QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) You can ban a fan from coming to the park. Its just very hard to actually try and enforce it. Exactly. Its called a Trespass Order, or a Red Line. Its just nearly impossible to enforce in a situation like this.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) I think Farmio said last night that it's something like a $2000 auto-fine. That, the beating they will certainly receive from security, and a night in jail ought to be enough of a deterrent, but here we are. And having a conviction for criminal trespass (and possibly other charges), and not being allowed into the park again ever. Even all that won't stop that 1 idiot.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 11:02 AM) What the...why? I know it may shock you, but that event wasn't something anyone wanted to have happen, in the way it happened.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Yeah, the President only has so much impact on job numbers. Still, after a legitimately positive month...this graph looks even better. Which shows that March was also revised up above 200k job growth.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) I agree. Unless Q and Beckham start rolling, it makes no sense to try to play for this season. I find it incredibly unlikely that those two keep hitting near .200, nor will Pierre for that matter.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) Its not just a function of hitting. He still has 24 K against 2 BB, and he needs to improve his plate discipline. I should note though, in his last 10 games, he has only 4 K's in 37 AB, for a 10.8% rate, which is fine. Much better than the 31.7% he was at before then.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) If he keeps hitting, why would we be angry about a September callup? Its not just a function of hitting. He still has 24 K against 2 BB, and he needs to improve his plate discipline.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) Surprised it hasn't been mentioned, but Peavy was on the Score a couple days ago and implied that the Sox had been tinkering with his delivery, and he basically had to regain his mechanics. B&B surmised that they may have tried to take some stress off the arm, but that just isn't the way he pitches. We will see, but he might be fine from here on out. It has been mentioned in PHT somewhere before.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 7, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) How much of that was census? 231,000 were private sector jobs - so at most, about 50k. Still well above concensus expectations for the private market.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 7, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) Unemployment rate is up to 9.9% BUT 290,000 new jobs in April! People jumping back into the job market now, since its improving. This will be the theme for a while I think - net job addition, but steady UE rates.

GT: Blue Jays @ White Sox, Fri 5/7, 7:10pm CT

Perhaps they didn't hear me the first time, when I prompted a 3 game winning streak. So let's see if I can do it louder... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!! MB is either injured, or he's going to turn it around. I vote for the latter. -
QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 6, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) That was a crash supported by the gov't. Anything else is spin, IMO. LOL Yeah no. Wish I could say more, can't.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) There have already been reports of people going back to their homelands because of troubles finding a job in this recession. There is no reason to think that wouldn't happen to a larger extent if we cleaned up our employers. And this I wholeheartedly agree with - enforcement on businesses is a key piece to any useful legislation in immigration reform. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) Sure, more money would actually stay in the country. IIRC Mexico's second biggest money maker behind petroleum is people sending dollars back to Mexico from the US. I think it was something like $20 billion a year. I'll bet that could generate a few jobs here too. That is also part of the picture. But its not as if all the illegal immigrants do is mail their checks back home - they spend here too, and pay sales taxes. I'm just saying I think its funny to see people in this debate only look at one side of the ledger or the other, instead of both. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) No we wouldn't, because we wouldn't have the extra 15 million or so people here. To be fair though, you also wouldn't have those 15 million consumers in the economy - buying products and paying sales taxes. So while some costs would undoubtedly shrink, so would some business and government revenues. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) So what's the point with arguing in the 1st place? Just because you can annoy someone doesn't mean you should. Again, not like you haven't done similar things. We only step in back here as admins or mods when it gets really bad, like attacks thrown directly at another poster. Plus its really easy to solve the problem in this case.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 5, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) A source tells Mike Salk of 710 ESPN in Seattle that Milton Bradley left the team in the middle of Tuesday's game against the Rays. Bradley was frustrated after striking out looking with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning. He yelled at the umpire from the bench until Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu warned him to settle down. Just minutes later Bradley reportedly told Wakamatsu, "I'm packing my stuff. I'm out of here." Mariners General Manager Jack Zduriencik didn't address the matter specifically on Wednesday, other than to say something that happens between the manager and his players should be handled internally. We're guessing that Wakamatsu might not have to worry about Bradley much longer. So Byrnes, then Bradley? SEA shedding its baggage. Just curious... do typical major league contracts have some sort of clause in them, where if the player fails to be present for "work", they don't have to be paid?

QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:00 PM) he got a couple of walks last night & a nice hit later in the game last night but Beckham is hitting different...Beckham has widened his natural stance & swing. I'm not saying Greg Walker is to blame, but someone should tell him to start with his feet closer together. Watch tonight, he takes a practice cut with his regular swing & then he moves into the batters box with his legs bent & almost pigeon toed. Anyone else notice? So, Beckham struggles, Walker works with him on a solution, and the solution appears to be starting to work... and you think this reflects badly on Walker? This doesn't make any sense to me. I think Walk should have been fired a while ago, along with the other staff responsible for prepping hitters, but the example you give is actually something that Walker did right.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) Actually, for everything other than work travel, I walk or ride my bike, especially for neighborhood type distances. Of course this doesn't apply to my camping trips, which often involve state to state driving. But in relation to that, I also tent camp or backpack, no trailer homes or crazy amenities to make life easier on the road. My commute to work is 35 minutes by car, it's well over an hour by bus/train, it's just not worth it for me, especially considering I get a huge parking discount. BS, this is what I am talking about - he doesn't even disagree with you as much as you think he does.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) Aren't there anti trolling policies in the buster? If you want us to enforce them that stringently, some of your one-liners would get the same treatment. Y2HH is a poster much like people we've all met - the ones who argue by trying to find your soft spots, and then poke at them until you get yourself in a tizzy. Note that he didn't criticize your view on mass transit at all, by the way. Just asserted his own methods.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 5, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) I think he meant up to that point. Even so, some people's schadenfeude when it comes to the Cubs is pretty absurd. If your greatest moments of relief and joy surround watching some team you don't like lose a baseball game, it may be time to re-evaluate things.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) I also like the freedom to breathe clean air and have clean water. God forbid some lazy asses actually walked to the corner of the street to drop something in the mailbox. Dude, he's just trying to get your goat, and you keep falling for it.
