  1. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:17 PM) or else what? Or else they really have doomed themselves to another decade of failure.
  2. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:16 PM) The value of a closer is higher than ever thanks to the Royals winning in 2015. That's not evidence that prospects are worth less now. The fact is, you can't get a number of teams' prospects anymore. There are so many off limits players in every org now. Snap out of it, dude. The #1 prospect has never been traded before. In the deal for Chris Sale, he was part of a 4 player trade.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:11 PM) Not because of the way Giolito is viewed. Pick a trade. What would Aroldis Chapman drawn 10 years ago in a deadline deal? What would Andrew Miller have brought back? Neither brings back nearly as many prospects back then.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) What? Oh no you did not. It takes more and more of them than ever to get a deal done. 10 years ago, A Giolito would have gotten Eaton alone.
  5. If not Bregman, they had better clean off Houston's next five top position player prospects. Really they need Bregman worse than ever.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:03 PM) Hahn mentioned in both press conferences this would be "an extended process." We've already seen things change in terms of our draft and development, and now we're seeing an absolute liquidation of mlb talent to infuse the farm system with the kind of talent to compete with anyone. I have absolutely no idea what there is to be upset about. This is not the breakup of the '98 Bulls. This is breaking up "mediocrity" for the promise and hope of sustained success. I respect ss2k, but as he has often said to others who get frustrated and threaten to quit following the team, don't let the door hit you on the way out. It isn't the break up. It is not learning why you are forced to sell in the first place. I can't believe they didn't learn this lesson.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:58 PM) You could flip these same three guys for more than you could Eaton Eh. I think one thing we have learned this winter is that on the trade market, prospects are worth less than ever before. It seems like it takes more and more of them to get deals done. These guys have to turn into actual star major leaguers before they will have real value.
  8. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Yes. Nothing spells failure more than when you don't fill any holes with your top two chips.
  9. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:49 PM) Are you letting your position that the Sox can't rebuild cloud your judgment? They are proving it as far as I am concerned.
  10. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Lol - your reaction to all of this is very surprising, given the efforts you've undergone in the past few years to put lipstick on the pigs that were the '13, '14, '15, and '16 seasons. I have said for months that if you went this direction you had to do it right, and build your position players. In the two biggest deals of the off season, they have probably came out even. It is a huge failure so far.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:22 PM) Why so glum, chum? The offseason isn't over yet. Heck, the winter meetings aren't over yet. It's quite possible, if not probable, that Hahn will convert Q into a similar haul but only of a positional player nature. Then we will have replenished both our pitching and our hitting deficits. Isn't that enough to turn your frown upside down? You've won me over. This really is the dumbest organization in baseball. Only the White Sox could lack position players, and then trade their best chips for pitching. We need to fire everyone up top and start over.
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:13 PM) Maybe. But instead of watching such dread with no help in sight from the minor leagues, now we can enjoy the anticipation of this new and talented wave of young players arriving on the scene in the next year or so. We had no such hopes in these previous horrible years under the misguided direction the team went during that time. Unless I live in Charlotte or Birmingham, nothing has changed.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:08 PM) What I love about this trade is that when the dust settles, and we look up, and see that Sale and Q are no longer here, what we will see are the names Rodon, Fulmer, Giolito, Kopech, Lopez, Hansen, and Burdi. That is as promising a view on the pitching standpoint as any team in baseball, even after giving up the two elite guys. But we'll also see the future MVP in Moncada, whomever we get for Q (obviously presuming top positional prospects), Anderson, and Collins for positional players. How is THAT for your new core! No, this is encouraging, Ladies and Gentlemen. Very encouraging, indeed. Certainly more so than living through continued Rollins, Navarro, Jackson, and Latos signings. Good riddance to that nonsense! The irony here is that those are the exact sorts of players you will be watching this year.
  14. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) Sox getting the number 1 pick will never feel better. Can't wait LOL You'll be used to it soon enough.
  15. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) Come on, you know what the Sox are doing now isn't what they have done previously. You're better than that. I see your point, I really do. BUT, as been mentioned, there is still work to be done, and none of us know what was on the table. Are you suggesting the Sox take a lesser deal if it meant position prospects were offered, and not pitching? In my eyes, when you are talking about top tier prospects, you take the talent, worry about the position later. With all of the position players out there, there are plenty of smarter deals. I have littered multiple threads with all kinds of names that made more sense for the White Sox. A deal with Washington can include a Gio or Lopez, but you have got to bring back a Robles too, even if means you take less than a Dunning at the 3rd player. At the end of the Red Sox deal, don't bring back a reliever, bring back a position player of some sort.
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:49 PM) Uh, this is a 180 from that. No, it isn't. We still haven't fixed the main problem in this franchise.
  17. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) How long did the Cubs rebuild take? And how long will they be a dominant force? Hey great. Did you notice the emphasis on position players that they brought in? Did you notice the half a billion dollars they spent in free agency?
  18. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) So what would you have liked to seen done? From a big picture standpoint. We needed position players. We needed to target those types of players. Some pitching is fine. Almost all pitching is terrible. That is our problem now. How is that fixing anything? I mean apparently the plan is to keep doing the exact same thing we have been doing, but it is great because it will be new players doing it? Blah. I hate this so much.
  19. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) You seriously need to start thinking about a 2-3 year plan instead of judging one trade at a time. You're being too shortsighted about this. But whatever man, keep feeling bad like you seem to want to. But like I said, you keep posting this garbage... NO ONE here is buying it. Hit the log out button or find another topic to participate in. You're rhetoric is old and at this point is just annoying. We all know you hate the deal. Now go away and let the rest of us celebrate. The net of our two biggest trade chips and we got one future star position player (at best) for one current one. We got a lot of pitching. There is no reason to celebrate this as a "plan".
  20. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) Yep. Couple things to add: 1) Like has been mentioned here previously, we all assume that Q moves for position player headliners; 2) Part of the problem last year, at a minimum, is that the rotation was brutal after the top 3 with not a lot of immediate help in the system after Fulmer. The depth of pitching in the system today is great. 3) There are two very early picks coming. It's hard to imagine the Sox aren't going to be picking in the top 3 in the '18 draft. Bats are going to be a priority in those drafts. The fact that people are complaining about Eaton for a top 5 prospect, a top 40 prospect, and a first round pick in the '16 draft is baffling to me. We will be picking high in the draft for the rest of the decade, that is for sure.
  21. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) 1000% Look on social, turn on the radio. Sox fans want a road map. They want a plan. A foundation. This is a hell of a start. Their plan so far seems to be hoping that they can become the same team they were three years down the road. A hell of a start is one way to describe it.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) I'd say it was about having enough talent in the organization that you're not trying to buy an entire roster on the FA market, you're looking for a key final piece or two. Which we have not done in any sense. We still don't have any position players.
  23. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) This is fair, but loading up on arms means you have tradeable assets to get proven, MLB ready bats when the roster is ready to compete for real. Funny, that is exactly what the rebuild was supposed to be about now.
  24. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) So the alternative, Kenny, is to continue to try to plug guys in and hope for lightning in a bottle (and fail) and continue to win 78-82 games, miss the playoffs and not get a good draft pick out of it? Oh, and still have no one show up in the park come July/August? No thanks. We HAD to get position players. That is what got us into this mess in the first place.
  25. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:32 PM) I like the rebuild but can I just say there will be no jubilation come April when they can't even sell out Opening Day? When we get into the thick of its it's going to get scary ugly. Those who pay close attention in the winter make a fanbase not. This is going to be a miserable few years. And now I don't even see a light at the end of the tunnel. Apparently we didn't learn the lesson that you need get who can hit and catch the ball.
