  1. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Honestly, I'm in the anybody who can help our offense camp. Either Berkman or LaRoche would probably be a lot better than Kotsay/Jones. One odd thing about LaRoche this year, is he's been significantly better against lefties than righties, which has not been his career trend.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) He's got a buyout and costs like $7 million for the rest of the year. His production wouldn't be much better than Adam LaRoche. See, I feel confident that Berkman will outproduce LaRoche significantly. But I realize its all subjective, none of us can say for sure. Certainly, if LaRoche can be had for much less in terms of prospects or trade pieces, I might go that way.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:40 AM) Anyone think Berkman could be a decent addition as a DH for the remainder of the year? He's still my top choice, but others will disagree. His 2010 numbers have been sub-par, but he's turned it on a bit lately. He can be had for a more reasonable price than Dunn, the Astros would be happy to get him off their books for the year. And I think he still has a lot of power and OBP capability that will show up beyond his year's numbers.
  4. Even if you believe the markets and the economy are headed for a double dip, the fundamentals and causation of the Great Depression are nothing like the problems we have right now. Two very different animals. This is why technical traders often get the short run right, but the long run wrong, and why technical trading is therefore much more useful for day traders. A big fall is of course possible, but these situations are very different.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 08:55 AM) .333/.469/.923/1.392 in his last 13 games. .923 SLG? Wow.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 01:40 AM) I won't get greedy. I'll take the Dye-like defense in RF if he gives us a .900+ OPS. He's not nearly as bad as Dye was in his last year or two.
  7. Well nevermind what I said earlier about Lillibridge. ugh.
  8. I can't believe I am saying this, but... Lillibridge really does look a lot better at the plate than he did last year or even in ST this year. Swing looks cleaner and shorter, better selectiveness at the plate. Of course I just typed that and he strikes out, naturally.
  9. Link to vote. Be Chicago. Vote early, vote often. Share updates here. Does anyone frequent the boards of any of the NL teams with candidates? Maybe we can do an agreement of some kind?
  10. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) I don't mind it. But the spell checker is a must. If I had to write more for business then I would probably prefer a physical board. I don't mind a spell checker, or suggestor, but it drives me nuts that it corrects words I type when I hit the space key to keep typing. Show me the suggestion, or highlight it, but don't make me go back and re-type all the damn time.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) I honestly don't get the fascination with touch-only phones...? Allows for more screen real estate without the bulk or size of a slider keyboard. Works fine for me on the Incredible, but the physical keyboard on my BB was fine too. Not a big difference to me either way.
  12. So when to the Ricketts tell Hendry to start selling off pieces? And are there any we'd want?
  13. The Royals series, for me, highlighted just how important one added bat could be for this team. We lost a close game where we had the tying runner on base, twice, late. Lost another one by one run, and again were threatening. Having one significantly improved bat could very well have made the difference in winning one of those, and 2/3 looks way better than 1/3.
  14. I grew up R/R, but then picked up hitting LH in high school, and am now better LH. Depends on the game though - I go LH for hard ball and 12", but usually RH in 16". My high school coach was fantastic, well known guy in IL HS baseball. When he got the freshman summer pre-camp in each year, he had all of us do an eye dominance test. Usually, your dominant eye is the opposite of your dominant hand. So for righthanded people, they are usually left eye dominant. But in my case, though I throw righthanded, I am right eye dominant - what this means is that, in terms of seeing the ball well, I'd be better off hitting LH. Anyone in the camp who had this happen, he put in a program to learn hitting from the other side. Worked for me. Also, I'm fairly ambidextrous. Last time I was at The Cell and did the radar gun, my LH throw was only 5 mph slower than RH, even though I've thrown RH my whole life. Maybe I should have been a lefty.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) I'm hoping when OS 2.2 comes around for both of us that there will be some noticeable improvements on battery performance. The EVO had an over the air update this past week and it seems like my battery has improved but I could always use a little more juice. I think they will. Watching that battery usage monitor, after I took down some hogging processes (bluetooth I don't use, GPS I rarely us and can one-click it back on, G-Talk whatever the hell that is), the biggest hog on the battery is "cell standby". Its not the screen or running programs anymore, its when it has to search for a cell signal, like when I'm inside a bldg with bad signal. No way that needs to take up that much power, hell my BB was used in the same locations with the same wireless provider and lasted me 3 days at a time. I'd bet they will find some processing efficiencies there.
  16. Other than the power issue, which I have been able to improve on with some tweaks an a stronger battery, I have so far LOVED my Android Incredible.
  17. Ace, that is awful, I hope he recovers quickly. I was coming in here to post something funny, now I feel weird about it. Or, maybe I should anyway. So I'm watching TV last night, and a commercial comes on. I thought, no way this is real, this has to be a parody or something. But no, its real, and its is both the funniest and most disturbing commercial I have ever seen. My wife and I couldn't stop laughing. Enjoy.
  18. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 08:11 AM) You can connect anything to cancer if you want to do so, via scientific studies or otherwise. If you don't believe me, go to WebMD and type in ** ANY ** ailment, and you can connect it to cancer of some sort in some way. Food, liquid, doesn't matter, in some way, shape or form, you can eventually connect it to cancer. Cancer simply happens, which is why Eskimos who have never smoked nor have been introduced to second hand smoke can still die of lung cancer. If it isn't milk, it's eggs, it's too many tomatoes, it's something. People need to stop worrying about what might happen in life and start living. Doing something excessively may raise the risk of certain cancers (like smoking everyday), but not doing them may not lower the risk at all. Unless you are eating asbestos, I wouldn't worry about cancer, because if your genetic code says you're going to get it...you are, even if you eat 50 tons of broccoli a day and never drank a glass of milk in your life. Over the years, I swear, every food we eat has been found by one study or another to both cause, AND prevent, cancer.
  19. Its only two games, but Petricka so far: 9 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 10 K, 3.25 GO/AO, .161 AvgA That's good.
  20. Daley has announced his plan. Details... I'm OK with most of these. Some exceptions... --Making it illegal to have a gun anywhere outside the home is wholly impractical. How do you get it to a range? Or a gun shop? That part will need tweaking. --The registering of specific guns I have a major problem with, as it cuts directly into the heart of why 2A exists.
  21. Balta, number of stores doesn't equal level of sales, or % of diet. Look at some of the s***ty neighborhoods in Chicago. There's a McD's every so often, just like the rest of the city, except there ISN'T also a bunch of healthier choices.
  22. Kila and Gordon are still in Omaha, waiting for a chance with someone. Still would love to get either or both, both for 2010 and the future. Either could be had for a lot less than Hudson+Flowers.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Yeah, I have no problem with requiring some sort of training course. Daley is saying that will be part of the City's new ordinance efforts. Heh. Ordinance. Anyway, what you will probably see here is Daley attempt to enact some labrynthine process for acquiring a handgun that will effectively keep almost anyone from getting one, and try to pass it off as a "resonable restriction". Then in 3 or 4 years, it will be brought to court, again.
  24. Did anyone see if Threet's fielding play made the ESPN Top 10 from last night's games?
