  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Jerry Owens..............................................he gone So does any team claim him with a 25 man roster spot?
  5. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Mac is gonna make the team. He has earned it though with a great spring. If he has good control, he can be lights out. If MacDougal really is pitching well this year, it means the Sox can essentially bring in a closer in the 5th or 6th inning. That is very powerful, especially if we end up with kids in the starting rotation.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Also, Nix to 15 Day DL, retro to 3/17. That makes sense. Now they get a prolonged try out for Nix, which also serves as insurance for the play of Getz and Lillibridge to start the season. He also gets a full rehab stint now too.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Which contracts are we talking about burning here? The UAW legacy costs for retirees or something I didn't know about? The existing work contracts, as well as the legacy costs. All of the costs of buildings they don't use anymore, and debt they have on their books. Management, labor, executives. Burn it, and start over. This business model does not work. Look at the steel mills as the type of chages that need to be made.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) Yeah, but wouldn't that end up costing a LOT more? In another type of economy where the government wasn't financing everything, bankruptcy would be higher on the list as an option because the government wouldn't be absorbing so much of the blow. I wouldn't think so. It might actually be cheaper in the long run. I really think GM has a better chance at paying off loans when their cost structure has been dramatically reduced, versus with the same albatrosses hanging over them that got them there in the first place. The loans up front might be bigger, but the US auto industry would be much healthier in the long run. Burn those contracts, and get rid of that debt. Its going to happen sooner or later, we might as well not waste all of the payer money we are throwing into this hole right now before we get it done.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) If they went into bankruptcy though, who would finance it, who would be on the hook for that money? Sounds to me like it was a matter of "do you want to waste 15 billion, or 150 billion? The same government that is loaning them money now would be the same government that would finance them through a bankruptcy. In this case the problems that are actually plaguing the automakers would be fixed, instead of acting like just the CEO is the problem at GM.
  10. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) Did we lose to Detroit in the 10th inning? If so, I was freezing my yarbels off at that one as well. Nope. It was 2003 FWIW. We beat the Tigers in regulation time. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=230404104
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) You take billions in government money, you fail to run your business (which we the taxpayers now own) well enough to make things work... you get booted. The taxpayers are now the board, for companies receiving huge bailout dollars. I like it. I'd like it better if it was part of a bankruptcy or bankruptcy-like reorganization, though, and if all the high level execs (and high level union leaders for that matter) went with him. They need a serious re-boot to have a shot at being viable. They need a bankruptcy to fix their problems. The boat is sunk, its just a matter of how long it takes to get to the bottom. The reason they aren't moving forward is Obama knows if they go under, the unions get screwed, and he doesn't want to lose votes from one of his strongest groups of supporters. They could have just of easily pushed them into a government financed bankruptcy and done what they have needed to do for years and get rid of debts and costs. Instead they threw money into a pit. Well surprise, suprise, it wasn't enough.
  12. Raining out opening day would be pretty impressive. I was there 5-6 years ago when it was 35 degrees and rained sideways for about two hours before they started playing.
  13. Luongo really wasn't tested by the Hawks too much last night. It was a pretty pathetic effort for being pretty much the biggest game of the year. They didn't really show much heart until Buff ran Luongo. Then it was scrap-city.
  14. In response, the market is down about 3% and falling... This is what the markets feared most when these bailouts started happening, and that is government interferences in their businesses. Good or bad can be debated, but the fear this puts into the markets, can't. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123841609048669495.html
  15. I gotta say, its been a while since I saw hairpulling in a hockey fight.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) I've always though the consensus on Alexei was that he was athletic and made flashy plays and has a nice arm, but he was too erratic to be called elite. That's how I see the guy. He makes some incredible plays, but then falls asleep on some routine stuff. When I see him on the field, I see Jose Valentin.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) Five bucks says that Obama himself has downloaded music illegally. He's done quite a few things illegally by his own admission. Some of them he doesn't even seem too keen on making legal.
  18. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 08:08 PM) I don't blame Hanley for being pissed off, I've been in similar situations. I think it's retarded how baseball teams like the Marlins and Yankees have hair and facial hair requirements. Facial hair and how long a player's hair is has nothing to do with how they perform on the field, so the notion of "looking professional" is ridiculous. The fact that the Yankees forbid facial hair (except for Giambi last season) is one of the many reasons why I just hate that team. Also, as I said, I've had issues where bosses made a big deal about my facial hair and my 3/4 shorts extending too far below my knees. I almost always have a 5 o'clock shadow of whisters along with my moustache and goatee, it's my style, and it pisses me off whenever one of my bosses tells me to shave. Well, I never shave because they tell me to, I only end up shaving when I feel I need to, and I've never gotten fired or reprimanded for not shaving because I'm one of their top employees, so they can go ef themselves. Also, as for my 3/4 shorts, I think they're much more professional-looking than those regular shorts that cuts off at the knees. People who wear regular shorts that cuts off at the knees have no idea how dorky and "white" they look. Anyway, the Florida Marlins need to worry less about "looking professional" and more on trying to win ball games. Fight the good fight, Hanley! The White Sox are also a team that has requirements for hair length. Don't forget Jerry ordered some haircuts back in spring of 2006.
  19. Put me down for 50. There I said it.
  20. The organization is going to be better off in the long run getting Aaron the innings he needs to develop his secondary pitches. With both Jose and Bartolo seemingly healthy, plus the pen in solid shape, there is no need to rush the kid.
  21. He could just as easily go the Joakim Noah route and cost himself millions by exposing himself as not that good.
  22. The AL Central White Sox 92-70 Twins 86-76 Cleveland 80-82 Kansas City 76-86 Detroit 68-94 The starting pitching staff holds up pretty well, and the pen has a solid year. The offense suffers through tons of inconsistancies, as the lead off role causes many headaches, and lack of RBIs for the middle of the order. Gordan Beckham makes his Sox debut before Dayan Viciedo.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Enjoy riding the pine for the next 5 years Mullens. I'm sure the millions of dollars will help cushion that blow.
