QUOTE (stretchstretch @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 01:16 AM) The Sox and Twins come down to a one game playoff to determine ALC champ. With Bases loaded, 2 outs in the 9th, Thome comes to bat, Sox put on the shift and he grounds out to shallow right field like the million times he did in a Sox uniform!!!! :lolhitting

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) its a message board. You can certainly post freely, but you should also expect responses, and not everyone will agree with your posts. In this case, people are trying to point out to you what has been said numerous times by Cooper himself among others. This is just the reality of Spring Training. By the way, look back at the last few seasons of Sox ST records. I don't have them in front of me right now, but I can tell you they've lost more than they've won during the Ozzie/KW era. And yet, they won 2 divisions and were above .500 significantly in that period, when it counted. Also, Cleveland is leading the AL in spring training record right now. I'd rather be them

QUOTE (since56 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) I'm not a big believer in spring training stats, but the starting pitching has been getting smacked around pretty good lately. I don't like it, especially as we near the end of the spring. Peavy's last start where he gave up 6 earned, he threw nothing but fastballs because it was against a division opponent. Danks has been alternating which pitches he's been throwing in which innings (i noticed one was 80% breaking balls...he didn't happen to get hurt on that one). I imagine if that's how those 2 are working, Buehrle and Floyd are probably doing something similar. You really can't take anything away from the end results, you have to see every pitch (which I haven't).

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) BUT THE FACT THAT WE HAVE FIVE PLAYERS THAT ARE IDENTIFIED AS OUTFIELDERS MEANS WE ARE SO FLEXIBLE! Well, two of these "conundrum" situations are only conundrums because the players are too good defensively. We really ARE flexible in the outfield. My bold prediction? 162-0 There, it's been said. Boldly.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 25, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Why Ozzie has never picked up Lou Brown's technique with him... Hell, I'd buy a ticket just to see Lilliputian doing 40 pushups every time he pops one up. his pecs would start to weigh him down after a few weeks. dear lord, that is an awful image i just put in my head.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) Yeah, I would think a sane person would realize we are going to have a lot more awful offensive games this year than we did a year ago. Playing Pierre, Kotsay and Omar a lot sounds pretty iffy even in spring training. I'm scared to think of the possible results when the games start for good. Repeat after me 20 times: "our pitching is so good all this stuff won't matter; our pitching is so good all this stuff won't matter." Disagree. And I'm pretty sane. Welllllllll............................disagree, anyway.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) Good points. I need to start considering your point about days off and how players do apparently hide their injuries. I wonder how many teams do the Sunday lineup thing? Just asking. I don't really know. I know a lot of games last year, in our game threads, somebody would post the lineup and a lot of people automatically assumed a loss, which happened seemingly a lot. I hope this year we go for the jugular if we happen to win the first two games of a three-game series. That drove me CRAZY last year! We just could not nail down a sweep! We won the first 2 a bunch of times, but it just seemed impossible to lock down the third one.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) Jenks about 10MPH off his fastball since coming up. Yeah, I have a problem with that. Hasn't this literally been the story every season? I'm not saying his fastball is what it once was, but I honestly think the story on Jenks during every single spring training he's been with this team was "where's his velocity?"

I'm shamefully broke right now, but when I'm a doctor I'll donate ALL my money to soxtalk (...not actually though)! Just hang in there another 5 years!

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) I wouldn't mind seeing if Nix could get another lefty arm. Randy Williams is having a good spring, but i'd like to upgrade if the chance is there. Then what? Tinybridge as the other infielder? Blech. I think we need Nix more than an upgrade at 2nd lefty, personally.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) Listen at the end of the day the white sox are going to be similar offensive production from Teahen as they did from Crede. So in terms of production that the team is used to getting from their 3B their wont be that much difference, expect for defense of course. Crede 162 game average: .254/.304/.444/.748............26 HR, 29 2B, 86 RBI........Salary: $5M+ per year Teahen 162 game average: .269/.331/.419/.749............14 HR, 35 2B, 70 RBI........Salary: $4.6M per year (2010-2012 avg) In fact when you break this down, offensively they are almost the same in terms of production. When all is said and done their OPS is identical. What crede lacks in batting average and OPB he makes up for in HR and RBI, and what Teahen lacks in power he makes up for with better BA, OBP, and thus doubles. Of course all things being equal you would rather have Crede because of the defense, but looking at offense alone I would consider his contribution to the offense to be be either the same as Crede's or slightly better since Tehean does bring some speed (averages 10 SB per year), and his place in the lineup is more in-tune with his higher OBP and doubles rate. P.S. Oh and lets not forget to mention Teahen is not a looming injury every time he takes the field. Well, Crede played in the Cell almost all his career whereas Teahen played in Kauffman. I'm too lazy to look up OPS+ (a park-adjusted stat, yes?). Anybody got that offhand?

My hopes for the White Sox's reality show

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 23, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I'd like the first season to be about figuring out who Adam Carroll is, and the second to find out what's in the Hatch. :lolhitting :lolhitting -
QUOTE (Real @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Why would you DH Jones instead of DHing TCQ and put Jones in RF? I'd assume he'd be the better defensive player in RF, assuming his arm is still above average I don't know Quentin well enough to provide a psychological profile or anything, but it's been mentioned here before that Quentin may not be well suited to a DH role. The worry is that he will beat himself up mentally (and physically?) for 30 minutes between at-bats.

QUOTE (striker @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) I'd bat Beckham 3rd. I think he's the best pure hitter on this team. I don't think you do that yet, but maybe by the end of the year. The kid's already got enough pressure on him and, while I'm sure he can handle it, why tempt fate?

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) The White Sox released pitcher Daniel Cabrera and outfielder Jason Botts, according to a team press release. to that!

Who was the most reviled current Sox here
ScottyDo replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (The Gooch @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 07:43 PM) I don't get the hate for Pods, even last year. Yes he did make a lot of baserunning mistakes, but he was one of the few guys that were regularly on base for us. He was one of the few bright spots on a piss poor offense. As for my most reviled player, I will have to go with Linebrink as well. Anyone who blows such a large lead against the Cubs goes straight to crap list, and it becomes pretty hard to get off after that. I would call Linebrink my mot reviled player since Billy Koch took the mound for us. I've told my friends they're never allowed to mention that name in front of me. Can we apply that rule to Soxtalk too somehow?? -
I know they actually use this as an intro to broadcast segments, but "Hysteria" by Muse makes me bang my head every time.

If Flowers' bat isn't there, then he has no value as he is no defensive wiz. His bat has not proven itself a known commodity, so I'd rather he polish that up in AAA and then learn the staff. One is more critical than the other at this junction.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) Are you thinking of long relief? A couple of years back, when we were talking about the long relief spot and Nick Massett, some people said we didn't need a long reliever. I countered with something like, "what if buehrle goes out on opening day, puts up 2 2/3 innings with 7ER and someone needs to eat the rest of the innings?" Then, Buehrle proceeded to put up the exact stats I suggested and Massett came in for long relief and actually did quite well. Now, clearly, I lucked into the stats and Massett didn't end up being anything special, but the point remains the same: we NEED someone in the pen that can go 3-5 innings if necessary. Without someone like that, you could very well shoot the entire bullpen in the foot. I'm starting to think we should just give up on the love affair with Santos, no matter how live his fastball is, and stick with Mr. Pedestrian, Torres.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 06:23 PM) Id be a bigger fan of this if this wasnt just a bunch of BS. For the past several years, I've watched plenty of players "loaf" and not receive any repercussions for such actions. Players would hate to play for me, as I would actually require them to hustle on and off the field, run out "routine" plays, and actually play the game how its suppossed to be played. There's a difference between a 10+ year vet like Jones or Thome loafing in ST and a 22 year-old AA player like Viciedo loafing. I don't think it's B.S. that Viciedo would get called out and not the more veteran players. Viciedo needs to keep that ego in check and his work ethic high if he ever wants to sniff the major leagues. I agree that everyone should run out routine plays, I'm just saying that there's a reason behind their selectivity.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 10, 2010 -> 12:04 PM) Hitting stats so far: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/stats/sort...;sortByStat=AVG pitching stats so far : http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/stats/sort...amp;timeFrame=1 Our pitching staff is off to a blistering start. The only starter to allow a run yet is freddy. Most of the bullpen looks pretty golden too. Why is Randy Williams still not on the roster?

VIDEO PROOF: Carlos Quentin DOES laugh
ScottyDo replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
correction: this is proof that quentin CAN laugh. To say that he does laugh implies that it's happened more than once. ever. -
QUOTE (RyanPaleAndHosed @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) If anyone wants to help out with ours, we'd be more than happy to oblige. We'll take all the help and support we can get. If you think we're missing something, could be doing something better, or if you think we're blabbering idiots who make you want to commit suicide or shoot yourself in the crotch with a whale harpoon - let us know. I always wanna do that so anything I say on the matter should be discounted. If only I could find one of those things....
