Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (cornball @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) Personally, I think the Pirates are a great match for Q. They have several high rated players blocked and could easily come up with a package. The Pirates are also ultra-conservative when it comes to deals. I could see the four years of control being attractive, but I also don't think they are going to be willing to package up what is needed to get it done.

Weekly Farm Update 12/13
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Yeah, Scott Merkin pointed that out to us right away (at least we know he reads our stuff!). I just fixed it. Stupid Google. That is honestly pretty cool that we have media members who are taking apart articles like that.

White Sox looking to deal Robertson
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Miami has nothing to trade. They'll just sign Ziegler IMO They have a decent amount of pitching, and not much else.

Otani to be posted in 2017 Offseason
So the question becomes, would it be worth blowing your entire years signing allotment to bring Otani over?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) With Reed there is the Anthony Rizzo comp that gives you enough hope to be excited about the guy even if you dont believe in him that much. His value has really tanked now too, he's basically a throw in to these deals. He's probably 3rd on depth chart at 1b for them behind Gurriel and Marwin Gonzalez, and this is a team that still seemed pretty hot in their pursuit of EE until something happened at 11th hour that really turned them off. Perhaps a failed medical who knows. When it comes to Reed, you have to trust your scouts and baseball people. They will be able to tell you if the debut was a fluke, or if there is fire there. Plenty of people flop in their MLB debuts only to come back and have big careers. Heck, Robin Ventura was 0-41 during his debut.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) For what it is worth, Stubbs was outhit by Tim Tebow in the Arizona Fall League and batted only .171 in 20 games That just signals that Stubbs is far from sniffing the mlb level Most of the guys we have gotten are years away from MLB.

Interview with Nick Hostetler, Scouting Director
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:12 PM) Blake's rehab is coming along nicely. I'm excited for the kid if he comes back well. He just had his first throwing session since TJS Blake Hickman @BlakeHickman18 18h18 hours ago First day of throwing went well. Felt great to get back after it a little bit.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
If the Sox aren't getting a mess of top position players as an offer, go into next season with Q. They have four seasons of control here. There is no good reason to undersell on him.

Danks to the Braves

Frazier Trade Discussion
Interesting to think of it in these terms. Jansen's $80 million deal turns into a $154 million deal with the next luxury cap penalties included. With the old 50% threshold it would have been $120. The Turner deal at $64 million turns into 123.2 million versus $96 million under the old CBA. These two contracts are costing the team an EXTRA $61.2 million in penalties that weren't there a month ago. That total is barely smaller than the White Sox all time biggest contract in franchise history.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) I'll throw this out there for entertainment purposes only. Offer Q + Reliever ( Jennings or Putnam) for Reed, Fisher, Martes and Whitely. If that's close but Houston isn't quite satisfied then offer to take Singletons contract off their hands as part of the trade. Houston gets Q + one of Jennings/Putnam for Reed/Fisher/Martes/Whitley/Singleton. Is that close? Kinda feels like it still favors the Sox to a point Houston says no. Thoughts? I doubt the Singleton deal is that big of a deal. We are only talking about a couple of million a year.

Salary Relief
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) I agree with the general idea , but the new luxury tax rules are being phased in. For 2017, teams are penalized the avearage of the old rules and new rules. In 2018, the new rules take over. Also, I thought I saw that if Q is traded we will have something like $3 million committed in contracts in 2018, although with Shields I'm not sure how that can be true. The new top end luxury tax penalty is 92.5%, versus I believe 50%. For a team already in debt problems, that could be a huge problem.

Salary Relief
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) I don't see how that really works out for all involved. In the short term, the tax teams would just bite the bullet because if they give their better prospects away to save money, they will be in the position of having to spend more money to remain competitive because their system sucks. The Dodgers have the prospect depth to do it though.
-
Salary Relief
I would love to see them dig into the Dodgers position player prospect stash, and taking on a player or two in salary relief to do it is perfectly fine with me. They just have so much talent laying around, including power bats, catchers, July 2, and Cuban players so you really can build any kind of deal you want with them.

Oh, and to not be the grammar nazi guy... that was an amazing read. Hos is by far my favorite read of anyone in this organization. Great job with the great questions Brian!

Assessing the White Sox Future and Hawk's Announcing Future
I also think that a year like this will make it more likely that Hawk walks away in the next year or two.

Assessing the White Sox Future and Hawk's Announcing Future
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 11:36 PM) Benetti is ok but he is too corny and too generally naive or ignorant about the nuances of the game for my liking. Stone is fine imo. He is a know it all but most former player analysts are. Hawk? Dude, he needs to be put out to pasture. He was fun in his prime but those days are long passed. Hawk will die in the booth if JR lets him and that is not how it should end. I think he is fine, but after not hearing him for a while, and listening to the other Chicago guys do there thing, it is now obvious to me he was trying too hard. He just needs to relax and don't be afraid of some dead air. Better than trying to just fill dead air with anything.

Trade/FA Predictions for Rest of Off Season
In terms of what is cheap right now, I'd like to see the team target power bats, in anticipation of that market starting to swing the other way again.

Fangraphs not optimistic on Anderson's bat
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 06:44 AM) Iirc, similar things were said about Alexei and he turned out just fine. Heck, Alexei even learned how to draw more walks. The Sox are rebuilding, Anderson is just 23 years old and I see nothing to be worried about at this point. I actually like the Alexei comp for TA at the plate. Both were very long levered. Long arms, long legs, long swings. But both have such quick hands to make up for it, and turn it into surprising power when they make contact.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 02:48 AM) I would be very interested in Severino + Soto. Having Severino's glove would go a long way with a young staff and additionally allowing the sox to bring along Collins behind the dish slowly. Yes. This. Getting one of their July 2 kids would be a nice way to finish a Robertson deal./

White Sox win the offseason - again!
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 05:53 PM) This is insane man. They are setting themselves up nicely to be pretty good and fun in 2019. Looking at arrival time lines, plus normal bust rates, 2019 is pretty insane. .500 if everything goes right. 2017 is a wasted year. 2018 will see most of the early players start their first season here. 2019 will start to see the younger players start to hit the majors. Think about it. If they guys in A and High A now go a level a year, that puts them in the majors around Sept of 2018 or 2019. It will take a fair amount of time after that for guys to settle in and learn the league.
