, but no one else that really stands out. DLS was indeed sent to OAK in the Swisher deal. There are a handful of potentially intriguing relievers in the minors, at the lower levels, but they aren't big value in and of themselves (Infante, Jones, etc.). As for starting pitching, the only guy in the upper levels (AA, AAA) who seemed to be high on the prospect radar was maybe Charlie Shirek, but his peripherals (K rate particularly) took a bad turn lately, and now he's injured. Carlos Torres might be a back end starter on some teams, he might have a little value, but not much. He's more likely a long/middle reliever in the majors.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 05:55 PM) Robin Williams is a great actor overall, but he especially plays an incredible psycho. He was the creepiest thing ever in One Hour Photo. I agree, he's fanstastic in those roles. So odd he's that good at stand-up comedy, and that good at basically the opposite of stand-up comedy. He's really underappreciated as an actor. He was also good in Dead Again, and even though it was pretty much universally panned, I liked him in What Dreams May Come.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) LMAO, Lindsey Lohan to serve 90 days in jail for violating probation. What does that equate to in LA, 13 minutes and 10 seconds? I was at the gym this morning, and they had Dan Abrams on as their "legal analyst", discussing the case. That guy (Abrams) is the perfect example of faux intelligence on television. He's a guy who is clearly a box of rocks, but thinks he's a genius. Anyway, he was explaining how this was clearly a very stiff penalty (she got 30 days in jail, 90 in forced rehab), for violating probation she got probation for a DUI, no jail time originally). Basically he said this was "celebrity justice" in that she got overpenalized. LOL, OK - she got out of a DUI, as a previous offender, with NO JAIL time, then violated probation... and 30 days in jail is overzealous?
  13. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) Ok, so I've had the Incredible for around 2-3 months now and not had any issues. Recently I've been having issues with battery life. At first I was convinced it was just an app that was draining the battery on me. I deleted numerous apps, checked to see if it was the issue with the phone not going to "sleep" when idle, factory reset twice and still it won't hold a charge. I had it sit on the charger all night last night and it was at about 65% when I woke up this morning. By the time I got to work (40 minutes later) it was alreadf into the low 20% range. Anyone encountered anything like this at all? I'm wondering if it's just a bad battery, the phone or something else. I'm tempted to take it in to the store tomorrow. Yeah, if it can't charge past 65% overnight (I assume you turned the phone off for that), then its a bad battery.
  14. Also... I assume we'll see Torres or Hudson called up for pen duty until the ASB, Peavy to DL, then Hudson taking Peavy's slot after the break until he's back.
  15. When I saw the injury, he went clearly for under his arm, and I remember thinking... please just be a strained lat. Thankfully, it appears that's the case. A strain to a large muscle is faster and more complete to heal than something in a joint, or with connective tissues. My fear was it could be his shoulder.
  16. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 7, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) Don't look now, but Juan Silverio is raking in the Pioneer League. After being demoted from Kanny, where he was awful. Still, better than being demoted and still sucking.
  17. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) OK so explain this. Ozzie today all but acknowledges that Lillibridge is going to be starting at 2B for the time being since he has the hot hand. Wouldn't NOW be the time to send Beckham down to AAA to get his act together? What are they waiting for? Before the argument was that there's not a suitable replacement. Now, he's not even starting, soooooo.... Or am I missing something? Ozzie didn't say Lillibridge would be starting. He said he'd be trying to get Lilli playing time, and said that Beckham is his 2B. Not sure where you are getting this.
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Trying to think of a bad Nolan movie? Following, Memento, Insomnia, Prestige, Begins, Dark Knight, I enjoyed them all. He did Insomnia? The one in Alaska with Robin Williams as the bad guy? I didn't know he did that one. Yeah, I liked all of those, though I haven't seen "Following".
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) You thinking about rooting your incredible? I'm tempted to try it on my EVO in the coming weeks when I'm on vacation. Battery life is markedly improved from what I've read. I don't even know what "rooting" means.
  20. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) Oh man, for me to type faster than on a regular keyboard would mean the phone had to be reading my mind or something. You have to think in Russian.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) The thought of Kotsay or Pierre in CF, even if only a few times, makes me want to cry. I still think we should DFA Jones ASAP, but I wanted to throw that concern out there as a consequence of such a move. I don't know, Kotsay is below average defensively in CF, but Rios hardly ever sits. Just not a big concern to me. Not sure how Pierre is out there defensively (CF I mean).
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) What the hell are they waiting for? The guy has been a disaster for over a month straight. A month isn't a lot, he didn't get a ton of at bats. I can see how they want to be patient, with the talent that guy has. But I think its getting close to the point where patience has to end, when Viciedo seems like he can at least do better than Jones already (more than likely - never know for sure of course). Rios plays almost every game, so I'm not overly concerned about having Kotsay play CF like 4 times the rest of the year. That would be the only reason I can see why Jones is still around, if he keeps up the awful hitting.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) But that's a huge concern for him at the major league level. Might be, unless they are specifically having Hudson work on something. Like, get ahead in the count, then try to do X. He is still developing, and they may be working on specific pitches with him.
  24. I am starting to wonder if maybe they DFA Jones, and keep Viciedo around as the RH DH and RH 3B (against Kotsay DH and Teahen 3B). Might not be the worst idea ever, as long as Viciedo is playing at least 50% of the time in total. That leaves Vizquel as your true backup IF, and Kotsay as the true backup OF, which I'm fine with.
  25. I understand giving Rios a night off, but Kotsay hitting 3rd? Come on. I am so tired of Ozzie's bizarre lineup antics.
