President-Elect Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) In 2008, Obama had real political principles and policies. But he thrived because he was able to move a lot of people emotionally with "Hope and Change". In 2016, Trump had no real political principles, and barely cared about policy at all. But he was an absolute beast at grabbing hold of people emotionally and stoking their passions (for better and worse). Charisma/salesmanship is the name of the game now. I think policy nerds are gonna be fighting for VP slots. This is a really good point.

President-Elect Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 09:35 AM) LOL love republicans. Get the government out of regulating everything! Except abortions and gays, let's make sure to regulate the hell out of them. That's cool with us. These are quite literally the areas that I lost touch with the GOP at.

President-Elect Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 9, 2016 -> 07:13 AM) ive gotten the feeling in the past that Trump is ok with gay marriage so I would kind of be shocked if that was over turned. He was OK with it in the past, but who knows if that is one of the positions he punted on as he lurched right.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 11:17 PM) would they try to f*** with gay marriage? They can try, but the Supreme Court has pretty well laid down the law there.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 11:15 PM) I think there's a sizeable part of the latino community that is just as much anti-amnesty as others. They got here the hard way and don't like the people coming the illegal way. One thing that popped up previously is the religious aspect of the Latino community. They have been traditionally very anti-abortion and anti-Gay marriage. I wonder if the religious aspect beat the racial one?

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 11:10 PM) HARRY ENTEN 11:58 PM There's going to be a lot of talk about white voters after the election, but looking at the exit polls, that's not the full story. A big part of the story is that Clinton underperformed Obama with blacks and Hispanics. Clinton is winning only 88 percent of the black vote. Exit polls in 2012 had Obama at 93 percent. Clinton is only at 65 percent among Latinos. Obama won 71 percent of them. Barack Obama got more of the white vote then Hillary Clinton did.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) She didnt go to Wisconsin 1 time. She could have spent 5 hours to go between Madison/Milwaukee to tell people how important it is to vote and take nothing for granted. That is more of a miscalculation than taking it for granted. She hit a lot of states very hard.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:21 PM) You can register same day. Back when I went to school there waited over an hour to vote. Dane County is at less than 70%. So there is a definite chance. But this is on Hillary, she took a lot of people for granted. I don't think she took anything for granted. She, just like John McCain, didn't excite a lot of people.

There is a sobering thought. So far Hillary Clinton is doing worse among white voters than Barack Obama did.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 10:04 PM) I think we underestimated how fed up people were in this country as I think there are a lot of people voting trumpncause they hate our politicians. Not because they agree with Trump but purely because they hate what our politicians had turned into. Totally agree with this. There is a very unhappy silent portion of the country that feels really left behind hiding in the idiot minority of racists in this bunch.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:48 PM) Also need to remember he never played on great infields in the minors. I think that has something to do with struggles for infielders. I don't think that is nearly as big of a deal as it used to be. The quality of facilities has gone up a lot around the country in the last generation.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:28 PM) Well, question 2 in such a survey should probably be, who did you vote for in 2012? 2008? And next question, which party are you aligned with or registered with, if any? Combine all that, I'd be fascinated to see the numbers. 2012 Liberarian 2008 GOP

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:18 PM) When this is over, I'd love to see people do some post-election research on Gary Johnson voters, and see who their choice would have been among the two major candidates. Very curious who he was really robbing votes from - or maybe it's more or less equal. Speaking for myself, I would have not voted or written in someone if I had to choose between the two.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) Huh? This is happening because tiny counties came out in droves. You just posted the most inaccurate statement, sytatistically speaking, of all-time. I really believe if the Democrats nominated someone other than Hillary Clinton, this election would have been over months ago with the Dems getting a win of historic levels. I also believe that if someone other than Trump was nominated the GOP would have trounced in this cycle as well.
