  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) *24% of the public and more people voted for Dem Senators than Rep Senators. Yeah, that's the undemocratic system we have, but if you're going to make appeals to "the public" they aren't as strong when you routinely receive fewer actual votes but win through an archaic system. But of course you know that the Senate system isn't supposed to create equal representation.
  2. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) I think the public spoke and if the Democrats keep up politics as usual, they are going to be voted out in record numbers. Eh. 46% of the public didn't speak. It takes very little of a move of people off of the sidelines and into the D's camp to remake things in the opposite direction. The one thing I have been blown away with since election day isn't how upset the left wing is, because they are always in meltdown over any Republican. This is the same group that labeled so many candidates as right wingers, they had to come up with a new term for actual right wingers because no one really cared about the term anymore. No, what has amazed me since election day is how pissed off and insulted the middle of the country is right now. In all of the elections I have ever been through, I have never seen anything like this. That is even including Bush/Gore in 2000 where the left squealed about a stolen election ad naseum. Even then the middle just wanted to get past it and move on. That is the opposite case with this election. I have never seen so many pissed off people. If this sentiment lasts in even a fraction of its current form, even Walter Mondale is going to laugh about the electoral slaughter.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Sure, but if you live in my world right now, the far left is LIVID at the Senate Dems for confirming ANY cabinet picks, and for even considering Gorsuch. It's ugly over there. The left's choices are to vote D or let Trump keep his clean road to do whatever he wants. I am pretty sure this won't be an issue that stops them from voting.
  4. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) brett05: ss2k5 is definitely left wing extremist loon Of course you know, this means war.
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 01:28 PM) uh... I don't necessarily believe that. the potential tea-party lite style attacks from the left may just keep the GOP in power. I think Trump is doing exactly what Hillary Clinton couldn't do in the last election. Motivate the middle of the political spectrum to vote for a Democrat.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Anyone else think Gonzalez is going to implode this year? I hope he doesn't but I can't help but have this feeling. I said at one point that I would traded him for almost anything this winter. Last year was literally at good as he could get. The odds of a fall off are more than decent. He had career bests in HR/9, FIP, and BB/9. I wouldn't bet on him doing it again.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) That's the point of this entire conversation. The only deal I've signed off on would be the Celtics deal because the Brooklyn picks could very well amount to two superstars. We're not at a point where Jimmy will get us anything, and I'd rather not continue to be stuck in NBA hell. Honestly I don't want to see a deal done at all until a change is made in the front office is made. I have zero faith in Gar Forman to make a deal for Jimmy Butler that pays off. He hasn't earned any trust of being able to do the right thing here. I'd rather hold on to our one big asset until someone new get the keys.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) At least once a day haha eventually someone will be correct. And with that, Q will be a White Sox until he retires.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Let's keep this going... I'm expecting a breakout year from him. 12-9, 3.07 ERA, 224 K's, 1.07 WHIP, 10.4 K/9, and 5.2 WAR With those kind of peripherals, he'd probably have an ERA of about half that.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) If I was the GM, the first things I'd do is tell Wade to GTFO, sign Gordon Hayward, and then have Butler recruit CP3. I'd also bring in some quality bench players and let Valentine/Zipser/McDermott have bigger roles on the team to see what they can do. CP3/Butler/Hayward wouldn't be the Warriors or Cavs, but those 3 plus a decent bench would make the Bulls a contender IMO. The easy question here is why would either Hayward or Chris Paul settle for less money and a worse chance of winning a title than other options they have?
  11. Groundhogs day is quite literally the story of the Q trade threads.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) Bruh, you know ss2k5 is one of the more right leaning posters here. Though no where near right leaning today.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) What you're failing to address in this gigantic wall of text is the fact that the Bulls haven't drafted a productive player in quite some time. Why does that change now? They could trade Butler, draft busts with those lottery picks, and then they'll be in a worse position than they were with Butler. I have no confidence in the Bulls to make the right personnel decisions. There is the obvious that it is much easier to draft a star in the top 5 then it is at #20.

  18. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) I do, but clearly you don't. They do not have to bring a candidate up. And former VP Biden agrees. Great. We agree that the Democrats can sit on the Trump nominee as long as they want then.
  19. QUOTE (brett05 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 06:26 AM) You do know how the election process works, right? I am always amazed that you all reach new levels of low each and every day. Actually we all know that never in the history of the United States of America has a Supreme Court nominee been ignored out of the opportunity to even get a vote. Garland's nomination process was also the longest in the history of the United States of America. I think a better question is you know how the Congressional approval process for the Supreme Court works, right?
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) You continue to be a huge disappointment to all of us. And look at who this is coming from!
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) FWIW, I think there's a decent case that they made this ban "constitutional". They included all refugees, so that central American kids will get killed along with Iraqis who worked with the US occupying force. Trump may say he wants to prefer Christians but they've made no moves to do that. They've specifically targeted people from certain countries. Yes those countries are majority Muslim, but there are Christians and Jews in them and some of them would have been refugees. They are casualties as they should have known better than to be born in the wrong country. There is however an equally strong and almost certain case that they are in violation of the law. This text comes from the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965: I'm pretty sure that's quite clear. If that is your approach, voting laws are for all eligible voters...
  22. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) If done right, it can help. The Sox should have been in regular dialog with the Rangers on this, and if the plan was to really use the Rangers as leverage against the Stros, you tell them that. The Rangers obviously want the Astros to pay as much as possible for Q, and if the Rangers really don't have any interest in him, what harm is it to the Rangers to play along? But then the Rangers have to spread the rumor as well, so you don't have media members squashing it. There is also the chance that the Rangers were trying to fly under the radar.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) This came from Offman first. It seems pretty clear the Sox leaked this locally, then nationally. Then Rangers media members placed calls to their sources with the Rangers, and it got shot down. It does show that clearly moving Q is still priority #1 right now. Yeah, the Sox really want to get him, Robertson, and Frazier done. The "interest" articles keep coming on a regular basis.
  24. I don't know if anyone has posted this, but there have been no recent Robertson talks with the Jays. http://www.bluejays101.com/2017/01/31/blue...obertson-talks/
  25. Yeah, I'd love Mazara at the top of a deal. Mendez seems to have a lot of life as a quick rising LHP, plus the Rangers have two other LHPs in their top 10. Other names of interest for me are Tavares, Guzman, Beras, and Jose Trevino behind the plate.
