  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) Like it or not, either check the textbooks of the district your kid goes to or pay for a private school. Just no way around it any more. Texas doesn't think this country has enough Rand Paul's. With any luck, there'll be enough sane people in Texas to toss out half of the school board members there in elections later this year. Somehow though I doubts it. I read about this yesterday, and they said that two of the seats on that board will turn over to less conservative people in a period of a few months. So don't be surprised if these things get changed again. I read a long list of some of the changes they put in, and honestly, those people should be embarrased. This is again, what I have said before, there is a certain portion of the right (specifically the religious/social conservatives) who are not just ignorant and hateful... they EMBRACE ignorance and hate, as if they were good things. Its disgusting.
  2. W-S now up 13-3. Damn that team can hit, and with that Bellamy-Infante-Rem back end of the pen, they get a lot of leads and hold them. Short 2-3, HR, 2 RBI, BB, hitting .372.
  3. QUOTE (OilCan @ May 21, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) Regarding Megan Fox and T3.... http://www.vancouversun.com/entertainment/...2341/story.html LOL @: Ya don't say.
  4. Can someone tell my the etymology behind "Bolingbrook Bounce"? I see what it is (easy bounce for the fielder), but I don't get the reference that Hawk came up with.
  5. Buffalo leads Charlotte 3-1 in the 5th. Marquez pitching and getting hit a bit (7 H, 3 R in 4 IP), but also unfortunate with 2 UER. Lucy RBI double, Viciedo with a hit. Mobile beat B-Ham 4-0 in Game 1 of a DH. Edwards decent in his first AA start, nothing good on offense to note. Game 2 about to start, Long on the bump W-S up 5-3 in the 4th on Lynchburg. Sauer starting and has already given up 10 H in 4 IP, but somehow only 3 runs. Green with a 2B and a 3B, 2 RBI. Kanny leads Asheville in the 5th, 4-2. Collop on the mound, looks decent so far.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 21, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) http://mcclintock.house.gov/2010/05/respon...-calderon.shtml Except we do this: All the time, to lots of countries. I get it, Calderon's stance on this is hypocritical and misses the fact that the mess is mostly the doing of his country. I agree with that. But I also have no problem with him criticizing AZ's law for what it is - awful policy.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 21, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!!!!! With a fight that big and obvious, how does it take Security that long to get there?
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2010 -> 05:50 PM) In public, yes. In a school building, not if the school doesn't approve. Just like a workplace, it is their prerogative to create the sort of environment they want, and that they think is safe. I think this is a tough case though. The shirt isn't offensive - its a flag. For that matter, I don't care what country's flag it is, its still not offensive. I understand why schools are allowed to set rules like that, I just think the rules shouldn't allow them to be quite that sensitive about it. This doesn't teach kids how do deal with assholes, which they will encounter throughout their life - it teaches them that someone else will take care of that for them.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 21, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) So here's what those chemical dispersants do to marine life.... That's a turtle in case you couldn't make it out. Do we know that wasn't the oil? Not that its good one way or the other, just curious.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 21, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) who cares ? You think the guy wearing the jesus smokes bongs shirt wasn't being an ass? I agree with this. Yes, they were undoubtedly being asses. Yes, they should be allowed to do that, when all they were doing was wearing US flag t-shirts. If they had started verbally assaulting the Hispanic students or something like that, then that's another issue.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 21, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) *waits for the obligatory Kotsay comments* He actually looked OK at the plate last night.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) We f*ckin' suck. I am overwhelmed by the staggering profundity of yet another of your artfully crafted retorts.
  13. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) If it's that, then I saw it. I think the ball grazed the fingertips on his throwing hand. He was smarting after it happened. Was that before or after he got lit up in the game? Also, seems odd for an injury like that to land him on the DL, unless he broke a finger.
  14. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) It happened in 83, and will happen again in 2010. Let's have some faith! The incredible run begins tonight! :-) 83-39. Possible... incredibly unlikely.
  15. Looks to my untrained eye like there is a band of showers set to come through around 5:30pm, then another about 2 hours later, then clear. Weather.com says similar in its hour-by-hour. So I'd guess a delay, but not a rain-out.
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 21, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Charlie Shirek to the DL, Brandon Hynick takes his spot on the active roster. Charlie tried to field a screamer with his bare hand Wednesday and I think that's what his injury is. Ugh - let us know if you hear more about Charlie's injury.
  17. Serious question... I see Balta claiming that these programs are doing what they are supposed to for 90% of the people on them. And I see WCSox saying the opposite. I just did a little Googling, and I see a lot of conjecture out there in the ether as well, but I don't see anything substantive. The question is, what percentage is it really? How many people are gaming the system? Because neither of you are providing any data to support either claim.
  18. QUOTE (knightni @ May 14, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) If you get 50,000 visitors a year at $10 a pop plus concessions and souveniers, that can be $750k profit a year after bills...it could be in the black in 4 or 5 years if you get it for 2.5 mil. The Field of Dreams currently gets 65k visitors a year, but does NOT charge admission. They make money via margin on merchandise. And I doubt they clear $10 of profit per visitor on that. Many visitors won't even buy anything, and its awfully hard to put a $30 margin on t-shirts, which is what you'd need to do to clear that. If you start charging admission, attendance will undoubtedly plummet. I guarantee you the PP on this is more than 4-5 years at that price. Remember too you have not only "bills" for property taxes and what not, you also have the upkeep of a big property with multiple structures, insurance for a place where people play sports, and personnel costs for people who sell said t-shirts.
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 21, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) So which one of you is heading the Sickels MOD? I assume it's someone that posts here, but under a different name. What is a "Sickels MOD"?
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 21, 2010 -> 07:57 AM) To me it looks like the Matrix meets Johnny Pneumonic. And I am not saying that is a bad thing I was thinking The Matrix meets The Cell, which would be a good and bad thing.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ May 19, 2010 -> 11:54 AM) I have no clue what Inception is about but that is what I like about it. Going to try and stay away from reviews as well until I see it. I saw a new trailer for it the other day, that came out earlier this month. I hadn't realized how many big names there were in the cast, outside of just DiCaprio. There are 4-5 names that have been nominated for or won Academy awards of one kind or another. Other names in the movie include Ken Watanabe, Michael Caine, Tom Berenger, Marilon Cottilard, and Ellen Page. Very interested to see how this movie turns out.
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ May 20, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) He hit 98 out of the pen recently. Wow, I didn't know he had that kind of gas.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ May 19, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) I didn't even realize Gregory Infante is closing now. Pretty good season for the Dash. I'd like to see Bellamy up in Birmingham soon too. He's got that side arm thing going. W-S is going closer-by-committee: Infante, Remenowsky, and occasionally Bellamy. The combined line of those three relievers in that 20 inning affair: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 9 K. One of Bellamy or Remenowsky will get promoted to AA during the season, I'd bet on it. I wish I knew more about Infante's stuff - kind of surprised they converted him from starter last year to closer this year.
  24. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) Damn, not nearly as many as I thought for 2010. You made my point. Only one post making this argument - that the danger of spills or leaks are reason (among others I've mentioned before) to get off oil. Of course I repeat my point about alt energy, clearly its something I believe in. But that post you responded to was the first time I had made this argument - the topic at hand.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 19, 2010 -> 06:15 PM) All that and his era went UP to 1.70. Yeah, Shirek had a sub-1 ERA in mid-May. That wasn't going to last, he was due to get beat up soon.
