  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:02 PM) My point was Sale got away with a lot of s*** that is unacceptable because of his talent. Obviously sports provide superstar treatment, but people need to stop acting like its excusable, because if one player does it and it's insane, it's insane for all players. And I think 99% of other players don't even ask. But because Sale got away with stupidity in the past, he had no problem asking. To me that is start treatment.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Hoiberg is a bad coach. Period. We also have an awful bench, horrific. Yeah, I have yet to see any evidence that he can coach defensively.
  3. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) Does not mean he got to try on the jersey months before. And without knowing the details behind the scene, who knows Sale didn't bring up this issue before and FO chose to ignore, so he went the extreme? I am saying he's a rebel and a hard head. But there is a fine line between that and an "asshat" that being thrown around here. And come on, it's like you're comparing Jimmy Butler or D Wade to Denzel Valentine or Doug McDermott here. In every sport, your best players are always treated differently by THE TEAM. I didn't hear Sale asking for superstar treatment here. Asking a team NOT to have a jersey because he didn't like it sure sounds like the superstar treatment to me.
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:43 PM) This rumor has three way deal written all over it. Something like Q+Eaton to the Nat's, Gio Gonzalez to Yanks for prospects and the Sox get a huge combo of players from the Nat's and Yanks. Or something to that effect. That makes a lot more sense. If you take Turner off of the table, a deal isn't possible. But if you start tapping into what the Yankees have to offer, that changes the equation.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) I don't think anyone is saying Sale isn't a stellar teammate. He seems like the type of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. He just has authority problems and can act insane sometimes. I know I have a similar temper sometimes when playing sports, but I don't make millions. Ultimately it's not a reason to trade him, King Felix is the reason to trade him and Sale will always be a South Side legend who I'd love for them to get back one day. Despite that, he's an insane SOB which is his biggest strength and weakness. This is the best post made on this topic yet. You have to acknowledge the guy has major problems with authority, but it also seems to be channeled into winning games for most of the time. The problem is that Sale can't always control when the crazy comes out. At least twice it has hurt the team with his missing time because of it in the form of suspensions.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Man this is one I have to say I'd be pissed without Turner. But why on EARTH would Eaton be valuable to them if he's not pushing turner to SS? Not to mention that Turner has to be a way better CF than Eaton anyway. Not sure that helps them then. You have Bryce Harper in RF, so that ain't happening.
  7. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) It was a mistake. He meant Desmond. Ah. Nevermind then.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) They signed Fowler and Desmond? Bob Nightengale Verified account ‏@BNightengale 1h1 hour ago Dexter Fowler bet on himself last year, and won big time with his $70M deal with #Rockies
  9. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) Unless I'm missing something here, besides the jersey cutting incident here, what other instances can we point to to conclude Chris Sale is an "asshat"? Trying to get into the Royals clubhouse to fight someone after being ejected in the brawl.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) Does having Moncada make it more likely that we would keep Abreu around for another year (kind of a stabilizing Cuban presence to help Yoan assimilate)? More. And the door to the Rockies is seemingly closed with their signing Fowler and Desmond.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) Yes, but the point is, it is just pissing it away. If they want to piss it away, it's their money. But the only good coming from the White Sox signing Derek Holland would be from Mr. Holland's bank account. He wouldn't be successful, and wouldn't be able to eat innings. If it were the Twins or Royals, they should be all over this guy. Not the White Sox. Look for a better fit. The White Sox are pretty much in the same position as the Twins.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) This type of package would have to include Turner. Nats most certainly have the prospects to pull it off. Totally. And with getting Eaton, you give them five years of Eaton for six years of Turner so it covers up that loss.
  13. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) As much as we all want Turner it's not going to happen. Maybe a Gioloto, Robles, Lopez, Servino, Difo, Freede. I can also see us getting back other MLB guys along with Gioloto, Robles, and Lopez such as Ross or Taylor or something along those lines. But there aren't going to give up Turner it just isn't going to happen. If the Nationals get Eaton, that would be the one way to free a Trea Turner in the deal.
  14. And there we go... Daryl Van Schouwen ‏@CST_soxvan 5h5 hours ago Chris Sale on Boston: "Realistic chance of winning the World Series. Dedicated ownership, front office guys committed to winning annually."
  15. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeyman 29m29 minutes ago Dodgers like Frazier and talked to chisox but first choice at 3B remains keeping turner. No plan to accede to 5-yr hope tho
  16. George Ofman @georgeofman Sox and Nats talking Quintana/Eaton package. Let's we where this goes.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Nobody thought Sale was bad in the clubhouse with teammates. He just hates authority. This. He can't handle being told something he doesn't want to hear.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:47 AM) This live tweeting is detailed. Never knew about the submarines. Tweeting about when the Japanese planes took off is eerie. There have been some great features on both history and PBS in the last month on Pearl Harbor. Tons of great info and factoids I never knew. For example, the first version of the speech goes "... a day that will live in world history."
  19. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) Robertson's value now is lower than it's been for the past few years, so there's no point in selling low. Unless he morphs into Billy Koch, there will be a market for him by late July. I really think he is a great bounceback candidate. I think a decent amount of his problems last year were due to usage and injuries.
  20. On a related note, ISO of someone with photoshop skills who can whip up a new banner... JS
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) And I find it rather disgusting that you can't avoid making it personal the moment someone disagrees with you and takes a different opinion of available information. I made a point about baseball. You could disagree with it without going after me personally. [slow nod]
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) No, but the reality is it's just pissing it away. Again, I don't have a list of guys, but there should be others who maybe strike people out or throw groundballs when everything is right. Those are the types to take chances on. Not some guy whose style doesn't fit the ballpark when he is 100%, which he probably will not be or Texas doesn't let him go. Aren't you the one who is fond of saying that it isn't your money?
  23. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) It'll be interesting to see what gets leaked about Sale in the coming months. Sale needs to tread lightly in Boston, or the media there will tear him a new one. To be honest, I am mildly surprised that we haven't had a Sale meltdown.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) You keep saying this. Jose isn't going to get some giant raise this year. It is likely he will make roughly $12M, which is a very modest raise on what he made last season. Sure, if he comes out and has a monster 2017, that may go to $15M or so the following year, but 2 years of control of a masher at ~$15-16M AAV is not crazy. You're putting way too much emphasis on this, IMO. Each raise sucks up surplus value, and reduces the return on any potential deal.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) I get signing rehab projects and hoping to get something, but this is a guy who first of all is always hurt. OK, you get fortunate and he's healthy. Secondly, gives up a lot of home runs. Not good where the Sox play. Third, throws very few groundballs. Again, not good on the southside of Chicago. He's the kind of guy who is behind the eight ball if things go his way. There has to be someone out there to if it all goes right, has a decent chance of success. Holland just needs too many miracles to get something of value for him. After the contracts that guys like Rich Hill and Brandon McCarthy got, I don't think injury is even that big of a deal anymore.
