QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) The whole argument against Walmart in Chicago is just bananas!!! By the way, it looks like Walmart is indeed coming to Chicago, and not just one or two stores - a whole lot of them, and it has Daley's backing. That means its highly likely to make it through the City Council.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Love it. Still love seeing nontraditional matchups. Only slightly bothered by the unbalanced schedule. Right on. Loved it from when it first started. But I do wish they'd change it to a more NFL-like format. Play 2 against the rival, but then one series against each other team in one division each year, three year rotation.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Please. I complain about my bosses all the time. That doesn't change how I perform my job duties. If you were a VP at a major corporation, and you and your cohort VP's were quoted in the paper saying these things about your CEO to a person you knew to be reporting on it, you'd be fired. And should be.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) I had a weird dream that said Jenks was selected for the All-Star team...... ??? Obviously he won't be, but I thought that was weird to have a dream about.... Maybe you should start calling him CoLd FiRe. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) Well, it's not the record any more, and that wasn't a very good team either. LOL -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) With this current defensive setup, minus Quentin, just about every White Sox defender is either above average or around average. Pierre is a +9 in LF. Rios is a +7 in CF. Alexei is a +6 at SS. Gordon is a +2 at 2B. Vizquel is a +3 at 3B. Konerko is currently a -4 and Quentin is a -13 in RF, but overall, this current defense is actually above average. And I'd say Konerko is actually better than that number as well. Quentin is the only real laggard on the field right now, as far as I can see. Maybe AJ.

I wasn't on this bandwagon before, but I think I am now. Send Beckham down to hopefully right himself, play Viciedo at 3B and Viquel at 2B until Teahen's return. Then re-evaluate.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) Apparently it's his favorite beer. Fire him!!! Seriously, that's not even beer, its something 19 year old college girls drink.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) Supposedly, a lot of the quotes came about when McCrystal's aides, McCrystal, and the reporter were delayed by the volcano canceling a flight, and a case of bud light lime was broken out. Well, drinking Bud Light Lime should also be a firing offense, so get rid of his ass.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) And one more thing, this stretch of baseball is the best all-around Sox stretch I've seen since we came from behind to streak our way into the playoffs in 2008. We didn't play this good the entire 2009 season IMO, and most of 2008 either. Certainly not 2007. If we keep playing like this we'll be playing the best ball we've played since at least 2006. Speaking of which... When was the last time the Sox won 7 straight? I assume you have to go back to the 8 straight they won, multiple times, in 2005.

I am sure that military leaders talk like this all the time, but you don't do it in the press, as lf said. Just plain stupid, and I really think McChrystal has to go.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 07:44 AM) Jenks was not facing the tying run, but still got the save? Save is tying run in the hole or closer, not tying run at the plate necessarily.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) Winston-Salem... to be tutored by Bobby Thigpen. He was interviewed on the radio last night, happened to catch it in the car. Kind of funny, Sale brought up that he'd be tutored by Thigpen... DJ said something about, yeah, that Thigpen guy, he had 57 saves that one year, not bad... Sale says yeah, that's OK I guess. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) Even still, his argument is that the Obama administration acted "arbitrarily and capriciously" in shutting down drilling operations with no link to the BP well, and I'd say that is an accurate description of a blanket moratorium. It's possible that the law may somewhere give the executive branch the ability to issue arbitrary and capricious orders like that, I'll defer to other legal experts, but the judge may well be right on the letter of the law. And of course, if it gets to the Supreme Court, he will become right on the letter of the law, because even if he's wrong, a 5-4 decision will overhaul the letter of the law. I'd bet it doesnt get that far. Instead, they will just narrow their scope and do what they can - not approve any new stuff, change the regulations for safety review, and cite a bunch of exploratory drilling cites to shut down temporarily. That way, nothing the courts can do to stop it.

Sox vs Atlanta 6-22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
NorthSideSox72 replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2010 Season in Review
I can understand not playing him every game - but I think 50% would be reasonable. No reason why he can't be worked in part at 3rd, a few games at DH, to get ~60% playing time. Playing him 1 out of 5 games is idiotic. -
Why is Randy Williams on this team?
NorthSideSox72 replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is apparently someone who can fill the LOOGY role nicely sitting in AAA, his name is Erick Threets. Putting up great numbers down there, he's a high velocity lefty who has had injury and control issues in the past, but has lots of talent. Seems like a Thornton-type story without the recovery, so maybe Coop can do some wonders. It appears he's done well in AAA so far even without that help. I am 100% in favor of waiving Williams and calling up Threets. -
Torres looked good. And De Aza has meant business since his return from the DL.

4-2 would be great for this week. Cubs are bad but the intercity series is always tougher than it would be otherwise. -
QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) First couple of negative reviews for Toy Story 3 although neither is from whom I would consider a real critic. Armond White apparently gave positive reviews to Land of the Lost, Transformers 2, the Last Song, Clash of the Titans, and GI Joe yet gave negative reviews to the Dark Knight, Iron Man, District 9, Up, Toy Story 3 and while I didn't like it that much Avatar. The guys a troll. The other critic apparently gave Marmaduke a positive review which alone gives him no credibility. LOL, seriously? And this guy gets his reviews published on RT?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) So, the Marlins organization gave out Vuvuzuelas to their fans prior to last nights game against the Rays. Needless, to say it did not sit well with the players: “That was the worst handout or giveaway I’ve ever been a part of in baseball,” said Dan Uggla, who wore earplugs. “This isn’t soccer. I know the World Cup is going on but this is baseball.” http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/...lins_vuvuzelas/ The Marlins are basically a minor league franchise when it comes to marketing. They are perpetually at or near the bottom of baseball in attendance, sometimes thousands below any other team per game. They have games where like 500 people show up. They have to try to pull s*** out of their rears to get people to come out to a game. Which is why it still amazes me that they managed to get a new, publically funded stadium approved.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 12:32 PM) The last person I have heard about being release is Harughty. Chase is in the shower and on his way to practice after that so the soonest I could let you know anything would be tonight! Now that is some in-depth reporting! -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) I keep waiting for him to move up. I expected him to make the bullpen later on in the season if he pitched well. So far the Sox have been relatively patient with him. If all goes well, I would be surprised if he didn't break camp in our pen next spring. Nice to have him and Santos because that would give us two cheap relievers with the ability to be above average. Bellamy needs to at least pitch a half season in AA before I'd consider him any sort of possibility for the 2011 Opening Day roster. I was saying earlier this season, I'd like to see the trio in the back of the W-S bullpen (Bellamy, Infante, Remenowsky) all promoted to AA during the season. Infante has hit a rough patch lately though.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) At least we didn't pull a Chicago Cubs. They certainly went cheap in the 1st round: Still seems like such a strange pick to me. A guy who was thought to be in rounds 5-10 at best, going 16th overall? Did they see something no one else did?
