QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) Does that count as a book?

Jimmy Carter is a good person who was a lousy President.

QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) Teahan is my favorite player to heckle. Occasionally get some first row tickets down the right field line from a season ticket holder and for the last 2 years I've been yelling at him asking when he's going to develop corner power, have actually drawn some looks from the guy. That being said, he's overpriced for what he is. So you're the fan that 95% of the fanbase hates sitting next to, then? The guy who heckles incessantly for no good reason?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) InsideTheSox They often will post lineups hours before game time. I have that one sent to my phone Agree, that one is good.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 07:44 PM) The problem with Getz is, he's not versatile. Ramirez, Beckham, Nix, and Fields are. I'll point out for the second time today, this is not true. Getz played 4 positions in Charlotte last year, he played more SS than 2B when he first got to the minors. He is indeed versatile, but they haven't moved him yet with the big club. In fact he is significantly more versatile than Fields, I'd say.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) She's credited with a "Cap and Trade" Op-Ed piece in today's Washington Post. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...9071302852.html I read the piece. It might have been useful if she had bothered to share one shred of evidence to back up her claims about the unemployment that would supposedly result from this plan. She didn't even try - just laid out her personal beliefs, with no backing whatsoever. And then she claims the $4.2B in the bill for unemployment as a sign of her truthiness - except of course that money is for education and training, which, duh, will be needed for ANY transition to new technologies. She makes it sound like a reparations fund. Sort of funny that she opens the article by opining about the media (which she is using) paying attention to fluff and not weighty economic matters, then she fails entirely to make any sort of substantive economic argument. Go. Away. Please.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) How is Getz "well suited" to a UTIL role when he can only play 1 position? Thats what Nix is for. He actually played 2B, 3B, LF and SS at Charlotte last year. And he played more SS than 2B his first minor league season, and a bunch at SS his second year too. He just hasn't been moved around yet on the big club. But he can indeed play other positions.

I tried Cowley's twitter for a while, but I just couldn't stand his incessant whining and sarcasm. There is like 5% useful information and 95% Joe Cowley's brain in there, and I just couldn't take it. Had to turn it off. By the way, look for Mark Gonzales (the Trib equivalent of Cowley, Sox beat writer), to have his own Twitter soon, which is likely to be a lot less noisy.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) I can't be the only one who didn't know who the f*** Shawn Johnson was before opening this thread? I'm there with ya. But I'm happy to have seen her now.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 02:29 PM) It should just be illegal to name someone Lance. Whats the point really LOL, was this intentional? If so, very well done.

Charlotte is off. Southern League All Star game, lots of Barons were invited, but some (like Cook) can't play due to promotion. Retherford and Gartrell in the starting lineup, Jordan Danks is on the bench, not sure of any pitchers that might be on there. W-S is off. Kanny with an early 1-0 lead, Leesman starting, and CARLOS QUENTIN IS AT DH FOR KANNY. Must be getting him reps with the Knights off. Great Falls starts at 8:05pm @ Orem, no idea on pitcher. Bristol up 3-1 in the 4th, Serafin finally gave up a run, so far 4 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:32 AM) Aside from the Phoenix Coyotes has any other major sports franchise ever filed for bankruptcy? I'd have to think so, but I don't know for sure.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:43 AM) So far she's spent the time since her "Resignation" giving press interviews and using things like Facebook messages to bash the press and the have a verbal duel with her daughter's baby-daddy. I'd be more than happy to believe that she actually did this for her family...she just has to start acting like it. If she does, I'll be content to never think of her again. Exactly. I'd have all the respect for her decision to protect her family, if, she was actually protecting her family. She is quite clearly not.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) I'm gonna guess Cole gets put on waivers or something. We likely want to clear that spot on the 40. But, despite the fact that I am a pretty big Donny Lucy fan, I am starting to think it might be better to have Armstrong take the driver's seat for the backup job behind Flowers (over Lucy). He has hit better (not saying much), and hits the oppo side, which Ozzie will like.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) I know it is. It's an extention of the START treaty that is set to expire Dec. 5. They were talking about how they could use some executive orders to get around this until the Senate passed the treaty if they needed to. It's a formality, of course they'll pass it (which is completely fine) - so they need to get about it just to prevent some sort of "power grab" from the executive. I mean think of the blaspheme if a Republican did this. Just sayin'. The main point is you need this check that is in the constitution adhered to - so just get it done, no big deal, without regard to party. If this indeed an extension or addition to START, then you are correct, he's evading the Constitution here by not going before the Senate. But if, as I said earlier, it was just a mutual understanding with no intention of force of law, then he doesn't need to do that. Its a fuzzy but important distinction.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) My 1st post in the Buster in months ... but if my family had been raked over the coals like Palin's has I'd bail out too. She has her priorities right. Family first, career a distant second. I agree 100% with the first line - the treatment people in her position get would be very hard on a family. But I couldn't disagree more with your second line. Her behavior has made it abundantly clear she didn't do this for her family, as has been described previously. She loves the show, she created the circus act and begs the media to follow her on her family vacations. She wants what she is getting - lots of attention.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) What happens with those two is obviously secondary. Well sure, they're both backup material at best anyway. But that doesn't mean it isn't worth discussing.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Whoa, put on the brakes. The last time this happened, two weeks later, the guy was traded... The time before that, two weeks later, he was in the majors.

Crain's is reporting that the Cubs may file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, in order to speed the sale of the team and shelter themselves from TribCo liabilities. Seems to me like an abuse of Chapter 11, as they intentionally kept the Cubs out of the TribCo filing, and the Cubs do not have material reason for bankruptcy in their own books. But whatever.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) So who would play first when Konerko is off? That doesn't make any sense to me. Well, I'm sure a guy like Nix COULD play 1B, so could Dye, but neither of them are going to be particularly good over there right now. Plus with Beckham struggling a bit defensively, Fields' ability to play 3B as a backup also becomes important. This all really makes no sense. If they keep Wise and send down Fields, giving them 2 backup OF's and just Nix for the entire IF, I will not be happy. -
So now, what happens with Armstrong and Lucy? Cole has been on fire with the bat lately, and has gotten his season numbers to a respectable level, which is impressive considering where they were in April and May. Lucy has had a few good games lately too, but he's behind Cole at the plate. Armstrong hits left, which would be more ideal to back up Flowers, but Lucy hits righty, more ideal to back up AJ. Its possible one of them will be dealt or released. Its also possible Armstrong goes down to AA to get regular reps, so he can become Flowers' backup, and allow Lucy to work with Flowers on defense. Or, given Lucy is struggling so badly at the plate, maybe its Lucy who gets demoted. ???

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) I'm sorry but a 60-70% CQ = 100% Wise Funny you say that, because the Trib is making it sound like when TCQ comes back, it may not be Wise, or even Anderson, that is out of a job... but Fields. I don't get it. -
For those curious on the hybrid topic, the last of the Japanese companies to not have a hybrid in production or close to it, Subaru, will be entering that market in 2011. That makes all 4 of the big Japanese makers in that market by 2011.
