  1. QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) It doesn't have to be just Kotsay and Jones for the situational scenario. They may start at DH and finish in the field. One of the starters may be pinch hit for and some one like Vizquel may lay down a bunt and then move into the Dh spot for the rest of the game, or go to short and put Alexi at Dh for the rest of the game. Ozzie may remove some one for defense ( Konerko for instance ) late in the game put Kotsay at first and Paulie at DH. The flexibility and situational matchups don't end with just Kotsay and Jones. As long as you have guys who play the field the Possibilities exist all through the lineup. Even a pitcher may pinch run and be put in the DH spot and then when his turn to bat comes up be pinch hit for, with the pinch hitter going into the Dh spot and not in the field. Dammit! Why did we trade Clayton Richard!? Seriously, though, I like the way you think.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 7, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) It's good to see days like yesterday that give you hope for the White Sox offense. 15 runs against the Cubs , 8 against the Dodgers . I know it means next to nothing since it's ST and all but its sure beats getting shut out twice. I think you can extract a few items from what little the sox have demonstrated, not the least of which is the value of our newfound team speed (not just talking about stolen bases)
  3. QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 7, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) Keep Hudson and Santos in the pen and get rid of Linebrink nah, keep santos in the pen until the ASB, THEN get rid of linebrink before he implodes and call up hudson. i dont know what you do with linebrink though, his salary is too high to trade and i doubt any GM would just ditch that salary and DFA him either. maybe, though.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 7, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) I think what it is is the days of the 8 figure-salaried DH are dying plus teams really want another pitcher on the roster and I wouldn't be surprised if Bud again asks the union for permission to abolish the DH, maybe throwing a 26 man roster out there as a trade off. It would give him a better chance of getting it at least considered if the DH's weren't averaging making $8-10 million a year or more. I'm just looking forward to the day the White Sox don't have 4 or 5 guys who should be DHs playing the field. Perhaps this is the year. That's an interesting point. I kind of felt like we had a few boppers on the team who couldn't play the field because they were the heirs apparent for Thome's eventual departure. Maybe with this paradigm shift, that won't be the case any longer and our defense will improve as a whole.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) http://twitter.com/ESPY_TEAHEN/status/10027011859 Okay, I was on the fence about throwing my love for Teahen around, but that seals it. I'll be one of 4 people showing up this season with a Teahen jersey on.
  6. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) A buddy of mine just told me, Kotsay = DH, Jones is actually in center, JorDanks in right might as well figure out early if Jones still has it in the outfield. I'm down with that.
  7. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) I don't post very often, and I realize what I'm going to propose could be ridiculous, but here goes. What about building a package around Quentin for Gonzalez? Does that make any sense? From our point of view, it seems like its a lot easier to find a corner outfielder than a LH all-star 1B.... thoughts? I'd rather mortgage the farm than replace power with other (albeit superior) power.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 4, 2010 -> 12:16 AM) One midget is significantly taller and better at baseball then the other. Rios hit a wall last year, he'll recover. The last guy we gave up on over one bad year was Swish, how'd that work out for us? Oops, lost track of the quotes. Thought we were talking about Rowand. Rios is significantly better at baseball than wise -- he's actually relatively tall, if that metaphor hasn't died yet. Carry on.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) I think he'll be DHing a lot, probably most of the times time Pierre is hurting or needing rest against a LH starter. Vizquel is old, he needs days off from fielding so you pretty much HAVE to DH him
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 09:16 PM) A guy with gold glove defense who averages 16 bombs and 77 RBI's playing CF for the Chicago White Sox, a team that started Dewayne Wise on opening day last year, is plenty helpful lol ok yes, he's significantly better than dwayne wise but you know...tallest midget and all...
  11. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 08:15 PM) If Vizquel gets ONE start at DH it's one too many I still doubt he ever will. More likely, he'll play the field and the man he replaces will be DH. There's no reason to do it otherwise, he's a defensive wiz
  12. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) Ozzie seems to really like him and that scares me. i think ozzie is quoted as saying he's "disappointed" with cabrera's outting. i don't think there's any reason to believe he likes cabrera over santos, whom he's quoted as loving
  13. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Na, I think the guy was talking about guys failing to reach their potential under Coop (Masset, Aardsma etc). I see what he is saying, BUT I disagree with him, respectfully being the difference. And to the other guy, are you kidding? I saw what seemed like 10 high horses knocking down a regular horse, a horse named striker. Well, maybe 1 or 2 high horses with a couple echos from the followers. How can you miss the common theme from the whole first page of this mistitled thread? So Danks with a hit today; what else? lol there were a few actual highlights within this thread's fracas. Kroeger with a HR, flowers 2b and viciedo singled him in. hudson, 2ip, 4k, 0er. daniel cabrera, 15 units of suck (the scale only goes up to 12, who knew???)
  14. daniel cabrera, walking people already. ohhhh well...
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) Josh Kroeger, Spring Training superstar. Well, maybe he'll play his way onto a team someday
  16. Back on topic, Jordan Danks with the first hit of the game, per Reifort
  17. QUOTE (striker @ Mar 2, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) I have to disagree with you that he has done a great job with other reclamation projects. I think he has had more failures than successes. Successes: Thornton Failures: Linebrink Jenks (keeps regressing) Aardsma Sisco Cotts MacDougal Masset Polite Contreras I'm not blaming him for the failures as much as showing you that his ability to "fix" people is overblown. I don't think you get to count Jenks and Cotts and Contreras (and Politte) as "failures". You've got to put Jenks and Contreras on the other side, and just leave Cotts and Politte off entirely. Contreras never had a season approaching what he had under Coop when he was with the Yankees. That said, I do agree with your overall point. Coop is not magic.
  18. I've never heard Kenny say anything about being willing to trade Beckham. I saw the original article that spawned all this, and there is no quote from him about it. All it says is that Kenny would be willing to trade for Gonzalez at all costs and the writer says something to the effect of "that could possibly include Gordon Beckham?", question mark included. It's B.S., I heard the Score talking about it, they just want a storyline. There's no credible source saying KW will include the best player we've had since Frank for a 2-year rental. EDIT: Besides, what kind of ridiculous negotiation tactic would that be? "Here is a blank check for your 2-year rental, fill it in with whatever players you want, starting with the best." There's no way KW mentions Beckham as a possibility until they're well into the talks, if ever.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) vomit....
  20. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) Danny Tanner is my comedy writer. not Uncle Joey?
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) I didn't know TCQ could smile. That's not a smile, that's a war grimace.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) http://twitter.com/Schumouse/status/9687842728 Gee, ya think? wow, that is one of the least insightful tweets i've ever seen.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) 8==============D ! 8 does not equal D, you liar!
  24. QUOTE (Ranger @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 07:41 AM) Just say you're from Soxtalk when you're on the phone with me. You'll give your name and location, like everyone else does, but then once I have you on, just say you're from the board or give me your soxtalk name. Easy enough. Some of the WSI folks will do that. code words are so much more fun though...
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 11:58 PM) I know. Mike Greenberg was such a spaz this morning, and then the PTI guys today were making a big f***ing deal about it (Ozzie actually sent a shout out to Wilbon, but...). It's no big deal, and Ozzie isn't as wacky and crazy as you always portray him to be. Shut up about it, and do another stupid story about Tim Tebow's nonexistent NFL career. /rant Sometimes I wonder if they actually have meetings dedicated to what players/teams they should worship each season to the exclusion of all logic. I think they probably don't, it's probably a virus that travels through ESPN, but they sure act like it's an orchestration.
