  1. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) I'm just going to throw this out to everyone -- what do you believe wouldl happen if our record this season is -- as BP predicted -- 72 - 90? It'd just be interesting to me because I don't believe there's any question our payroll would drop. I'm not talking a substantial decrease, either. Just maybe 10-15 million. Not enough to cry poor, but enough to completely alter our offseason. Is Iguchi resigned? Is Ichiro pursued? I know the posts I've made concerning a run at Ichiro have assumed the payroll remains over 100 million. What about Crede? Hell, he may be traded even with a World Series victory. Signing Ichiro might be the happiest any signing could ever make me. Everybody agrees he's an amazing player, but even beyond that, he's by far my favorite non-sox player to watch play. If I were ever to buy a non-sox jersey, it would be his. And if he were to join the sox.............................
  2. I think people are underselling Iguchi on his ability. He's clearly got the talent to produce better numbers than he has, it's just that you don't often get those numbers out of the 2-hole in the lineup. Particularly when you're batting after a leadoff spot that was bad most of the season. In addition, Iguchi has the most amazing defensive play on record. That should get him at least 4 million. Also, Iguchi has like 10 home runs through the month of april in my 2k7 game. That projects to a loooot of home runs. If that isn't worth $5 mil per year, I don't know what is
  3. QUOTE(bad at best @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 10:25 PM) I just dont understand how KW/Ozzie can take such a hypocritical stance on developing youth with our pitching and turn around and abandon our legitimatly talented outfield youth by going with Erstad and Pods. They are both quick fixes that are not what this team needs going forward. This team in the next 4-5 years needs Anderson hitting .280 with 15-20 HRs and playing amazing defense, he will do that somewhere. I guess not here. I'm aware that when a Sox player has a bad season, they're the scapegoat for all failures until they happen to have a good season, but I'd say we NEED Pods. None of our outfielders are yet capable of holding down LF for a season. Pods is. He's a necessity if we're to succeed this season, whether people like it or not.
  4. The royals are second in my game too! they play ridiculous defense too. DeJesus robbed me of like 5 home runs in the same game. He's a jerk. Also, the Indians are in last place as well! are video game results accurate predictors of the future? one can only hope. and, unfortunately, i can't even replace anderson with erstad because erstad sucks just as hardcore. it's a bad situation in CF in 2K7land
  5. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 14, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) I feel dumb for not really realizing it, but after seeing that quote last night, Anderson really does have very little chance of making the 25 man roster. Podsednik is obviously going to start if he is healthy. That is a given with Guillen. It has also be predetermined that Erstad automatically has a starting spot on this team, and it doesn't matter where it is. It just so happens there is a semi-opening in CF, and even if Erstad only has 27 games in CF since 2003, the spot is his. Its also clear by the quotes that Ozzie wants no part of Anderson on the bench, because "it's not fair to Brian" Once again, the day I turn on the game, and see an OF of Podsednik-Terrero-Dye, is the day I truly realize Williams f***ed up big time with the OF situation. At least nobody's questioning Dye!
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) Cause Cotts sucks major a-s-s. Really, he does. He had one good season. He is gone and I really couldn't care any less about it. Mackowiak for Marte was an awesome trade for the Sox. I would take a utility player with the capability of Macks any day over a nothing pitcher like Marte. I still can't believe we got Mack for Marte. That is just ridiculous. OK fine, that all makes sense. But I still think it was because of his name.
  7. anybody whose name is aardvark is cool with me. Also, his name comes very first on the alphabetical list of people who have ever played baseball. That distinction belongs to the SOX now!!! Free advertising!
  8. My favorite part of that blog was Huston Street's explanation of his game Man/Bear/Gun. I would always pick Bear, too.
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) Well it's obviously not what you intended, but I think Jermaine Dye qualifies as an outfielder, no? And aside from Podsednik's rookie year, he's never been a threat with the bat. He got on base at a respectable clip in 2005, but that's all he did (unless you consider a singles hitter a threat, and I don't unless they're hitting .330 consistently). With Mackowiak there'd atleast be potential for power and even a few stolen bases. FWIW, Mackowiak has had 3 years ('02, '04, and '05) with 400+ PAs and 2 ('04 and '05) with 500+. In those years he put up a .754 OPS ('02), a .739 ('04), and a .726 OPS ('05). As mediocre as those are, they are quite a bit higher than numbers Podsednik has put up. Hell, he damn near had 300 PAs last year and the numbers he had were quite respectable. For a leadoff guy, I consider getting on base a threat. Being on when our sluggers hit a bomb is a pretty big deal. He did that alright in 2005. In addition, he got to second at a fairly hefty clip without causing an out. In some ways, hitting a single and stealing 2nd takes more of a toll than just hitting a double. Doesn't show up on the OPS measures though. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 10:17 AM) Scottydo, just let it go, man. Pods has become the most hated, disrespected player in recent White Sox memory -- atleast on this board. Funny, this is the same board that got him into the all-star game in 2005 over Jeter. lol. All Pods has to do is have a year simliar to what he had in 2005. Something like .285-.290/.350-.360, steal bases at atleast a 75% clip. Play atleast an adequate LF. We're fine if he can do that. The rest will be up to the rotation and bullpen. Yeah, I know. Scapegoating. It's not even like I'm a Pods apologist, I think he's mediocre at best, it's just that we don't have a better option. Unless you consider Mack a better option. It appears a lot of people do.
  10. agreed. he hasn't put together back to back good offensive seasons. so what outfielder on our roster has? erstad has, 5 years ago. sweeney would probably fare about the same as anderson did last year. owens is clearly not ready. i think it's likely that terrero would fare the same as sweeney. My point is, if we have a better option than Pods I'm all for it, but we don't. As a side note, I'd be interested to see how Fields would fare in left field but I don't think it's gonna happen.
  11. has rmack proven he can play everyday in the outfield? I think he's very well suited to the role he's in now. At least pods has been an every day player for a few years, and writing him off as done is sort of strange considering he's only one year removed from a career season in which we (coincidentally?) won the world series
  12. If anybody thinks there's any chance that terrero will be a better option in CF than BA, they're crazy. p.s. what makes anyone think we're better off not having pods? I mean he's not the best LF in the universe but we're definitely not better with him gone and no real replacement
  13. Permaybe. But we all know Ozzie's not a BA fan as a person. I really think he's a great manager but he's clearly dominated by emotion in many cases.
  14. I think BA wins the job in spite of Ozzie's tendencies. I don't see him stealing 20+ bases, hitting more than 15 homers, or batting as high as .271, but even Ozzie can't deny his defensive talent. Once he becomes a not-liability at the plate I'd say he has the job locked down for a while. On a related note, I think we're all a little too hard on Pods. He definitely didn't have a good season last year, but I really believe that from August '05 till he had the surgery, Pods was hampered by injury whether he admits it or not. His offensive and base-stealing slumps could both be indications of that. Or they could be indications of him falling off, but I did see flashes of the old Pods at times so I'm less inclined to think so. That said, we have no good defensive options in left field aside from Erstad so I say that if Pods doesn't make it on time for the season opener (I really think he will), the Sox should plug Erstad in.
  15. I think the majority of us want BA to start the year in CF. Maybe not Ozzie, but he's not on this board. Is he? I think if he was he would have beaten up some of his haters by now. And called them f**s. Like Jay Mariotti.
  16. I really wish we could start the season with Haeger in that 5th spot, I really think he's the most prepared for the big leagues (in part because it doesn't really take as much preparation). Danks and Floyd are both talented and might both be good major leaguers, but I think at least part of a season in AAA would do wonders for both of them, particularly Danks. For now, Danks appears to be our future but Haeger is probably a better stopgap than even Pavano or Lieber, if you ask me. Which you didn't.
  17. he's a bum and i knew it all along! but seriously, time to go to work.
  18. woohoo, garland! i think he's gonna bust out another season akin to 2005 this year
  19. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Mar 7, 2007 -> 04:29 AM) Point taken. But I think Javier is much more a risk to be signed than Buerhle, based on what I said. Buerhle had a bad year, but overall he's been consistent, whereas Javier has not, unless you mean consistently dissapointing. i dunno, i kinda see where KW is coming from on this one. Mostly because buehrle will never overpower hitters with his stuff. He's a finesse pitcher and without that pinpoint control he has nothing. Vazquez will have the stuff he's got for years to come, presumably. I mean he's not gonna forget how to throw that wicked slider or 2-seamer. granted, he's done nothing to amaze past the 6th inning but it's the same old stuff vs. control debate. none of this is meant to impugn buehrle's curveball or his ability to come back, i think there's a good chance he will bounce back well. he's just gotta be more careful with his first pitch
  20. alright i guess i wasn't kidding when i said it was naptime. talk to y'all later, go sox!
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) lucy is in at C. Whistler in to pitch. time to take a nap
  22. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 06:43 PM) broadway needs more innings, no doubt about that, and with an addition of a good changeup he could be another garland with the sinker, but i see him more of a stretch at a 3, but more likely a #4 pitcher who will get wins and keep the era around 4-4.5, so good but nothing special, but nowadays that projection leads to 10 mill a year or more if you're marquis/lilly QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) why was he still pitching? just think it's odd that they'd pitch broadway for 2 and not danks/gio etc looks to me like everybody's getting more innings each outting
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Oh yeah. "He lost weight for this upcoming season." He lost 30 lbs I think someone said, thats alot of weight to lose in the offseason the natural way. But he was hitting the mid to high 90's in their game today. yup and i bet his velocity lost some heft as well. interesting approach to being a better pitcher, losing velocity...
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) So now Broadway sucks. Jenkins with the 2 run single ties the game at 3. Bill Hall rolls into a 6-4-3 inning ending double play. i always thought he sucked! kick him off the team!
