  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 26, 2010 -> 12:17 AM) The only team the Sox really need a second lefty for is Minnesota, and considering how good Morneau and Mauer are at hitting lefties, that tends to get neutralized. Detroit doesn't have a real strong lefty hitter, and while Cleveland has Branyan, Hafner, Choo, and Sizemore, only Choo and Sizemore instill any type of fear in me from the left side of the plate. If the Sox could go with a 6-man pen while not losing Santos and having a second lefty, I'd be just fine with it. But it seems as though the organization really likes Santos, and the second lefty is something Ozzie obviously can't go without. I'm generally not the type to look back on deals, but the current situation makes the Linebrink contract look really, really bad, because they could easily go into the season with a top 4 of Jenks, Thornton, Putz, and Pena. It almost would have been better if the Sox could have let the Dodgers keep the money from the Pierre deal and instead take on Linebrink (but of course, he has no trade protection too). In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they did try and work something out along those lines, because it seems far too coincidental that the Sox got $10.5 mill back from the Dodgers while Linebrink makes $10.5 mill over the next two seasons (though the allocation of resources is different, as the Sox get $7 mill this year and $3.5 mill next, opposed to $5 and $5.5). Whatevs, just rambling at this point. We do play quite a few games against opponents outside the division. I'm just sayin'.
  2. QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) someone might have already posted this but garfien wrote about it today on his blog (with video). http://www.csnchicago.com/02/24/10/Sox-Dra...&feedID=665 Oh Ozzie...But seriously when does Lillibridge get a twitter???? "@lillibridge couldn't reach the counter today, had to beg my mom to get me a cookie"
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) would be sweet if vicedro was called up as the full time DH and in his rookie season hit 330 with a 400 obp and 60 HR hey, you called it
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) In other words, we don't lose him if we send him to the minors to start the season and give Santos a tryout. I believe that to be the case
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Is Cabrera on a Minor League contract? yup
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) Mark Teahen is a weird guy. lol. He sure loves his dogs.... Whaaaaat the eff.....okay, I love this guy
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 12:10 AM) I really can't stand when people who aren't on twitter bad mouth it. I get it you think it's just people saying "i'm eating cereal!" but really if that's all that's on your twitter page you just should stop following your boring friends and find the gems...like roger ebert. hey, i just told you my moral stand is disintegrating! what more do you want from me?
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 11:19 PM) He's already tweeted 5 times in the last hour. oh god, its like giving a dog a squeaky toy...
  9. you know, i may actually create a twitter account for this. i can feel my moral stand disintegrating..........
  10. Twitter-speak is already barely intelligible, as is Ozzie. I can only imagine what abominations unto the English language will arise when you combine the two. I hope for oh-so-many reasons that some poor Sox intern is actually writing these things.
  11. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) Good for Bobby. Also nice to see Linebrink being a supportive clubhouse guy and a good friend. Gotta earn his paycheck somehow, right?
  12. @walker article Interesting that they're gonna bat Beckham 2nd, I didn't think they'd do that. Not that I mind it, not at all. Teahen 5th is also veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery interesting. I think I may mind that a little more, but they must be REALLY high on him if that's even a possibility
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 08:20 PM) Mr. Rongey, no offense intended, but as far as I am aware, you are the pre and post game host for Chicago White Sox games on the Score radio station, correct? Again, no disrespect intended here, but you are not a MLB player. You are not an agent for an MLB player. You are not currently employed by the front offices of any Major League teams. You are not currently employed in any offices of Major League Baseball. In what field would you say that you are employed? Is this an office space reference?
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) Mr. Rongey, I am perfectly happy to admit I am a last word whore. But as long as we're being open and honest here, why don't you fess up as well, my friend. We've seen players mention numerous times in the press how Kenny has contacted them. And considering the fact that it has been VERY publicized that Kenny and Jake talk, I don't think Kenny would have had a very difficult time getting him on the phone, especially considering he was due to be in Glendale on Sunday. Regardless, my point wasn't so much that Jake or another veteran SHOULD have volunteered to defer the money from their own contracts, my point was that if this was really about the money, and not about principle, than there were other ways to make this signing occur. And push come to shove, I think some of our veterans, if they were willing to talk to the press about wanting a player on our team for the sake of winning, just might be willing to make some sacrifices if their own to make that a reality. I'm not sure valuing a player differently than another team does, monetarily, is quite "operating on principle". It's operating on an economic principle (a sound one, in my opinion), but not an intrinsic emotional one. That's just my take on the whole series of events. I don't think this was a "go screw yourself, boras" thing or a "we need rotating DH's at all costs" thing, but an "all things considered, damon's contract is worth $___ to us" thing.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) Andruew Jones is really on top of things. "Why did Andruw Jones come to camp so early? He thought the whole team was supposed to report today. Seriously. #whitesox" http://twitter.com/ChuckGarfien/status/9448988186 Oh god. Why didn't he just lie? Jebus.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 12:21 PM) Dye is not the LH bat that this roster needs, neither is Blalock with his low OBP. Much rather take a chance on Delgado at that money as a platoon guy to bat DH against righties and spell Paulie some at 1B. He probably wont be ready til the AS break, but it gives you a chance to see what you have in house til that time. If we're gonna wait till the ASB, I think I'd rather pick someone up in a trade. That way, we can be sure of what our actual needs are vs. theoretical, pre-spring training needs.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Don't forget Cooper's impact on the pitching staff. He's the one coming up with their offseason throwing schedules, their ST throwing schedules, probably a fair bit of their conditioning work, etc. Aww, man, does that mean we have to give Walker credit too?
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Judging by his shape, most likely a PT Cruiser. Is Herm Schneider our new Fat Joke target!?!?!? That's brilliant, I never considered the coaching staff! Hurray! There is hope for this season yet!
  19. QUOTE (Calderon's perm @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) From Zimmerman at Beyond the Boxscore via Rob Neyer. Shows that the White Sox paid considerably less $ to the DL than any other team from 2002-2009. One of the article's conclusions: "Teams should figure out what the White Sox are doing to prevent injuries. They are amazingly good." This could go a long way towards explaining the Sox tendency to beat stat-based projections more often than not over that span. Or it could just be a coincidence. Or a huge jinx. Coming aboard with a splash! Nicely done. I second Herm's nomination. Is he an M.D. or P.T. or what?
  20. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 11:53 PM) He's going to have a tough time fighting those stiff breezes. On the other side of that coin, though...he can now fly. Kind of like a kite. I think that gives him a distinct advantage defensively.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) Beckham's gonna hit 5-Run Homers every at bat in Spring Training. That mean's he's hitting in the batting circle. His plate coverage is just that good
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) In 2008 he did slightly worse in the 2nd half. In 2007 he improved A TON with BA 80 pts higher, 4 more HR, and an OBP 100 pts higher in 20 less at-bats. In 2006 he did slightly worse. In 2005 he did about the same. So since he has been with us. He only did terrible in the 2nd half 1 time, and did awesome in the 2nd half another time, while basically remaining the same the other times. I would hardly consider him a first-half performer. I think the power outage during the 2nd half of 2006 does not sit well with a lot of us, and Dye's image suffers from the resulting bias.
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 06:37 PM) Even if he has a good year, do you think he's capable of being in the top 40% of all the 1B/OF/DH in MLB based on statistics over his 2 previous seasons based primarily on AVG, OBP, HR, and RBI ? He was number 75 out of a group of 99 based on '08-'09 stats. It's not going to happen. Probably not. Can he get Type F status?
  24. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) How do people like Wade have a job...? He and Matt Millen should start a club
  25. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Huh? In what world is Andruw Jones worth draft pick compensation? He won't even be close to sniffing Type B. In the world where he performs such that we want him back the next year. That was the premise of the post.
