  1. Watched the premier of Time after Time on ABC. It was pretty much Timeless. Same plot holes, and same lack of excitement.
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) He called Obama a sad man, that implies Obama did it directly. Its entirely inaccurate and completely undermines how the United States system works. Its the equivalent of someone in criminal court telling the judge "Im being arrested because of Rauner/Rahm." If people arent willing to stand up to Trump and educate him on how the system, that he is currently the President of, works, then we dont deserve our freedom anymore. Its really that simple. (edit) SS2k, He may have been legitimately monitored. That is why he is framing this as "Obama" the "sad man" did it, so that any investigation's credibility is destroyed. He is hedging against a real criminal investigation. This is probably the smartest thing that has been said here. I honestly think the rest of trying to apply logic to Trumps actions in general are a large waste of time. What is boils down to is the guy is a level 100 con-artist who will literally say whatever he can to get what he wants. In this case I think there might be an actual nugget of reality that his insanity is based on, and it is fairly obvious how it would come about. The rest of it is garbage.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) Okay, you are free to believe this evidence-free claim from a man with a history of promoting paranoid conspiracy theories. I'll duck back out of the Republican/MAGA thread. Honestly with all of the background fires around Trump, I would be shocked if he weren't being monitored. It would be basically negligent.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Obama did not wiretap reporters. Do you understand the scale of the 100% evidence-free claim that Trump has leveled here? This just seems like an excuse to believe in things with zero evidence. We know about Trump campaign/admin contacts with Russian ambassadors because we monitor the Russian ambassador. That doesn't mean or lend any support to a claim that the President ordered illegal wiretapping of a US citizen. The United States as a long and storied history of using its spy agencies as tool for those in power to monitor and even intimidate opponents. Throw in the stories about involvement with Russia during the election and it is not kind of a leap of faith to see Trump and people in his team being tapped and monitored by our spy agencies.
  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) I don't think so, but certain people could. Should he have said it? No......but he was a 20 year old kid...in Russia. THE SCANDAL!!!! Russia is a whole different world. They still have fairly active mobs that specialize in the attacks and intimidation of gays. They are also much more anti-cultural than we are, especially for those who still yearn for the strength of the Soviet Union. To me the only surprise is that we don't hear more about this from the Russian kids.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) Monitoring of Russian foreign nationals by both US and potentially other Western intelligence services. This is tens of thousands of miles from Obama ordering illegal wiretaps of a US citizen/political opponent. You have a lot more faith in the United States spy agencies than I do.
  7. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) The real problem is that no one seems to understand how wiretap works. Even if Trump was under investigation, Obama couldnt have done it on his own. Of course he wouldn't have. But most are too lazy these days to actually spell out the detail of how those things work, and instead speak in short hand. In a case like this, anything done by the federal government during the previous eight years of the Presidency would be done by Obama. Starting January 20, anything done by the federal government is done by Trump... at least when you speak a large portion of the country.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) The accusation from Trump/Breitbart fever swamps is that Obama personally ordered illegal wiretaps on Trump Tower. Accusing the former President of literally doing Watergate 2.0 with zero evidence is a big f***ing deal. I know what the accusations are. I can also take a piece of lunacy and see where the reality in it might come from. Again, tell me where you think all of this information about Russia is coming from? Falling out of the sky?
  9. I definitely don't think the US spying on its own citizens is any sort of a leap of faith. President after President has does nothing but strengthen those powers and slowly but surely abuse them a little more with each passing term. Mix in any suspicious work with the Russians and you have a fairly easy and obvious reason to get a wiretap granted by the legal system. Ever wonder how these contacts with Russia became documented? Do you think it was random luck by our spy agencies? While the man is an obvious loon, in this case, I don't see it as a large stretch of imagination to see this happening.
  10. Didn't we wiretap Merkl too?
  11. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) The biggest change for the positive is no more Robin. That should be good for at least 10 extra wins alone. The only thing is that's offset by the loss of Sale, Eaton, and others. I don't see us being worse, but don't see us being better either. Yikes.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 12:54 PM) http://faxesfromuncledale.com/video-shows-...emarks-in-2012/ That whole write up struck me as revenge porn, without the porn.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 12:30 PM) The information about Trump campaign members being under FBI/FISA investigation didn't come out until after the election, and that was a thing that actually happened, unlike this 100% made-up claim that Obama ordered Trump Tower to be wiretapped. Trump's always been a paranoid conspiracy guy. Birther nonsense, vaccines cause autism, Ted Cruz's dad played a role in killing JFK, 3-5 million illegal voters, thousands of Muslims cheering 9/11 in NJ, Obama literally founded ISIS, polls are rigged, if he lost then the election was rigged, probably more I'm forgetting. This is who he is and who he's always been. Again, all of this was said before the election.
  14. I am completely lost here. What is going on? Some blogger has some sort of blackmail material?
  15. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) My favorite response to the nonsensical Trump claim: Say nothing? The last few months of the election was Trump story after Trump story, mixed in with James Comey's crusade. Everything but the kitchen sink got thrown at Trump. His voters just didn't care about any of it.
  16. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) Not sure that is close to being true anymore. Yes, they still have Abreu, Moncada, and ~Rodon, but the Dodgers are probably the team with that claim at this point. With as bad of situations have been in LA (Puig's war with the organization, multiple guys washing out quickly, guys being traded very quickly, Alex Guerrero's situation dragging out for three years), I'm not sure their reputation is a positive thing... other than they used to be willing to hand out tons of cash.

  19. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 6, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) His closest friend is the almighty dollar. Whatever deal offers the most cheddar is where he'll sign. As long as we are talking about after June 15, the money will be pretty close. Then the White Sox have a pretty nice list of reasons to fall back on as advantages for a player like Robert to come here. Before that date, money can be a huge factor, and probably will be. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) This is actually a pretty solid point. Under the new signing rules there won't be much difference in what teams can offer in terms of pay. If you start looking at secondary factors, the White Sox might be the top landings spot in all of baseball. They have a history of being good to Cuban players, and they have done it multiple times. Alexei, Dayan, Abreu, etc have all gotten long term playing time, and very solid careers here where they made a lot of money. We have a Bi-lingual manager that thinks in Spanish as well as he thinks in English. On top of that, they have really integrated Spanish speakers and translators all over their minor league system, as well as the ability for players to learn English too. We have a very solid core of Spanish players starting out at the youngest ages in the DSL going all of the way up to vets like Jose Quintana and Jose Abreu. Our rookie ball team had a HUGE number of players from Latin America and that group is starting to push through the minors. Some are up to High A ball as the end of last season. As long as he is still here, having an established Cuban star like Abreu to mentor the guy could be huge. Plus having Moncada in the pipeline these guys can all give cultural insight that no one else can, and they exist not only in the majors, but in the minors too. The White Sox are still pretty devoid of minor league position player prospects, and their MLB starters are all guys who could be gone very soon.
  20. Bruce Levine‏ @MLBBruceLevine 9m9 minutes ago Rodon 33 pitch side session today . Two days off and than he will throw BP on Wednesday . Don Cooper said he has not thrown full out yet .
  21. Colleen Kane‏ @ChiTribKane 2h2 hours ago Michael Kopech said he expects to throw in a sim game Tuesday rather than today. Reynaldo Lopez starting at Diamondbacks.
  22. Connor McKnight‏Verified account @C1McKnight 52s53 seconds ago Kopech won't pitch today against the DBacks. Will work in a B game early next week. Sox want a controlled environment to get his stamina up.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 09:50 PM) You are arguing with yourself. Over the next three years, if Rodon puts up these same numbers, no one will consider him a core piece to this franchise. As Rodon enters age 24 and his 3rd full season, progression is expected. For some reason, you have created a scenario where the Sox have to identify Rodon as a "core player" this instance, or everything goes up in smoke. Chris Sale and Adam Eaton were core pieces for this team the last two years. They aren't anymore. Things change. Even I recognize that you are going to have to give these kids time. Let me put it this way. Giolitto was drafted two years before Rodon was. Is anyone ready to declare him not important? Didn't think so.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) I respect the mods/admins to the fullest. I'm just saying that if any random Joe Schmo member brought up politics in a Sox thread, they would've been punished for it. That's all. I didn't really want to derail the thread to play into the victim complexes at work here, but when it comes to what the leadership group does here, I do take offense to this. That whole idea is just silly. It is actually not very easy to actually get punished on Soxtalk. We pass out warnings like Tylenol instead of suspending people. We shutdown threads instead of suspending people. Most people who do get suspended are passing the same line multiple times over a period of time to get punished. It takes an insane amount of pushing it to get punished beyond a suspension. Heck over the time that Soxtalk has been around, we have probably let at least 10 people who have been banned for life come back to Soxtalk on a second or third chance. A few of them are still around today. NO one is getting punished for a throw away comment. That isn't reality, and the fact that people might actually believe garbage like that is true does a gigantic disservice to everyone who is involved in day to day management of this board. People put a lot of time into Soxtalk to keep it going. The fact that this message board is still around and thriving in 2017 when the message board has in general gone the way of the dinosaur is a testament to the work that everyone here does. A post like this is complete slap in the face to the entire staff of Soxtalk, and I don't take it kindly. If that is really how you view this board, I think you are in the wrong place. For my own sake, it was a throw away comment meant to be an absurdity used to demonstrate and contrast between possibility and probability based on history. I personally didn't anticipate someone's feelings actually being hurt by that statement, as I thought it was obvious enough where I didn't need to mark it in green text for the sarcasm-impaired. I definitely didn't think the second joke would lead to a real life personal attack. Obviously there are a couple of people who I need to be mindful of getting upset very easily around here, and will from now on. And as always, if you do really have a problem with something, instead of derailing the discussion into someone much worse than what the comment did, PM someone and talk to them about instead of doing exactly what you are getting upset about in the first place, and flushing a thread down the toilet even worse than was already done. No matter what the perspection of the initial post was, posts like this only further degrade the integrity of the discussion.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) In some cases, like Sessions, the issue for me is about perjury. Dude clearly lied to Congress. Follow that trail. Did he lie out of stupidity, or fear? Was the fear founded in something real or just fright about admitting he spoke with a Russian dude? I mean it's not a problem that a Senator speaks with a Russian official, necessarily. But Sessions did it on campaign funds, which is also a big problem. So that's another trail to follow. This part I get. But that isn't my question. What are the actual rules here?
