  1. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Agree with most of this, maybe besides releasing Colon, not sure if the organization will do that. I'm fairly certain the organization won't do MOST of what I am suggesting. Just saying what I would do. What they actually will do will undoubtedly be very different.
  2. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I knew you were going to get a sneak a plug for Kroeger in there somewhere. LOL, of course! But really that is a small move, the rest are more important. Its not April anymore, its early going on mid June, and its time to make a play.
  3. I like Getz, but his head is just not anywhere near where it should be right now. his issues aren't mechanical like Fields', they are mental, IMO. I rarely do this, but, here is my "if I was KW/Ozzie" laundry list of things to happen in the next week... --Getz back to AAA to get his head back on straight --Beckham (who should not have been called up yet, but he's here, so he needs to play) moves to 2B --Fields starts at third, we'll see if he can keep up the improvements --TCQ back from DL --Wise DFA/release --Gobble DFA/release or possibly AAA --Contreras returns from AAA (gonna happen anyway) --If Contreras looks good, then release Colon (who has nothing left), and bring up C. Torres for the pen (and to back up Contreras' slot) --Pods starting in CF (can't believe I am saying that, but, he has been a pleasant surprise), Anderson 4th OF and defensive replacement --Kroeger up from AAA (that makes the bench Anderson (all OF), Nix (3B-SS-2B), Kroeger (corner OF, 1B) and Castro ©, which I think covers everything) --Greg Walker fired (won't happen, and no I am NOT saying he's entirely to blame, but I think its necessary at this point) --Promote Allen, Cook, Danks2, Omogrosso, possibly Retherford to AAA, to be ready to step in if necessary Do these things now, play out June, and see where the team is at. If we can compete, great. If not, you are staged for the youth movement. Fire away.
  4. Sauer's peripherals are redonkulous. In 39 IP he has 46 K and ONE WALK. 46:1 is, I think, a pretty good ratio. So I hear. He also has a 3.67 GO/AO. And by the way, of his 10 ER given up this season so far, half were in one game, where he lasted 0.2 IP (back when he was in the pen). Remove that one outing and he has a 1.17 ERA. He's been very good so far as a starter too - 0.62 ERA. This guy should be popping up on a lot of radars now, if he wasn't before.
  5. Charlotte wins their Game 1 9-1, Egbert goes 6 strong, Ward and Kroeger HR's. Charlotte Game 2, rained out Montgomery @ B-Ham, 7:05pm CT, Poreda with the start Winston-Salem tied 1-1 in 5th with Kinston in their Game 1, Hudson very good so far through 5 IP - 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K W-S Game 2 to follow, ACarter pitching WV @ Kanny postponed, the red hot Stephen Sauer would have started for the Intimidators.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) Kelvin Jimenez was outrighted off the 40 man roster. Not surprising, but interesting. Another slot is now open on the 40, as well as in Charlotte.
  7. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) George Brett, hitting #3,000 OK, makes sense. Just a beautiful swing right there.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) Gotta love MLB. Burnett got 6 games for throwing at and missing a batter, Padilla just got fined for hitting Tex. Padilla is the biggest joke of all these. I seriously can't believe he continues to get away with the s*** he does, over and over again, and somehow isn't penalized liek everyone else. Dude is a Class A jackass.
  9. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) i hate dewayne wise. ps, where did this beckham/bacon thing come from? i musta missed it. Don't hate Wise, he's just out there trying to play. Be angry with the people who keep running him out there expecting him to suddenly become a major league ballplayer.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Sean Hannity exits all reality: Again, you are only enabling whack-jobs like this guy by spraying his drivel all over the interwebs. If we all ignore him, he goes away.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 04:12 PM) Sweet, Wise gets to face another LHP tomorrow. I really would rather they put Nix out there, who may not be a high ceiling hitter, but he looks good defensively everywhere he plays, and I'm beginning to like him as a utility player.
  12. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) Once the Barons clinch the first half, first place, I expect both Allen and Danks to be promoted assuming they still are playing well. Retherford might also, but that would mean three AAA people have to be demoted or released, which is a lot. I don't think they would go from AA to the majors with Danks, giving him some AAA time would be good. Allen could also be test more and I think his prodigious power would show up more in Charlotte. Charlotte has a lot of flotsam on its roster that should get cleaned out. I'd like to see Danks, Allen, Retherford, Cook, and a few pitchers from B-Ham in Charlotte after the first half ends. Guys like Ward, Myrow, E. Torres... they are just taking up space. Pitchers becomes more complicated, but I think Contreras ends up back on the Sox anyway, and possibly C. Torres, leaving room for guys like Omogrosso, Poreda and/or McColluch. Also in the pen, Fernando Hernandez has no reason left to be in AA, he needs to be in Charlotte eventually this season.
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) I don't think Allen will get in the top 100. They like higher upside guys for that list. I think Allen's upside is to be a solid Major Leaguer. If the people who write those articles think that there are more than 100 guys with higher likely results than "solid major leaguer" in the minors right now, then I'd call them delusional. I think Allen ends up near the bottom of that list, but I also think he is better than that in reality.
  14. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Is this Becks debut? Who is that in your avatar?
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) We'll win 12-2. 12-3. 12 + 3 = 15 = Beckham.
  16. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) I will go ahead and say five (in order): Poreda, Danks, Flowers, Allen and Viciedo. This is assuming Beckham doesn't qualify, which he won't if he plays the rest of the year in Chicago. My best guess about rankings would be: Poreda (35-45) Danks (40-50) Flowers (70-80) Allen (75-85) Viciedo (90-100) Beckham if he qualified would be between five and 10 in my opinion. I also think Retherford, Hudson and possibly Carter would get some consideration as well, but ultimately performance (Carter), Hudson, significant production dip after promotion (Hudson) and lack of physical tools (Retherford) would preclude them from making the list. But still, our system is getting significantly more stacked than ever before. I really like our hitters much better than the 2000 group that was labeled the best system in baseball, although that was primarily based on pitching. Our depth is great pitching wise, too, but we lack true difference makers. Poreda is coming along, but I wouldn't label him a difference maker, since he doesn't have the secondary pitches. I am hoping a big name slips in the draft this year and we snag him, but that probably won't happen. Other opinions about these guys? I'd say Viciedo won't be there (unless he really turns it on the rest of this season), Danks maybe a little lower, Allen about where you have him, but Poreda and Flowers higher. So I'd go with four.
  17. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Kill him. Just kidding, I like the Cork-a-roo. Seems like a great guy and I want him to succeed. If it were me, I'd see if I could get a prospect for Cole Armstrong. I don't think he's Flowers' future backup (that should be an established veteran who is there to help him along) and I don't see him ever backing up AJ because he is a lefty. Deal off Armstrong, clear another roster spot on the 40-man, and try to pick up a project reliever with a big league arm in the process, or something similar. I don't think you are getting anything of value for Armstrong.
  18. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 11:05 AM) I thought this thread was going to be about how your daughters will respect the Sox more when they don't have the Chevy Pride Crew next year. I'd be happy if that happens. Its a combination of a bad TV commercial, stupid t-shirt advertisements and cheerleaders, none of which need to be found at a baseball game.
  19. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) Hope everybody gets well soon. Thanks, they are indeed getting better, and I don't want to make it seem like they were deathly ill or anything. Just why it was that I am selling last minute - family needs to recover.
  20. CLUB SEATS SOLD But, the UD tickets and parade passes are still available, for FREE, for anyone that can pick them up from me.
  21. This Saturday's game is Daddy-Daughter day. I was going to bring my daughter to the game, for her first one ever, and go walking on the field with her. But she and my wife have been very ill this week, so its a no-go for us. I have: 2 very nice club section tickets, 2 cheap but not great UD tickets, and 2 passes for the on-field parade. I am selling the club seats for $50, and GIVING AWAY the parade passes and cheap seats. So if you have a daughter, I know its last minute, but you should think about these. The parade passes and cheap seats are hard tickets, you would need to pick them up from me tonight or tomorrow, but I can email the club seats. There is a thread in the ticket exchange as well. PM me if interested in any of the above.
  22. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 12:53 AM) A new book named Methland about my piddly little hometown. http://www.methlandbook.com/home Oelwien, IA is "meth land"? I knew Des Moines had big meth issues, but... Oelwein? Really?
  23. Time to gorplay a slaygood gamer. Need to get that bacony mojo back we had before OAK game 2. So listen up... GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 07:49 AM) Bacon is NOT a bust. He'll be sizzlin' by his 2nd AB tonight. if not, release him and call up Greg Paiml.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Buddy Bell was just interviewed and said he thinks Danks is major league ready. I imagine things might move rather quickly for the kid if we don't have our situation CF figured out by the All Star Break. Wow. That's unexpected - I thought maybe at best he was going to get a spring training shot for Opening Day next year.
