  1. For the record #1 people need to stop taking Rick Hahn statements literally. He has flat out said that isn't going to tell the general public the in depth details of his plans, and in fact he would be more than willing to mislead them if it served the teams purposes. Being upset that they Sox said one thing and did another over roster filler type players is a gigantic waste of time. Every GM signs these players. #2, If the team is signing veterans that block younger players, it should be an INCREDIBLY clear signal that the team doesn't think that player is either ready for the big time, will ever be ready for the big time, or that they at least have enough doubts about a particular young player that they want a back up plan for them. In the case of Edwin, you are talking about a guy with LONG track record. You will also notice that even with the many injuries and roster shuffling, that guys like Collins and Mercedes were WAY down the list of guys they were willing to use. This should be a big red flag that the Sox do not believe they are ready today, or just aren't ever going to be good enough that they are willing to let them play and learn. I know back up QB syndrome is a thing among fans, but it is should be crystal clear that the Sox do not believe in Zach Collins and Yermin Mercedes as of now.
  2. I think your expectations here are out of line. No one is going to hit on the "vast majority" of these types of signings. Guys who are signing 1 year deals are signing them because they weren't good enough for long term deals. So why the surprise when they don't put up big numbers? This is the lottery ticket section of free agency. This is where you finish filling and balancing your roster out for a particular year. Expecting Miguel Gonzalez types of signings to put up big WAR seasons is totally misunderstanding what these signings are for.
  3. Who out there is hitting on the "vast majority" of 1 year deals?
  4. And for most of those years, they haven't been looking to do anything but fill the roster up around a rebuilding team. It also goes without saying that guys who are signing 1 to 2 years typically aren't very good. If they were good, they were going to be signing longer term deals. This seems obvious, but guys who are signing these deals aren't prime free agents.
  5. Right. Disqualify anything good, reframe the argument for only the bad.
  6. This would be my guess as well. With CoVID considerations, we probably had to submit something like a 40 man roster, that covered all of the possible players in the playoffs will be, and then we would pick the 28 man roster from this list, and 99% for sure that Vaughn won't be on it.
  7. There are a lot of exciting under the radar players on the list.
  8. Nothing about Quintana's numbers got better after he went to the Cubs.
  9. Nothing is only on him. He is the mouthpiece of the owners. If this happened, it is because most owners wanted it to happen.
  10. Yes it is. Yoan Moncada didn't just forget how to hit, especially when it is painfully obvious what his issue is.
  11. This is always going to be a high standard deviation line up. A lot of streaky guys who boom or bust.
  12. come on man. Really? This is exactly the Overreacting that comes back around.
  13. Feel free to wallow all you like. I resent the idea that being positive about the team is a bad thing and will absolutely say something to that.
  14. you say "fan club" like its a bad thing. It is pretty telling to be honest.
  15. I guess I should have expected you to answer that you only were worried.
  16. Yet here we are in a golden position for the foreseeable future, so who was wrong?
  17. If you look at the whole package of where we are today, and what we still have in the minors, plus the guys who are ready to sign when the international stuff is ready, I can't see giving this anything but an A. If the pandemic hadn't happened, we'd also be sitting in an incredible financial situation on top of all of the assets.
  18. Like I said if you had made these arguments 4 years ago, sure. These guys had done nothing to deserve their jobs to partake in a rebuild and the evidence then made it look like this group was being asked to do exaclty what they were worst at doing. But now we have all of this new information to tell us different. The #1 farm system had turned into a playoff birth. That is EXACTLY what you wanted to see out of this. And they are still on the upswing here.
