  1. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) Well...my director called us into rehearsal today (it was TBA) after a not so inspiring rehearsal last night. I was hoping and working on getting out of it but I can't. So I have to be at the theatre from 12:00 til 5:00. Sorry guys. It sucks. I want to play softball. Its best that way anyway... that fur would have REEKED after that much rain.
  2. The only bright spot was taking my girls to their first baseball game ever. They had fun, mostly because they didn't realize what was going on in the field of play.
  3. Cubs fans would handle a loss better, there is no doubt in my mind. They have been conditioned with 100 years of losing, what is another year. Sox fans on the other hand have gotten to the point where they can't handle losing to any team, let alone the Cubs. Heck the way this place acted after the first crosstown series, I would imagine the suicide hotline would get pretty busy with a Cubs winner.
  4. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) It's not supposed to be a formal thing. As far as I can tell, it's just something he does for fun. Who cares if he's neutral or not? If he can't maintain a professional level for the all of two seconds it takes to type one of those things it, it probably means his reporting isn't going to be any better. Everytime you read anything by him, it means you have to take out the microscope to find out not only what he is saying, but why he is saying it. Its the same reason I don't get my news from Keith Olberman. By the time you can filter out the crap and bias, you have no idea if what you are left with is worth a s*** anyway.
  5. The line between good and bad is smaller in the NFL than any other professional sports league. Its not that hard to envision a scenario where this does happen.
  6. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 21, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) How about an economy sustained by the government borrowing money and giving it to the citizens? How many of the nearly 3 million government employees are you looking to fire?
  7. Beckham will sign, I would bet the farm on that. The Sox don't draft guys they can't sign with their top pick.
  8. 55-42 +1/2 game over MN 91 days in first place this year.
  9. Thanks again to everyone who turned out and made the second annual softball game a success. WSI didn't have as many people show up, but we definately had more fun this year than last because of the conditions. I can't wait to do it again next year!!!
  10. Once Beckham gets done, this was a solid draft, regardless of what Long does.
  11. WHat is Chuck Haegers schedule?
  12. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 05:56 PM) Is there anybody who thinks Fannie and Freddie are not too big? It's not a position against private banking. I like the idea of making them fully public, but part of the reason I like that is because I see them becoming much less important in that scenario. You cut out shareholder interests, and you get them back to their original purpose -- providing limited injections of liquidity into the mortgage market. The private sector (properly regulated) gradually takes over much of the business Fannie and Freddie currently do, and the government stops subsidizing Fannie and Freddie shareholders. I'd love to see the government get out of the mortgage business all together. Fully privatized would be a dream.
  13. OK. Keep it civil or the thread bites the dust.
  14. QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 19, 2008 -> 08:47 AM) It's just rain. It looks like it should be out in the next hour-ish. We are still planning on playing.
  15. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) did the sox play and win today?? im to busy watchinhg sex and the city here
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Duke Nuke Em has indicated to me on several occasions he wants to come back but he hasn't been allowed to. Then again I know him fairly well and that might not be completely accurate. Who has he asked? I'll be honest, I don't remember it being talked about. Usually a person asks one of the admins, and then we discuss it as a group, and decide that way. If he wants to drop me a line, feel free. We'll talk as a group about it.
  17. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:33 PM) http://twitter.com/cst_sox Boy he is kind of an ass in his postings. He sure makes no attempt to be nuetral and just report the news, that is for sure.
  18. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) Don't make me show you one. You wouldn't...
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:21 PM) This is the same argument I hear people make who don't care enough to vote for elected officials. They say their vote doesn't matter. Well, if everyone took that stance, then we wouldn't have a democracy anymore. And in the case of a Senator, the argument is much, much more hollow. There are only 100 of them, and they are PAID and ELECTED to vote on issues. If they don't do that the great majority of the time, then they are quite simply failing their constituents. It absolutely matters, more than any other single thing they do. I don't think I could have said it any better. I just wish I could do my job 2/3 of the time and have someone defend me.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:07 PM) From a political scientist perspective, it really doesn't matter whether they are there or not. And it can be argued that they are serving their constituents by running for higher office because their interests are better represented there. If it doesn't matter, why do we elect them and support the entire Washington infrastructure in the first place?
  21. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Bea Arthur. Rex in bikershorts!!!!
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Honestly no, they're not. You've looked at records of proceedings on house.gov or senate.gov before I assume? There are plenty of votes of the "Voted YES on congratulating some person on some accomplishment" variety. Now if we're talking something like telecom immunity, or immigration reform, they'll fly back to Washington for those. I am guessing they got the 99 total, they took out that crap, or the total would have been WAY higher.
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) yes and no. There are some votes that are so unanimous that there largely isnt a point in going back. I'd be more interested in "close vote" presence statistics. What bothered me was this: You can attack Obama for a "flip-flop" on FISA. I get that that's fine. at least he voted. On the Medicare vote a few weeks back that was skin tight in votes, McCain didnt show up (Ted Kennedy did!) and released a press release saying he liked parts, but didnt like others. No indication if he would have voted for it or not. now THAT is vote dodging. Who said I wasn't upset about it? You all do a fine job of reporting every single one of McCain's downfalls. What's the need to replicate that? There is no one else who talks about Obama's similar activities. If you were doing that, I wouldn't have posted it again either.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 11:42 AM) I don't think there has ever been a time where a Senator or Congressman running for president didn't miss a lot of votes. They do show up for the "important" votes. It's not something I'm really concerned about. FWIW, they are both below average when compared with their peers. And to me, they are all important votes. If they weren't important, they wouldn't get to the level where they are being voted on in the first place.
  25. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) Why do you keep on getting banned?Furthermore, why do they keep taking you back? He's not the same person that used to get into trouble all of the time. He has grown up a lot since those days. On the last thing, we are a pretty easy going bunch. We don't have a bunch of silly rules that we get off in enforcing. If people ask to come back here, and actually indicate that they want to change whatever got them banned in the first place, usually we give people the chance to try posting here again. Beastly isn't the first or last person in that situation.
