QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Right. Sounds like he's technically following the law, but if you pay taxes to Maryland, that kind of makes you a resident of Maryland, doesn't it? edit: And anyone who wants to use Maryland as an alternative for income tax because it's lower must really have some high ass taxes, because our tax rates really blow ass here. I pay taxes to IL because I work here, but my primary residence is still IN. The legal aspect is beyond me, because I don't know tax law at all, but how can you legally claim to represent a district if you are legally claiming to be a primary resident of another state?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) If a normal person (e.g., not a Congressman who is supposed to live in that district) did that, it probably wouldn't be a big deal would it? I claimed IL residency all the way until I got out of the military because IL didn't tax military pay. My concern is that it techincally makes them ineligible to respresent their district because by his own admission, his primary residence is elsewhere. Not to mention Joe Biden thinks he is not patriotic anymore.

And the judge said to me, 'Can, you know, can you tell the truth and be fair?' And I said, 'That's what journalists do.' And everybody in the courtroom laughed. It was the most hurtful moment I think I've ever had." http://newsbusters.org/node/14050 Spectacular.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 10:07 AM) Well, he wants to cut back on government waste. Why spend $100, when you can spend $22? Yeah, judging by the bills they have passed, that is an absurd idea. The 22 DVDs were probably a $2 million dollar earmark.

But maybe the last minute gift buying at Best Buy had something to do with it. They probably got them on clearance at Circuit City

So wait, the word of Joe the Plummer can be applied to the GOP, but Rush Stewart doesn't represent the left at all? OK that is just laughable.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 09:01 AM) what "international incident"? And dude... it's a freaking DVD!! It's not like he gave the PM polio or the plague. Its the point of it all. We were told for eight years about every single time Bush did something wrong, and now you all are all sensative about Obama getting the same treatment? Tell me what the reaction would have been if Bush had given non-functioning DVDs to a partially blind guy? Please try to explain to me how no one would have made a big deal out of it. http://www.thetrumpet.com/index.php?q=6028.4417.0.0 The press confrence really looked bad in England. They really hammered Obama for it over there. Of course we didn't hear about it here. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.p...oryId=101561670

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 20, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) How is buying a DVD for a friend "the stereotype of the arrogant Americans"? THe dude bought him a DVD. BIG DEAL! The same friends he already snubbed and created an international incident in England with? Yeah, its not a real good follow up to the first big misstep with our closest ally.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) This was the biggest slap in the face thing in a long long time. This guy seriously has no clue on international political ettiquete (sp)... he's too busy being an arrogant dick. Yes, I said it. I know it's symbolic... but dammit, have your staff take care of the things that are highly symbolic and do the right thing. His mere "presence" is supposed to awe people, and it's becoming very nauseating. /waits for the "oh it doesn't really matter" pitchfork crowd defending Obama's every breath... More than anything it reinforced the stereotype of the arrogant Americans who think the world should do everything the way that they do. Bush got tattoed for this all of the time, and it looks like nothing is changing here either in terms of the way things are done.

Sergio Miranda Traded to MIL
I would guess it a deal for someone we have never heard of before, in a swap of minor league players to fill spots in each teams respective systems. All of the sudden the Sox are deep at corner infield postions with guys like Brandon Allen and Viciedo pushing for potential spots at first base in the very near future. I wouldn't be surprised if we brought in a leadoff type potential hitter with some wheels who plays CF or a middle IF spot.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) But he was there before the checks left, regardless of the mobility of the cows, or their vests, and knowing what the reactions WOULD be, he should have TRIED to do something before then, not AFTER most of the country calls for his head. I don't blame him for the contracts, I think he royally f***ed up in not trying to do something before the checks went out. Not as big a f***up for giving out contracts that allow for bonuses when you bankrupt a country, but still a f***up. I also just got done reading that if hadn't have paid the bonuses he exposed the company to lawsuits that could have cost them 3Xs the bonus amounts or more.
