Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) Eh, this offseason is weird. Glasnow-Jimenez is a swap. Jones has significant value on his own. Glasnow for Jimenez would be an interestin deal, though I would value Jimenez much higher because of the walk issues with Glasnow.

Discussion: How the Sox compete in 2017
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) Bourjos is on a minor league deal and far from a lock to make the 25 man roster I wouldn't read into his signing all that much To me, Bourjos is a place filler. Nothing more. Listening to what was said at Soxfest this weekend, they HOPE to see guys like May and Engel MAYBE at the end of this season. There really isn't anyone else who fits the bill for CF.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Hypothetical trade proposal: Quintana and Reynaldo Lopez to the Cubs for Kyle Schwarber, Eloy Jiminez, Jeimer Candelario, lower-level 4th piece The Cubs have hitting to spare but are looking to shore up their pitching staff and depth. With the Sox, it's obviously the reverse. Schwarber is blocked by defensive limitations; Candelario is blocked by established all stars. Jiminez is one of the top OF prospects in the game. Would you do it? Shwarber really doesn't fit our needs and timeline. I'd rather add guys like Eddy Martinez, Happ, and/or Cease.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 11:46 PM) You're right, something like Tucker, Paulino, Perez, Reed, & Fisher or Whitley would work, but like you said, I can't see the Astros giving up five top 120 prospects in one deal. And again, I have to imagine that one of the teams involved in these talks could easily surpass that deal.

SoxFest Day 1 Impressions - A Clear Direction for Hahn
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 02:43 PM) Kudos the White Sox. I have a 17 year-old nephew battling lymphoma at Lurie's Childrens Hospital and he got a visit the other day from Renteria, Moncada and Giolito. The kid's a Cubs fan but the visit meant the world to him and genuinely lifted his spirits at a time when he can't keep any food down and is battling the effects of chemo. I've seen these pics on twitter and never given them much thought, even dismissed them as publicity stunts. I now know they're much more than that. Already love these new guys! That is pretty awesome.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/01/al-n...p;post-id=84006 Provides a touch more clarity. So it sounds like Houston insists that both Musgrove and Martes are off the table. Looking at their pitching staff, I can't say I blame them. Still think they have the pieces to get a deal done as long as the rest of their MiLB players are available. Reed, Tucker, Fisher, Whitley and Stubbs would still be a nice haul, IMHO. No Martes, No Bregman. LOL, yeah, OK Houston.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 29, 2017 -> 02:45 AM) We all heard the same about Beck coming out of Georgia Southern (projected to go 1-1 to 1-5)...but hopefully Hansen's the real deal. And Basabe should the next position prospect to pop up on that list. No we didn't.

Discussion: How the Sox compete in 2017
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) Same for me. They have to establish a decent rotation and have some long relief to maintain interest from the fan base. Once the Sox trade Quintana and Frazier they aren't going to be getting back any top prospects for other players. That is when the rebuild changes gears and the Sox have to sign some (decent) free agents to fill out the starting rotation and the line-up. The Bourjos signing looks (to me at least) to be a clear sign that Hahn does not expect to trade for or acquire a decent outfielder prospect before the season starts. That's kind of depressing. It only means they aren't expecting a major league ready prospect. But the truth is that you should expect zero of the prospects we just traded for to be on the opening day roster.

SoxFest Day 1 Impressions - A Clear Direction for Hahn
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) I hope the type of reaction they are seeing to the new acquisitions at Soxfest assuages any fears that the fanbase wont tolerate a rebuild. They haven't had a single loss, yet. A couple of years of that will get the pitchforks back out.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Why is Frazier? Guys who follow the team closely seem to indicate Melky is the one most guys turn to in the clubhouse. Obviously the media doesn't talk to him as much, but that ultimately means very little about whether one is a leader or not. I think that answer clears it up.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) If there is a leader the Sox should consider extending it's Melky Cabrera, who to my knowledge has never had to change lockers because he had problems w a teammate. Why is he a leader?

White Sox Sign Peter Bourjos
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) You see no point in signing one of the better defensive outfielders we've seen in the last 10 years to a minor league contract? This really is the kind of guy you would add to a roster like this.

2016-2017 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Like I said, a potential generational talent. Dude is 7'3. I repeat: SEVEN THREE. He can shoot, post, put the ball on the floor and is athletic as f***. His rebounding and defense overall needs to improve. there's a reason (multiple reasons) the Knicks are practically trying to give away Carmelo. They're ready to hand the franchise over to KP right now. If KP maxes out and doesn't get hurt, GMs all around the league will have to spend entire offseasons game-planning for this man. Who do we draft? Who do we trade for? Who do we sign in FA? After Oden, Ming and to a lesser extent Bynum you have to be wary when it comes to guys that damn big and tall. Embiid is another guy you just pray holds up. No. Just walk away. Don't go all Donald Trump on this thread.

In Market Streaming!
QUOTE (soxfan18 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 04:28 PM) I really don't think a full Cubs owned station is ever going to happen. Fully team owned stations very quickly became a thing of the past, with teams realizing there was more value in guaranteed dollars from the networks. Examples: - The Yankees sold 80% of YES to FOX - The Dodgers partnered with Time Warner for theirs - The Indians sold STO to FOX The only reason the Red Sox haven't sold off NESN is that Jeremy Jacobs won't let them (Bruins own 20%). What will happen is either FOX or NBCUniversal will give the Cubs a channel, and it'll be part of the existing streaming deal. There isn't going to be a CubsNet without a media partner backing it. Fox makes a ton of sense. FoxSports Chicago folded after CSN came along. It would get them back into the Chicago market.

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) Which is the exact reason I'm ok with a small extension. The value for power hitting third basemen seems to be very low right now. The White Sox are going to be a very young team and could use a few guys that can steer the ship the clubhouse for a few seasons. If the price is right, I like him for 2017 and 2018 This. You do need some vets to teach the way.

Keith Law Top 100
QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) I don't see Carson Fulmer in the top 100 anywhere. The Sox may have royally screwed him up by rushing him to the Show last year. If he won't rank guys he thinks are relievers, and doesn't like small SP's it makes sense he wouldn't like Fulmer

Frazier Trade Discussion
QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Todd Frazier says he wants to be a part of the White Sox rebuild. Wants to be a leader for the young guys. #soxfest2017 Per Chuck. I've said this all along, would be cool with a short extension for Frazier during this 2-3 year window An extension wouldn't shock me. Of all of the short term players left, he is the most likely, especially with nothing on the horizon at 3B.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) I think they could definitely put a package together that the Sox would consider, it would obviously be more about depth than headliners, but they have a pretty good mix of prospects with proximity and ceiling. Flaherty/Perez/Sierra/Kelly/Arozarena would be a sizable haul, though without a top 10 prospect overall. However, Flaherty, Perez, and Azorarena all have the potential to be top ten guys a year from now. Kelly is as close to an everyday MLB catcher as is out there, and Sierra is a toolsy OF in the mold of Basabe. Sure. But that leaves the door open for a top level team to blow that offer away with a top 10 guy.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 10:21 AM) Nah, just of our ace pitcher. What I always understood is that he was OK with Robin most of the time. It was Kenny Williams that Sale hated.
