  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) Spencer Adams Aaron Bummer Zack Burdi Brian Clark Zack Collins Nicky Delmonico Jace Fry Courtney Hawkins Danny Hayes Michael Kopech Matt Purke Those are surprises for me.
  2. Jay was the name leading up to the draft that was most connected to the White Sox.
  3. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) I'd throw NDT a vote. It would be nice to have him authoritatively smack down a debate opponent pushing anti-science nonsense too. Yeah, I mean you really can't argue that he doesn't know his stuff.
  4. Out of the goofiness of this list comes a more interesting thought. With the growth of things like reality TV, and science shows, we actually have a few science celebs out there now. It would be interesting to try to see if a guy like Neil Degras Tyson (or pick someone else) is someone that could drafted into running for office to get science into the mainstream again.
  5. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Meadows, Newman, Keller , Hayes, Diaz. If Meadows is included, we aren't getting as much quantity. The only way we get five players is if Bell and Meadows aren't in the deal, or we get a bunch of low rated players.
  6. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) Toews had 4 points (really 3) last night. Maybe he's about to turn it on Hopefully him giving up an EN goal the other night to a teammate was the start of something good.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) I will be shocked if Rondo can find a home at his cost. Since Boston: - Flunked out of Dallas - Flunked out of Sac - Flunked out of Chicago Oh yeah gimme gimme! Unless you get a bulls pick and have space to just suck it up and cut him, will be hard to find a team. The Bulls will give him away for literally anything at this point. I doubt we get anything for him and end up releasing him.
  8. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) I reached out to Jameson to see if he will be ready for ST. I know he missed time last season on several occasions when he dove for balls on defense and re-aggravated his shoulder he previously had surgery on. That is just pure speculation though. The shoulder would be my guess too, but that is scary to me.
  9. QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 09:30 AM) Will royals go after Jose Quintana with ventura passing. Even if you throw out the division aspect, I don't see them having a top end position player future star that would catch the Sox interest.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Law's evaluations of bats have been as good as any publication writer over the internet age. He's outstanding. If I like a guy (on the position side) and then I hear Law likes him, I'll dive in and usually come out looking good. Law's evaluations of pitchers is almost like punching in numbers into a system. Under 6'1"? Under 185? Automatic reliever. 6'3"+ but very thin frame? Automatic reliever. Throws hard with bad mechanics? Automatic reliever. Law wants every pitcher to be 6'4" 215 lbs with perfect mechanics. I just don't think mechanics are as predictable as Law's writeups would give credence to. It's not even like he would argue that but he just bets on the workhorse bodies and does his presumptuous, writing-off of any guy who doesn't apply. Frankly, it's not the worst strategy given the tough task that Law has to do but at the same time, he knows some of these unconventional deliver/smaller body guys are going to work out and they're going to keep making him like bad (See Sale, See Carlos Martinez, Hopefully see Reynaldo Lopez). Good call.
  11. Interesting. One of the bits I caught was that it sounds like something is wrong with Fisher, do we know anything more about that?
  12. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 08:46 PM) Devers is clearly superior to Kopech as a prospect. Point is Hahn was willing to back off on his demands for Sale but not so with Quintana. And before anyone says "WELL WE DONT KNOW THE OFFER FROM LUHNOW"...yeah, we do know it. You can combine the reported Sox demand with the Rays offer and figure that the hangup is Joe Musgrove or (and I'm just assuming this because it makes sense) Bregman. If Hahn was willing to give up on Devers, a fringe top 10 overall prospect in the game, for Sale then why isn't he budging from Musgrove? Musgrove is good but he's not THAT good. The only explanation that makes sense is that there was extra motivation to deal Sale. Whether it was because of the jersey incident and LaRoche embarassment or them identifying a fatal flaw poised to torpedo Sale's career (this is actually plausible, Sale was frustrating to watch at times last year) I dont know, and I dont think anyone ever will exactly. NOT SAYING THE REBUILD IS A FARCE NOT SAYING THERE IS A CONSPIRACY Just saying have just been players valued more than others based on little, if any, apparent baseball merit. This sounds like a Donald Trump speech. You aren't going to say it out right. You are just going to make a bunch of innuendo and hints about it, and pretend that isn't what you are saying so you can be right with both sides, and then just make up anything else to fit the narrative. You can't just take an offer to another team for another player and assume that is what we are being offered, especially when a report is out there that contradicts that.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) You really want everyone and everything to be the GOAT don't you? And here I thought the Heat had this decade wrapped up.
  14. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) It has been reported that Hahn's demand was Moncada+Kopech+Devers and Dombrowski refused to give that up. Hahn settled for Basabe and Diaz, which is a pretty huge downgrade from Devers at this point in time. I would think this part is obvious, but I will say it anyway. The difference you are talking about is the third piece in a deal. What we aren't getting offered in a deal for Q is the #1 piece we want. Negotiating on the 3rd player is much different than the first. We got the top prospect in baseball to start the Sale deal. We aren't even getting anyone's top prospect in their system in a deal for Q.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) That simply has not been proven to be true. All I have to say is this...could you have gotten Andrew Benintendi at the deadline last year? He is someone you might not have identified last offseason. THERE WILL BE OTHER GUYS THAT TAKE HUGE STEPS BETWEEN NOW AND JULY. I know of two that wouldn't have been, that we got now.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 10:51 PM) I don't know about Chicago, but most municipalities have a much lower or sometimes non-existent sales tax on foods. The poor will tend to spend more of their money on those things. Indiana has zero tax on groceries, fresh food, and medicine. It always amazed me that places tax those things.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) Jesus these riots are ridiculous. Not to mention stupid. All you do is give the other side of things an easy excuse to not listen to you. I won't achieve anything.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) lol can you imagine if Obama screwed the avg person out of $400/year how you'd have reacted? Call it a mandate, that will make it all better.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 12:55 PM) I just purchased the domain letsimpeachthedonald.com. Who wants to help me get this up and running? Two thoughts here. #1 The odds of impeachment are about zero with a Republican Congress. #2, By doing something public, you make yourself, and your family a target for all of the idiots who go about attacking people for going after Donald Trump. You had better be sure this is worth it if you go public.
  20. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) "Absolutely nothing"? Not the fact that comparable deal for an inferior pitcher was turned down by the Rays? Might want to reconsider your words because to me there is strong indication that the Astros are willing to include almost any combination of minor league talent. The issue is Hahn is probably still pestering them over Musgrove and Bregman, because he apparently hasn't gotten the message that those guys aren't on the move. Absolutely nothing = reports both on what the White Sox asked for, and what HOU offered TB.
  21. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) I too wonder why he's never mentioned with LAD. Supposedly they are looking for a right handed hitter which he is. Is he still hurt? Anyone hear injury update? Love to get Barnes from them for Lawrie, even if we have to add a little. At this point Lawrie isn't going to get us anything more than fringe guy, if that much. The only way he gets more is if we added in something like a reliever.
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) It wouldn't, but people are convinced that if the Sox dont get Mike Trout for Jose Quintana its a disaster. Mike Trout does the White Sox no good as of now.
  23. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) They will need 3 outfielders, 3rd baseman, 1st baseman, contingency plan for Collins at C and middle relief. A closer might be needed too we'll see with Burdi. That's just assuming Anderson and Moncada work out and the arms the Sox have already stockpiled fill out the rotation with little issue. It'll put the Sox right back where they were a couple months ago with a top heavy roster that lacks an adequate supporting cast. I thought the idea was to NOT have any more Jimmy Rollins' anymore? I guess that's changed. But we have all of these pitchers we'll be able trade!
  24. I know we have gone to the complete and other end of the pendulum, but don't forget that Quintana is signed for the next four years. If you are really looking at a 2019 timeline for being competitive, Q is under contract til 2020. He could still be on your next playoff team if you really believe that is your window. If you don't get an offer that looks to significantly out perform what Q will be able to bring you by the next time you think you will be a playoff team, you sit on him.
