Wood's 20 K's vs Buehrle's perfect game
ScottyDo replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 02:42 AM) Took me a minute to get that. I was this close to buying a gray Knights Beckham jersey they were selling like at the stadium, one week before he was called up. Actually, that would have been kinda cool. He was there for such a short time period, it'd be a pretty rare find. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:57 PM) I had a dream that the Sox were playing the Twins in Minnesota early in the season. Sox went up like 2-0 right away, Twins tied it up 2-2, Sox went up 3-2, and then Thome hit a 2-run homer to put the Twins up 4-3. Come top 9, the Sox had 2 outs and Nix was up for whatever reason, and he put one in the center field seats...Span was ready to jump and get it, but it was just far enough to be out of reach. For some reason, I had to leave after that, and looked at the score later and the Sox won 6-5 in 11 innings. Just figured I'd share. Here's hoping you're psychic!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Phew! I was about to flip the f*** out. She wasn't an anything fan till I got to her. I planted the Sox flag firmly in her forehead. Figuratively speaking... Now she's the proud owner of a Buehrle jersey, and before the year is over she will know more than 3 Sox' names, I promise.

QUOTE (SI1020 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) Yes it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Tigers did better than a lof of folks think they will. Seriously though, do 2/3 of you really think the Sox have fielded a division winning team? Even in a relatively weak division? If I think it's a coin toss between the Twins, Tigers and Sox (do they make 3-sided coins yet??), then why would I vote for anyone BUT the sox? And come now, you can't tell me that the Twins are definitevely better than the Sox. You say offense, I counter with pitching. Ours is significantly superior to theirs (Slowey? Baker? they may outperform their projections as Twins usually do, but they are still Slowey and Baker), just as their offense is moderately superior to ours, and their defense is moderately superior to ours. It all adds up to a ridiculously even division, so of course 2/3rds of us are gonna vote for our guys.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:31 AM) All this Twins love has to stop. It's nauseating enough to hear the Vikings getting slurped during the entire football season, I'd like a break during baseball season. They'll tease like usual, then fall flat in the playoffs if they make them. Tell me about it. My girlfriend lives in Minnesota (don't worry, she's a Sox fan) so I'm inundated with Minneapolis crap ALL THE TIME! I can hardly tolerate it. Every fiber of my being wants to watch them drown in mediocrity for once.

Did I see that box score correctly? There were ZERO substitutions during this game?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) What? How was it a mistake to keep a guy who can play 2b, 3b, SS, Lf and is hitting .341 this spring with an .OPB of .386 and an OPS of .850? Those aren’t even close to being poor numbers. What’s up with this recent surge in hatred for Jayson Nix? He was a rookie last year, and made rookie mistakes. He’s going to have an adjustment period just like everyone else. I'm totally in favor of Nix making the team. I think he's a great option for what we need. People are just displeased with his poor 3b defense this spring, I think. I'm one of them. He sure looks bad over there.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) Was so excited I made THIS!!! QUOTE (earthshiner @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) just a reminder who was on the OD roster last year: Miller Betemit Lillibridge Fields Wise MacDougal Anderson Colon things can only be better I'm not sure which post is more seizure-inducing.

Have they announced the rotation order yet? I mean, 1, 2, and 5 are set but will it be Danks-Floyd or Floyd-Danks?

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 02:12 PM) They used ZiPS Well then, ZiPS is crazy. The Central isn't that bad and the Indians aren't at all good. It would take dramatic steps to launch them from the basement to the ceiling, but instead they traded their ace.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Ramirez had at least 1 "I don't care about this" throw during the game I was watching over the weekend. Well, I shouldn't say they look fine. They look like it's spring training. I'm not worried about Alexei or Beckham or Paulie when the season starts is what I really mean to say. I really hope Alexei takes a step forward mentally in the field, though. If he does that, he could be a seriously plus defender at the most important defensive position on the field. Indications are that he's the same Alexei from last year, though.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) This is from the upcoming ESPN Magazine, they did 100 computer simulations and the Twins finished 1st more often, but somehow the Indians were next in line, as well as the only team to snag a wild card berth in one simulation. They also dont think much of the division, as the Twins are the only team to average a +.500 finish, at barely 82 wins. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/news/story?id=5028413 Knowing ESPN, their "computer simulation" probably consisted of a couple seasons of The Show.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) Baserunning...there's been some nice stuff going on, except Juan Pierre looks awfully slow to me. Alexei, Rios, Becksy have been moving well. Ozzie has also pulled off some sweet hit and run/double steal plays in the spring, and I think almost everyone on this board would agree that the hit and run is the one pressure/speed play that Ozzie has underused the past few years, so hopefully he likes those. Defensively...well, we've improved the OF. The IF...hasn't looked good to me yet. Beckham's still obviously settling in at 2b, Alexei seems right where we left him last year. The IF looks fine to me, with the exception of 3b. Sometimes that's Teahen, mostly it's Nix that looks god awful out there. I don't actually believe that Nix is a bad defender out there, though, he just doesn't seem relaxed. Inexperience, I guess, but you'd hope he would work most of that out before the games started counting if we're actually planning on throwing him out there occasionally. I'm thinking that when we use Nix as a sub for Teahen, we should plug him in at 2b and move Bacon over to 3b.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 01:13 AM) Matt Thornton is so automatic sometimes its scary. i know im scared!
-
filthy! just install thornton at closer now!
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 06:45 PM) My goodness. Do people really have this hard of a time with the spelling of "Teahen"? I mean, I expect it from a name like Jeff Samardzija. But Mark Teahen? Tea Hen. Come on... Especially from knowledgeable writers like Gammons. Plus, this is like his 5th year in the league, it's not like they haven't had plenty of time to figure it out.

QUOTE (striker @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) 4. White Sox This team confuses me at times, and Ozzie Guillen is right when he says, "We have to be healthy, we can't have happen to us what happened to Cleveland last year." They are not deep, so Carlos Quentin and Gordon Beckham have to be healthy. But they can pitch. Mark Buehrle, Jake Peavy, John Danks and Gavin Floyd comprise a solid foursome; they're hoping on Freddy Garcia, but he's been 84-88 mph all spring, so Daniel Hudson could become important. If Bobby Jenks' ankle holds up, they have a chance for a power bullpen. Matt Thornton could close, J.J. Putz's stuff has come back, Scott Linebrink, Sergio Santos and Tony Pena give Guillen a lot of flexibility, and they fall into the very capable and winning hands of A.J. Pierzynski. Scoring runs, however, could be an issue and put a lot of pressure on Beckham and Quentin. Alex Rios' spring moments have been in and out, Andruw Jones is carving a comeback, Juan Pierre brings speed and hustle, and they think Mark Teahan will produce at 28 off a year in which he hit 12 homers and had a 37-123 walk-strikeout ratio. No...no he did not.....really?

How many games will this team win in 2010?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 03:16 AM) Not flamed, but I certainly disagree. I think the Twins are the overwhelming favorites to win the division and we know we have to win the division to make the playoffs. We won't be winning the wildcard I don't think. I love our rotation but we know Mark gives up runs on occasion and we know Danks/Floyd is not yet ultra consistent, though I think Danks is almost there and Floyd not far behind. Freddy is hittable. Peavy hopefully will be a god. No team whose closer-by-committee includes Jon Rauch is an overwhelming favorite, IMO. That may be oversimplifying things a bit, but their rotation is by no means dominant and their bullpen will be infinitely weaker at the back end with their lock-down closer being replaced by the 4 they've got going. They're very touchable, as are we. -
Who do you want to get the last roster spot?

QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) I'd love to have the luxury of carrying Hudson for long relief and spot starts, but I went with Nix because I think you have to have more than one spare infielder. Vizquel replaces anyone for any reason and then an in game injury and you are caught with what? Kotsay or Konerko at third base. Nope, gotta have two infielders on the bench. Besides Hudson would only be a phone call away. LOL @ the thought of that. I think they'd lay down 4 bunts in a row for an easy run. -
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) At least somebody is in midseason form. i'd rather our players be in midseason form midseason
-
EXCELLENT play by Nix at 3b to snag a ball down the left field line. Bases were loaded, 2 out. Good job.
-
QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 05:25 AM) that's funny. maybe people are working on some new rants, trying to tighten up their whole approach to freaking out when the team has a couple bad games in a row. I agree. Right now, people are only throwing anxious rants. When the regular season hits, they'll be throwing anxious rants, angry rants, doomsday rants, and whiny rants depending on the situation. What matters right now is that they feel good about the rants they're throwing out there, even if they get hit hard.
-
QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) Quentin hits 40 Homers, finishes in top 5 MVP voting. Pierre is caught stealing 25 times. Jenks maintains closer role, but performs poorly most of the season. Floyd emerges as the staff ace, on the strength of a more consistent curveball. Teahen is replaced by Morel by July 1. Andrew Jones has over 500 PAs, and performs adequately. Mark Kotsay stays bad. He wasn't bad last year though

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 12:56 AM) I already whined about the pitching, but the offense took another day off. Kinda frustrating eventhough it is only ST. We have that cold weather for a month or two and man that could really be bad for the hitting if they are not showing any consistancy in the warm weather. theyve actually gotten a lot of hits lately, they just haven't strung them together that much
