  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) He was linked to the trade before. I thought the Marlins were enamored with his "stuff" Then why would they be asking for Politte now? That doesn't make any sense. If the Marlins were good with the Marte part of the deal, why would that change? Just by logic, that saids to me that they wanted more out of the deal, and that is why they went to Politte.
  2. He is slowly growing on me. It is rough because Dave Wills had such an infectious personality. You felt the pain of the games with him, along with the elation. Dolgin is solid on his knowledge and stuff like that, but replacing Dave Wills is a big set of shoes to fill. I keep trying to judge Dolgin in a vacuum, but I can't do it yet.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) I am as big of a jenks fan as anyone. But getting rid of Politte is silly. He has been a big cog in the bullpen this year. He has been getting righties and lefties out. He has been a bulldog in the pen. Jenks has some great stuff, but still needs time to learn how to pitch at this level. Marte, you can go now. I will drive him to the airport. Politte >>>> Baez Who saids that the Marlins want Marte?
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:16 AM) Running around in an open field swinging metal bats during a lightening storm is not the smartest way to spend an evening. :rolly In our defense, there had been no thunder or lightning up to that point... Plus I was in the field with a leather glove
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) 20 bucks says the Slackhawks don't make the playoffs. Only for you. Trust me and my 13 years of experience when I say this... You don't want to bet this dude on hockey. You might as well start making out the check now.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) Just something very eerie about this whole launch/trip. Hope everything goes right. It was the sameway after Challenger. Everyone held their breath for at least the first 91 seconds, if not for the whole mission. It will be the sameway if not worse because the last disaster occured on reentry, so no one will breath easy until that Shuttle is safely on the ground.
  7. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) This is why none of us are gm's, the tendency to overreact to one game. I'd love to have Overbay and I'm sure Kenny's looking but he's not going to go nuts now because of tonight. Good post Row.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) Is Politte signed beyond this season? Maybe the thinking is Jenks could take Politte's role. Politte has been awesome this season, I thought he should have been an All Star, however, I would not be surprised if he starts getting touched up soon. Also, maybe this is also tied into possibly acquiring Baez. Who knows other than KW. There are going to be a ton of rumors, some with some truth some with none, until trades are made or the deadline passes. Politte has a team option, fairly resonable IIRC.
  9. And my aunt would be my uncle if she had balls... You can just take a limited stat pack and extrapolate it out and say that Ross Gload=Lyle Overbay. The game of baseball doesn't work that way.
  10. Its funny how loud people scream for trades, until they realize that the other teams want decent players from us in exchange for their good players. That Willie Harris, Joe Borchard, Felix Diaz, Greg Norton package must not have been nearly as attractive in real life as it was on the PS2. Guys if we are going to do a deadline deal this year, it is going to cost us. 23 team are within 5 games of a playoff spot. There are so few teams who want to subtract players, that the prices are insane for good players.
  11. I'll bet this was about the quickest divorce in the history of Kansas...

    Good thread idea.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:28 PM) Wait... Since when does Red Roof Inn have internet???? Or do you have a laptop with wireless internet? Try watching any of the gazillion Red Roof Inn commercials during a Sox game where they show the dude on his lap top in his hotel room, maybe that will answer your question
  14. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 07:57 AM) Sorry to be so negative but how many managers give their team MVP as many days off as Ozzie does? Not that is makes sense with him coming from the Japanese League where they play about 20 less games, or being his first time through the American League or anything... Trust me, there have been plenty of us who have been singing Tads praises for quite a while now as we have recognized that what Iguchi does, doesn't necesarily show up in the stat page, dispite the out comes of games. And I know for some if it doesn't translate to OPS, OBP, SLG, NPERA, BA, RSIP2O, or some abreviation that is doesn't compute... But when you manager calls you out to praise you as the MVP of the best team in baseball, that should be all you need to know, stats or no stats.
  15. I almost got hit by lightning while playing softball last night. The electricity flowed through the air, and the air turned a pinkish-yellow hue, and then the lighthing hit withing a couple of hundred feet of us. Needless to say the game was over at that point.

I watched "Office Space" on AMC last night during "rain delay theater", damn I love the movie.

Rome is on my "must see" list after the Valley of the Kings in Eygpt and Jerusalem.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) Hello Mr. Overbay my name is Greg Walker, I need to talk to you about your high BA and low power. I have worked with lots of hitters on the whitesox and have a fool proof method of giving you more power for just a slight drop in BA. 2006 Overbay hits 30 homers and has a 212 BA LOL You know how some jokes start with "stop me if you have heard this one before..."? well... STOP!!!!
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) I guarantee you that if Damon doesn't resign with the Red Sox, they'll trade for Baldelli. Young and Crawford are the only guaranteed members of their offense. Gomes is more of a DH. Tampa doesn't have the money to go out and sign a FA starting pitcher. They need to have prospects to trade in order to get the starter, and they'll have no problem bringing in more outfielders. Rocco Baldelli will not be a Red Sox. He is 180 degrees from what they are looking for with the Bill James philosophy on OBP. He only took 30 walks last year and had an OBP of only .326. It will never happen.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) i don't watch MTV. nobody should. MTV quit being watchable when some idiot decided to put shows on it. I haven't watched it since 8th grade, and I am old.
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) I really don't think that Melvin misses Podsednik or Vizcaino that much... And we don't miss second place all that much either
  22. Wow, Sorry to hear that Alex. Ang and I were crushed last year when our 10 month old kitten died suddenly of pnuemonia. They grow on you quickly and become a part of your family.
  23. I said this in another thread, but if this is going to be the Overbay thread, I'll post it here again. Overbay would be a perfect short and long term fit for the White Sox. Plus with the duel successes of the Pods/Viz-Lee trade, I could see these teams matching up for another deal as the Brewers would like to free up some spots for their big prospects, and the Sox would like a shot at some of their players.
  24. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) Although I like the idea of having the tallest in the U.S., especially beating out New York, it wouldn't be the world's tallest as stated in the article. It is the tallest planned building in the world. They have no idea what the building in Dubai is going to be like. The plans are top secret.
