QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:57 AM) The skirt's OK. It's the go-go boots I'm worried about. But that's what keeps the ticks away.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) I dunno, I find it hard to believe an outdoorsman would use the word "Blouse" The verb, not the noun. Are you saying I shouldn't be hiking around in the woods with a miniskirt anymore? You can't take that away from me!

I will definitely say that, as bad as this team is right now, its still immensely more talented and capable of coming back than the great majority of teams I watched in the 80's, and late 90's.

QUOTE (Soxy @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) So, I went for a hike yesterday and the ticks were out of control! I hate ticks. I hate them so much. Does anyone have any good techniques for not getting ticks? I hate them. The north woods are a bad place for that, you will get ticks if you spend time in the backcountry, period. Just need to do a check when you come back. Luckily, Lyme Disease is still rare in that part of the country, but you can still get it (from Deer Ticks, which are the smaller ones that you can barely see). Here are some tips from an outdoorsman: --Blouse your pants into your boots/shoes/socks --Wear thick socks --Use a heavy-deet insect repellant like Muskol (the stuff that says don't use on furniture or painted surfaces), not the weak "Off" stuff, and use it particularly on your legs and arms. --Try to avoid brushing up against plants and shrubs when you can --Try not to sit on the ground much If you actually get a tick, use a real tick remover if you can find one - if you pull out out with tweezers or by hand, try to get as much of it out as you can. If you leave part of it in there, you can still get disease from it.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers

QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) I do. Come here and become one of us. That was once enough for people...now it's not. They want to come here with all of our rights, and privileges, but they refuse to accept who they are now, embracing a past that wasn't good enough for them in the first place. I know it's a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things...but it still annoys me. You lost me on this one. Why is it a problem for people to fly a flag that isn't a US flag? Walk into my home, and on the wall you will find a family crest and a family history scroll from Ireland. Does that make me less American? I think not. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) ^^And what would you do if that was your family? (Y2HH) "Sorry honey. We'll have to stay here and get killed my the drug cartel. I wouldn't want to impose on anyone by moving 100 miles north." I am sure Y2HH would do the same thing you would do, and that anyone else would do. He wasn't saying otherwise. What he's saying - and I agree - is that there are far more problems like that in the world than can be solved by the US simply being OK with everyone flooding in. We have to bite off chunks at a time, and when the flood gets too fast in some area (MEX>US in this case), you have to slow it down for your own good. You don't do that, you can't help anyone anymore, not even your own citizens. Those situations are awful, I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and it should make us think twice about making these illegal aliens out to be some sort of monsters. They are not, at all. They should be treated humanely. But they are still here illegally, they still cost the country money, and they still need to be addressed for their effect on the country. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ May 10, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) I bought a CFL bulb last week and it blew out already. What in the f***... I know it has a warranty but you need to keep the box (I actually did) AND the proof of purchase. Who actually keeps proof of purchase on a light bulb? I must have 20 or 30 CFL bulbs in my house, when one is bad that's just money down the s***ter. I noticed this oddity with CFL's - I replaced pretty much every bulb in my house with those a few years ago. One blew out within a week or two, the others have all lasted 3 years or so and are still going fine. That seems to be the deal with CFL's, they either blow out early, or last forever. Fortunately, its usually the latter.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 10, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) So, are Gilmore & Short legit prospects now? Gilmore always was, he's young and talented, just inconsistent. Short might be marginal, but he's also still quite young, so he's looking good, and I would guess you will see him start to show up on Top 25 lists now. -
So, Winston-Salem is good at baseball. Shoemaker heating up a bit lately - will he continue to surprise this year?
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 10, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) I wouldn't say they "murder" him. He's very hit or miss against the Twins, either he's great or horrible. Dating back to 2006 he's had 9 good outings and 8 bad outings against he Twins. When he was good he was very good (typically early in the year) and when he was bad he was real bad (typically later in the year). I recall, I think it was 2006 or 2007, MB gave up something like 7 runs in the first inning - stayed in the game - and beat the Twins.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 10, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Might be Shelby moving up, if De Aza is going to be out for any length of time. Actually I take that back, more likely to be Coats. -

QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 10, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) RHP Justin Cassel to the DL, RHP Deunte Heath added to Barons roster, Alejandro De Aza to the DL, no one has taken the open roster spot in Charlotte. Kannapolis has an open roster spot as well. Might be Shelby moving up, if De Aza is going to be out for any length of time. -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 10, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) I'm not sure I would feel a lot better if the Sox took two in Minnesota. They'll still have so much ground to make up. I think the only thing that saves this team is if they rip off something insane like 10 in a row, and Minnesota plays .500 during that stretch. Then they'll at least be back in the conversation. Otherwise... BLOW IT UP!!! Winning 2 in Minny would be big for this team. Not only is it 2 games closer in the standings, but I think it would be huge psychologically for a team that is obviously not all on the same track.

QUOTE (CSF @ May 9, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Shirek sporting a 0.71 ERA through 6 starts, nice. The 1.18 BB/9 is also nice. The 5.21 K/9 is not. The other key stat to look at with Charlie is GB:FB, which is 2.38 for him (62 GB, 26 FB), and that's a great number. Further, the 22:5 K:BB is nice. But he's definitely not missing as many bats as you'd like to see - though 5.21 is an improvement over the 3.2 he was at in B-Ham last year.

What a disaster this rotating DH NL lineup idea is...

Radar makes it seem a line of rain developed that is over the SW suburbs and southern part of the city - might or might not be over the Cell. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Is this game even going to get in? Dunno how it looks at the Cell, but where I'm at, it is raining hard. Really? Hasn't rained of any significance downtown all afternoon. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) How about just running a bunch of barbed wire along the walls surrounding the field. You joke, but if people start doing this more often, one of the things that teams will consider is putting up higher fencing or netting all around the field.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) If someone ran out on the field and was beaten with a baton, you would think of that as an appropriate response? Nope. Not sure a taser was either, but taser is below blunt weapon force on the continuum for a reason. Tasers don't do permanent damage under 99.9% of circumstances, where as a baton will bruise or break things most of the time. You are kind of making my point for me that a taser isn't some awful torture technique when used to subdue someone.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Ugh With PK hurt, Kotsay only makes sense. But I really don't think that sitting Beckham is going to help him out of a slump. He has reached a point where he is playing around with things, and he'd eventually click. He needs at bats. -
QUOTE (chwhtsox @ May 7, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) not only is the electricity painful, when they detach the prongs it's just as painful if not more. Its uncomfortable, but frankly, its less painful than OC spray, or being strongarmed, or beaten with a baton.

What was KW's best post 2007 season move?
NorthSideSox72 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sort of strange to have Viciedo and Swisher as the same vote item, since they had nothing to do with each other. Beckham, Q, Santos and Rios are all good votes, though Beckham wasn't really a "move" by KW. I'm actually surprised no one has voted for Alexei yet, he was a damn good pickup too. -
QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) On a serious note, there was a violent protest at the school today demanding the US flag not be allowed. Mexican flags flying, vandalism, attacks. Basically proving AZ did the right thing LOL, idiots being idiots proves that other idiots must be right?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:03 PM) Running a surge of electricity across a person's body with the point of causing extreme pain isn't? No, not at all. The point isn't pain, and really it isn't that painful. The point is causing the subject to be unable to resist because their muscles are temporarily freaked out.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Because if there's one thing that we know works to keep people off the field, it's torture. There wasn't anyone on the field the night after the tasering in Philly. Torture? Really?
