  1. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) I get the Carrier deal is less than ideal, and Trump is obviously playing the game and getting rewarded for doing it (something I would actually give his team/campaign credit for...I honestly didn't think they had the skills to do something like that). Howeva, I have to say, the response is kind of funny. That tax break move to keep jobs home isn't anything new. Illinois has done it for decades. Caterpillar a few times, Exelon just recently. And while it's not some great fix and i'm not really a fan of it personally, the cost is negligible. I read it was like $870 per job "saved." That pays for itself in income taxes in one year alone. Totally agree here. These deals are done on a daily basis. Hell Rahm just blew himself today about getting the McDonalds ground breaking on its HQ started. Tax incentives to get businesses to move a town over, and to stay in a town are incredibly common. Hell as a part of a local board, I have personally voted on approving parts of some of them in a town of 30k people.
  2. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) At least Rick has been clear that this IS a rebuild. That's something Sox fans have seen on the other side of town. If we're going to be bad, let's be bad and rebuild, not be bad and go for it every year. You should be in marketing.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:20 PM) Still don't see the logic when a Gomez or Tilson can hold the spot before a natural CFer like Basabe takes over in 2019. Maybe we get Robles, too? We left Anderson at SS instead of moving him to CF and that worked out fine. Let him find one comfortable position on the infield before we end up moving him to yet another position. Plus watching him and Anderson together will be a scout's dream, barring any injuries. About the best argument is protecting him from injuries (in the middle of the diamond), and we've seen our share in the outfield (Jared Mitchell, Schwarber, Avi, Tilson, Rowand, etc.) as well. I don't see the logic at putting a freak athlete at a position that utilizes his athletic ability about as little as possible.
  4. Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 56m56 minutes ago Andrew Benintendi was never an option for #WhiteSox. Yoan Moncada was added later in process. Bregman, T. Turner never offered.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) I'm not sure I agree with that...let's see what else they do though. I think that is one of the easiest things to project. Sox fans are pretty simple in that the more you lose, the fewer show up. They don't really buy into things until after the fact of winning.
  6. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:53 PM) 2B and CF and 3B are both within about 5% production hitting wise at the MLB level (2016 data) it really doesn't make that much of a difference value wise the important thing is not to screw with the kid. Putting him in CF would be screwing with him and for what upside? That he's an elite CF where at 2B he might just be average? Just not a risk worth taking. This kids value is in his bat and his ability to project as average at 3B or 2B. I would say having an elite CF is a clear enough reason to at least try the kid there. I am thinking more of DRS in the two positions, and the defensive shot that a star CF can give you.
  7. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) A lot depends on if we choose to compete in the 2018 market. We will be at the absolute bottom of our rebuild or close to it in terms of fan support. I would say no pretty clearly on that idea, at least at the mega star level.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) I still think you are being pessimistic. But if you do end up being correct, 2020 will be here before we know it! Just looking at this deal, Moncada is a mid 2017 arrival, in a best case scenario, though I feel pretty good in that being fairly accurate. Unless he absolutely bombs next year, September call up at the latest. Diaz and Basabe are probably late 2018 at best, probably more like sometime in 2019. Kopech put in 52 IP at A+. At a level a year that puts him in the Sept 2018 to 2019 crowd. The depth we currently have in the minors is mostly years away on the top end. Collins could be here as a bat in a year, but that means he is a DH or 1B, and not a Catcher, as that part of his game will require tons of reps to catch up. Fulmer could help some time next year as a starter, but will probably be against an innings cap next year anyway, so probably push him to mid 17 or later. If you want Burdi as a reliever he could help now, but if you want to push him as a starter he is probably years away due to IP needing to be stretched out. Adams has a pretty serious fall off this year in AA, so I wouldn't count on him being a this year player, but it is possible I supposed. I'd say Sept 17, but probably more like mid 18. Sure we will get more guys in other deals, but the star players that could help us in the short term aren't coming to us in those deals.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) From all indications his issues in the infield are similar to Anderson's. Asking him to move to CF doesn't make sense as he'd have the same issues there, probably even more so as he's never consistently played there at any level. Just let him get reps in Charlotte he'll iron out his footwork in the infield. His arm is too good of an asset to move to CF imo. He will more easily be a plus defender at 2B than CF imo. In CF you'd be putting a lot of his defensive value in his routes, and I'm pretty sure if the Red Sox thought he was a natural out there he would already have moved. His arm and his speed seem wasted at 2B.
  10. Blah. I was hoping to see CF. 2B seems to be a waste.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Does anyone know how intl free agency will work this summer? I know that the penalized teams are capped but are the sox capped at any number? Assuming that there are some rules to not allow the remaining teams to avoid penalties the next few years with the CBA going into place. From what I understand, they can pay any player what they want to, but they have a cap as a team that cannot be breached. Something like $5 million.
  12. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) Correct. This is officially Hahn's team now, if we deal Q, Frazier, Melky, Robertson, and Eaton, it sets us up well for the '18 FA class with injecting our minor league system and incorporate some of the talent onto the MLB roster by then. Ladies and Gentlemen, hold onto your butts, the White Sox may be on the radar quicker than we think. Did I mention tanking for a year or two sets us up nicely for a top 5 pick? This trade tells me the opposite. None of the guys they got today are ready. If they get a Swanson, Bregman, Benitdendi etc, yeah, maybe they are closer. Moncada and company probably is adding another year to this cycle. In all seriousness, Sox fans should just forget about competing in this decade.
  13. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) This. The point of this rebuild is to turn a poor farm into a really, really good system. The Boston package got you your headliner, now let's get 8-10 guys for Q and Eaton. Yeah, this is now how you find a mess of starting players for down the line.
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) Could you get Turner, Robles and Giolito for Eaton and Quintana? I don't think that really helps long term. I would want more quantity than that, even if I had to give up one of the star players to do it. If I trade those two in a package, I want two or three front line guys, plus a lot of a teams top 10 besides.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) I feel like greg is going to step his troll game up. done.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) Yeah but if the offers are really 95% of the Sale offers, then I don't know how competitive that kind of offer is. I would guess 95% means you aren't getting the top guy, but the rest of the offer is similar.
  17. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) @BNightengale The #WhiteSox getting besieged with calls now for Jose Quintana, but the Sox are expected to step back, catch breath, before dealing him. Apparently, trading Sale was too much work for the Front Office, they need a break. "Catching breath" = making the other teams sweat and pay up to get him.
  18. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:55 PM) You implied that Sale changing his approach to "pitching to contact" was because of injury concerns. Where's the proof? You also implied that it's abnormal and cause for concern for a major league pitcher to experience dead arm periods. Proof? Really? It was very clearly said during spring training they were going to dial back his effort this year on a pitch to pitch basis in order to make him last through the season and into the playoffs (if needed). The move of the goalposts was that you said no one talked about Sale as an injury risk, which is 100% wrong, and then you switched it to "well everyone does that".
  19. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) Every pitcher deals with those things. They had no problem leaving him out there for well over 100 pitches every start for months on end so I highly doubt they had legitimate concerns about his arm. Nice move of the goalposts.
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Has it been mentioned anywhere that the Sawks are paying Moncada's entire salary? Thats what Bernstein reported on the radio. Bruce Levine reported it.
  21. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Office Space, the gift that keeps on giving.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) LOL. A step down from what they asked for in July. Typical White Sox. Usually get less than what they could have gotten. Not judging the trade. I really don't care. The Sox are in the "prove something" stage with me. They've sucked for so long, I'll just wait and see now. What else could the Sox have gotten?
  23. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) Funny how everyone starts going on and on about how Sale's arm is going to fall off the second he gets traded. Now you are just being bitter. Sale's health has always been a topic of concern, especially when he would get his annual dead arm phase, his extra days off, and this year with the complete change in his pitching style to dial it back so that he could maybe stay healthy.
  24. And the award for biggest jump to conclusions goes to...
  25. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:01 PM) I didn't even consider that. It just seemed so typical of Reinsdorf to refuse to pick up contract money like that. It seems like that would be a loophole you wouldn't want open as a way around caps. Get someone else to sign and pay, and then trade them something later.
