  1. Beating Strasburg seems to be about two things - patience, and hitting a serious heater. The first part, this team's not too good at. The second, they are. I say we put up 3 runs on him, maybe add 1-2 to the WAS bullpen. So we need to keep the Nats to 4 runs max.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) But kap's been saying that Obama is deliberately letting things get worse in just about every situation. Yeah, but you didn't see Jas agree with those statements.
  3. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) IMO this move is going to result in either Pk, andruw, or Q being moved soon. I think that's unlikely. We had Nix and Lillibridge both on the team as reserve infielders, we simply didn't need both. Might as well get a look at your future talent, and add a potentially powerful bat, especially for playing interleague games with some pinch hitting opportunities. We may move some of those guys, but this is not related to that, IMO.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Currently 56 reviews up for Toy Story 3 on rottentomatoes and everyone of them is positive. Now 114 reviews, still 100% positive. That's pretty amazing.
  5. This WAS team isn't as bad as people are making them out to be. They are also 18-12 at home. They are not in the same category as PIT. I'd be very happy with taking 2 of 3.
  6. More Sharon Angle. When Reid is re-elected easily in November, the Dems should thank the Tea Party. This candidate they put up there is drowning, she's apparently incapable of a coherent thought.
  7. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) If the Big 12 takes one school from the Mountain West, it HAS to be BYU. Just curious... why? Strength in football?
  8. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) Pac-12 is official with the addition of Utah. Makes me wonder if Air Force, Colorado State, UNM or some other Mountain West school splits for the Big 12.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) Charlotte's pretty shorthanded as it is, this leaves them with three open roster spots. I doubt any other players are involved. He may have wanted to return to starting and they gave him the opportunity elsewhere. Yeah, Whisler isn't netting us anything of value. The three open roster spots at Charlotte should probably mean some shuffling about to occur in our system - promotions up the chain.
  10. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 10:17 PM) ND would never join the Big 12 I think because if they are forced join a conference they're going to try and keep as many of their rivalries as possibly and they don't have any rivalries with a big 12 school. Speaking of that, interesting trivia... ND has played every school in the Big 12 at least once, except one - Iowa State.
  11. Whisler had near-zero value, I doubt we get anything back beyond cash considerations, future considerations, or maybe some very low level prospect.
  12. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) This is just a great idea. CNET Well that is just a horrifically bad idea.
  13. If Peavy doesn't go to the DL, but Hudson is coming up... this may be their way of switching out Williams for Threets while also covering Peavy for a start. Williams released, Hudson in, then Hudson gone and Threets in.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Disbarment wouldn't be a court process. You mean debarment. Disbarment is a different legal term.
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) Did you know that women are legally allowed to be topless in public in the states of Texas, Hawaii, Ohio, Maine, and New York? And Colorado, and other states as well. Most of the time, public indeceny laws are local, not state. So its a matter of what city and county you are in, more than the state.
  16. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) Nix is the better overall player and thats not saying much... The only think Nix is better at is defense at 2B. Offensively, and at 3B defensively, I'd take Iwamura by a long shot.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 11:59 AM) Pinto has very bad control...he's better than Williams, but that's not saying much. Also, it's interesting reading Reds message boards. They are freaking out about their starting pitching. Can't really blame them, as they're screwed if Volzquez can't return. Let's just bring up Threets.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) I don't get it. Notre Dame's academic standards really aren't that amazing. I might offend some ND grads here, but they are the midwest version of USC. It is an expensive school but much easier to get into than some of the good and even decent public institutions. And there MBA program in terms of the grades/etc you need to get in is a joke. ND is academically well above any school currently in the Big 12.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 12:01 PM) You'd be awesome if you used this: LOL, what the hell is that?
  20. Yeah, people in the UK who seem to be personally offended by this, as if it was US vs UK, can go f*** themselves. No one is upset at the UK as a country, hell a lot of people probably think its an American company. They are upset at BP, not B.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) Well, we have terrible regulation for a variety of reasons. But you don't blame the effect for the cause. If BP wasn't a crappy company, they won't need such tight oversight. Government failed here, sure, but the root cause is still BP. That's my point. TO be clear Jas, I completely agree that the US government's oversight of these operations, as well as the slow and inept response to the disaster, have been awful. They too displayed incompetence top-down. but make no mistake, BP caused this, and it wasn't just some aberrant event. It was the result of documented, systemic corporate culture that has gone decidedly down the wrong path. At this point, in addition to making BP pay for this huge mess, I want to see the US government do four things: 1. Begin debarment of BP from everything and anything they reasonably can (they can't do it all, certain areas are just too dependent on them). This will send a HUGE message to oil companies on the need to change their behavior. 2. Flush out and re-tool the MMS, replacing basically all top level people and anyone found to be complacent in these safety checks. 3. Suspend all NEW offshore drilling for quite a while, possibly permanently, but at least until the safety regulations and mechanisms can be cleaned up. 4. Come up with solid contigency and communication plans for future oil/gas disasters.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) Technically, BP could have sat back, told the US gov to f*** off, and went to court. They didn't have to put down 20B of there own money in this mess. Sure they f***ed up and acted negligently and ignored warnings signs but just because something happened at one location in the entire world, doesn't necessarily mean BP is a crappy company and that upper management is full of dumbasses, etc. BP is a good, incredibly successful company that made a mistake. In the past few years, something like 95% of all the safety violations handed out to all oil companies by the US went to BP. So, yeah, the ARE a s***ty company, top-down.
  23. Done it twice, the whole thing both times (all 7 days, all miles, no bus rides for me): 2003 and 2007. Its a blast, I hope to get back to it again some year. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) I think any replacement for Nix should come from within our own farm system. If we see continued development of someone like Morel than maybe Teahan becomes expendable next season? I wish we had kept Juan Uribe. Anyway that didn't happen and rather than sign someone elses castoffs let us look internally for replacements It was generally thought that CJ Retherford would be that guy after a strong 2009 campaign, but this year he struggled mightily in AAA and has been demoted to AA, so he's not an answer any time this season at least. Morel should not be rushed, he's still struggling a bit after his promotion, let him develop.
  25. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) Notre Dame seems pretty comparable to Nebraska. Fallen superpower. They wouldn't run the division. Though Notre Dame is stronger in basketball, and is worlds better academically. Not that any seems to give a s*** about the academics in all this.
