  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) In J4L's defense, he said potential. KP will be good but I can't see him being Dirk or anything. Good? Definitely. Star, sure. Generational talent? No. There is no defense for that.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 07:28 AM) As of Tuesday afternoon, they had been 78-0-5 when leading after two periods. I guess they were due? It had been two years.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 05:25 AM) Um, they have KP. A potential generational talent. We don't have that. Oh wow. You just put Porzingus on the same plane as MJ and LeBron. Put it down dude, put it down.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) For those who would like to obssess over a new teams farm system, complete conjecture over a new team that should try to acquire him: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-new-jose-quintana-idea/ If Reyes isn't the headliner, I am not sure that a St Louis offer would beat what about half a dozen other teams could offer to top that.
  5. Two huge flops back to back. Ugh.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 10:25 PM) https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/26/business...yp=cur&_r=0 WASHINGTON — Just days after President Trump spoke of a "running war'' with the media, his chief White House strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, ratcheted up the attacks, arguing that news organizations had been "humiliated" by the election outcome and repeatedly describing the media as "the opposition party" of the current administration. "The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while," Mr. Bannon said in an interview on Wednesday. "I want you to quote this," Mr. Bannon added. "The media here is the opposition party. They don't understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States." The last sentence is 100% true.
  7. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 27, 2017 -> 06:55 AM) Maitan. Don't know much about him, other than what has been posted here in last few weeks. Is he better than Tatis?
  8. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 05:04 PM) If I wanted to move to Mike Madigan's precinct and run against him, how long would I have to live there? Do people in his precinct actually think he's doing a good job and vote him in or is there poor turnout? 2 years. http://elections.il.gov/Downloads/Election...ralassembly.pdf
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) According to Cowley they are so irate that they are going to buyout Rondo. Seems to miss the bigger point of the whole mess. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/rajon-r...ade-on-twitter/ Ha, that was literally my first thought.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) Rondo probably just didn't give a f***. Had something that was bothering him and worse comes to worse he somehow gets out of this mess. Win-win. I honestly think Rondo is trying to get released so he can pick his team.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) So Hoiberg is just Robin Ventura, right? Yeah, except Ventura didn't even manage to completely lose his lockerroom or his player respect.
  12. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) I think there is another possibility in the way the rebuild has gone. I do think it is interesting that the two "problem childs" were traded but not one other trade was made. But competing next year is not realistic. So maybe the front office felt they should do the rebuild over two seasons so that the roster was not a disaster going into sales of 2017 tickets. Then the team can still promote ticket sales for 2017 with guys like Abreu, Anderson and Q. Then do another sell-off in July with the hope that 1 or 2 of the young players already acquired will be ML ready. Then finish the sell off next winter and promote 2018 with Anderson and the young stars that have emerged. Yes. That is exactly why they are floating rumors through the media about Todd Frazier and Jose Quintana.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 05:12 PM) For those who like the Braves as a trade partner, I have to ask how much do you like Kevin Maitan because while he's far away he has to be in any deal in my opinion. If we aren't getting Swanson, Matian is a must for me.
  14. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) Wow. Seems like they're making it easier. Wish I knew that months ago. Well, Indiana is a bit different than Illinois to be fair.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Do you have empirical evidence for thinking his or are you just picking the state with the slimmest margin to use as an example? Maybe I am misunderstanding your point, but I am reading it as you believe that voter ID held 23,000 people back from voting and they were all democrats? I couldn't get behind that. As far as your story, I see it as reigning example of how a lack of competition brings a horrible service. You wait forever at the DMV and they treat you like garbage when you finally get up there. There's no standard or urgency in performance because there's no alternative. That being said, to act as if a 6 hour trip to get an ID is routine, that's just silly. I got a new ID in July on my lunch break from work. Walked 10 minutes there, waited in line for a half hour and walked back 10 minutes. Why would the bolded affect minorities more than anyone else? Are there really people who can't carve an hour out every five years to renew their license or get one at all? I know a single mother with two kids who works 40 hours a week while finishing up her nursing degree. As far as I know she still has a valid driver's license. That being said, the DMV is an awful, awful place. I get my new ID through the mail after ordering it on line.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Regardless, the punishment will be on Americans in the grocery store. So much produce comes from Mexico, remember the poster that claimed inflation was actually rampant because oreos are smaller? This will be much more real shock to the average us consumer. Autos will be a huge one as well.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) That wasn't the point I was trying to make. For one thing, other than Shields and possibly Robertson (if he sucks this year) the Sox don't have any bad contracts. We've seen teams like Milwaukee and Atlanta basically buy prospects. The idea is take on someone who sucks who has some money on the contract and receive a better prospect or greater package. Or alternatively, eat money on someone you trade. If there is a team that needs a veteran bat in LF who has no payroll room, let's use Pittsburgh as an example, the Sox eat some of the contract. Melky is owed ~7M from June on and the Sox eat 4 million of it to get a B prospect they like instead of a C prospect. It's obviously a strategy that is easy for a fan to get behind, "Hey let's let ownership spend more money so we can get more young players" but innovative executives are employing these tactics. The Braves got Touki Toussaint out of this and the Brewers got Isan Diaz out of this. Every bit counts. Ah. Now that I have no problem with. I would like to see the Sox involved in this. They really have no payroll needs until next decade, so why not.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) The Knicks have been a mess since I can honestly remember. It's been a long f***in time. Yeah, the Knicks are the team that the Bulls can look at and say, at least we aren't them.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) The Knicks are the Bulls East in so many different ways. LOL COmplete disarray with both org's right now. Bleacher Report ‏@BleacherReport 9m9 minutes ago More Knicks have reportedly reached out to Celtics and Clippers about a trade for Carmelo Anthony. Hell the Knicks have probably called the Bulls too.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:18 PM) Robertson and $10 million for Pedro Severino and Juan Soto. I'd be OK with that return for sure.
  21. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:16 PM) Cool. Yeah I wasn't sure, but the point was - essentially - that he spent a lot more resources in the rust belt than he did in Texas. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Unprecedented free media coverage. Unless you are saying that Trump allocated his free media coverage better, these two things don't really go together.
  22. Robertson makes sense for Washington, but I can't imagine them paying up for him. Depending on where the Sox are willing to go in this deal, they have some great positional talent in their top 10, plus all kinds of catchers rated throughout their system, plus some interesting international signings in their low minors.
  23. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) How are they going to be terrible if Robertson, Frazier and Abreu all rebound? Seriously that's like 4 wins if those guys "raise their value by the deadline", if Tilson can do anything positive in CF that probably makes up for losing Eaton by itself. Yea they'll get worse losing Sale no doubt but they wont completely fall to being one of the worst three teams in baseball. For them to win fewer than 70 games not only will Frazier, Abreu and Robertson not rebound, it'll probably means they got worse. Or worse yet Rodon and Anderson fall apart. Or nightmare scenario Q gets hurt. That's just as a team managing to """achieve""" a win total. If you want to talk about the offense falling into the woeful Philles/Brewers/Padres nightmare tier, especially with the great Minnesota Twins rotation serving up meat for 19 games, we are talking a cataclysm on offense. Like an absolute bloodbath where nobody is hitting anything. If that happens then you can bet there wont be much value getting improved for the deadline. Nobody seems willing to rectify this at all. Everyone just seems convinced that all the players they want traded will have MAGICAL years of resurgence and value raising, and that Rodon will have a massive season and that all their losses will become of the GRR VILLIANS like Avi and Tilson. Its all fantasy, its trying to convince yourself that what you want to happen for the Sox will happen. Again, literally NO ONE has said this. A lot of individuals have made picks of one or two specific players that they think will rebound. Literally no one has said they ALL will rebound. Stop saying this. This is a flat out lie.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) Looking like an August road trip to New England this coming summer. My wife and I, and kids aged 8.5 and 5 at that time. Who has any recommendations on things to do, places to stay, etc.? All ideas are helpful! Also we will be stopping to see Niagara Falls on the way to or from, so any recommendations on that are also happily accepted. Go hive mind! If you are going to do Niagara the best way to do it is to do the Canadian side. The best thing we did while up there was to sign up for an all-encompassing tour through our hotel. For a fraction of the price of doing each of the attractions individually (journey behind the falls, maid of the mist tour, etc) we got to do like 5 or 6 different things, plus we did them with our group only instead of with the general public. The best example was in the Maid of the Mist boat ride, there were only the 13 of us in our tour group, versus the hundreds that they cram on for a normal boat tour.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:30 PM) These were all at least partial factors in a very close election. You can argue that Clinton shouldn't have been as vulnerable to them as she was and that a different candidate would still have beaten Trump, but it seems silly to just dismiss that they played any role at all. The problem is the idea that all of the factors that apparently beat the Democrats were unrelated to anything involving their Democrats, their policies or their candidates. The primary factors for their election's results are Hillary CLinton and Donald Trump.
