  1. If we saved a decent amount on Crochet, no. Not even close.
  2. Crochet has a slot of $4.5 million. If he takes say a million dollar haircut, they can pay Kelley $2.5. If Crochet signs for $3 million they can also push about $3 million to Kelley. Both of those figures are without the extra 5% they can go over without penalty, which amounts to about $385k extra. So a scenario like Crochet signing for $3.5 means they could move the other million over to Kelley, plus the other almost $400k they can go over without penalty would put Kelley right at $3 million.
  3. Depends on how much they save with Crochet.
  4. This is a pretty big gamble for the Sox. The kids track record is pretty minimal. He added a lot very recently, and hasn't had much time to show it off. This is the kind of kid that could have been a top 3 pick with a 2020 season, or he could have fallen into the middle rounds if he reverted back to his freshman and sophomore seasons. I would be curious, if the Sox didn't pick him, where would Crochet have been picked?
  5. Stand in against Crochet https://twitter.com/GarrettCrochet/status/1265441521769340928?s=20
  6. 2020 MLB Draft Day 2 Coverage Date: Thursday, June 11 Time: 5 p.m. Eastern TV: MLB Network, ESPN2 Streaming: MLB.com
  7. It isn't as simple as that. Abel probably takes up the entire draft slot money. Crochet should allow us to get a greater high school player later on, where with Abel. that probably doesn't happen. Instead of a high ceiling guy in round 2, we are looking at a slot level college pick.
  8. The question becomes is Crochet plus Kelley worth Abel + a lesser college player (mostly likely an at slot deal pick)
  9. The Commish yesterday during the draft flat out stated that there will be baseball in 2020.
  10. That's it. I was a young pup when it happened.
  11. A side bar to this is they interviewed the kid after the draft and he fully admitted to modeling his slider after Chris Sale.
  12. This sounds like a guy that Don Cooper would like.
  13. This sounds like a White Sox draft pick. They regularly dabble in coverting/ed players.
  14. If we save a million on Crochet, that would translate to about $2.6 million available to use on their 2nd round pick without hitting into the extra 5% overage that has been allowed in the past. Who knows what his number looks like, but I imagine they are saving something here.
  15. I love having you on the board. One of these days I need to buy you a beer or something at a Sox game.
  16. Where does Ginn get drafted if he wasn't hurt? Is his injury something that is because of his motion and could repeat?
  17. Probably has a deal with someone and warned off other teams.
