  1. You should know by now that "eye test" is internet speak for "confirmation bias".
  2. If you watched games you would have seen that the stuff is there, but he was hit like batters knew what was coming in the last month of the season. To me that screams tipping. That is something that can be fixed. I would be a lot more worried if his velocity was down, or his off speed stuff wasn't there.
  3. Let's be honest here. If Kopech really is a starter, what kind of odds are you giving him to make it an entire season? Same for Dallas. Definitely same for Rodon seeing as he has done it once in 7 years. That's without bad luck on Lynn, Cease, and/or Gio. It might not be a top level guy, but having at least six starters at our disposal, with options for a 7th or 8th which can be kept at AAA are reasonable.
  4. Well hopefully he is getting a solid bottle with it.
  5. He had a high ERA in a year where he didn't get a spring training, and in the next year when he got a 3 week spring training. Once he got back to normal, he was outstanding. Based on the teams chasing him and offers there were for him, other teams felt the same way.
  6. Weren't you JUST the one who was all over ageism due to a commonly misunderstood phrase? And now this? Funny how that works.
  7. If you put Jose into the "good teammate" role where his having a seat every few weeks means his valued teammate gets to play a bit more, I think you can get Jose on board with this. Tony, who the F knows.
  8. Fair. But I couldn't resist making the calculation either.
  9. I think its a good reason to make him NOT play 150 games, and one that might work.
  10. I think between injuries and rotating players you can get everyone plenty of games in a system like this. There are teams that do it. I mean if we need to trade from strength to do get what we need that is one thing, but when you see the super depth happening around the league, I don't see having redundancy as a bad thing.
  11. I know everyone is talking about RF and 2B, but we have some other roster work to do. We definitely have some work to do in building the pen again, and we probably need another starter.
  12. At the 0.05% interest offered by my local bank, compounded daily from a short term interest account, they made about $10,000 a day on that $96 million.
  13. You are ahead of me, but nice to know they are happening.
  14. The scariest thing of all is TLR assuming a more official front office role.
  15. "evaluating the team" is a perpetual process. They have had an idea of what they want to do for quite a while now, along with iterations of that plan based on changes in who is willing to come, what they would cost, etc. That being said, it is all irrelevant to a post season presser, as Rick Hahn isn't going to tell us what his plan is anyway. He is going to lawyer speak his way around for an hour, and say a lot of words without saying anything really important at all.
  16. Grandal didn't even lead the team in PBs.
  17. If he is, that probably answers the ReyLo question. They will certainly tender him, and if he has to be on the roster next year, it will most likely be in the pen.
  18. There are about zero scenarios that involve Jose Abreu on another roster next year. There isn't even a real need to discuss it.
  19. After reading a story about the state of the Sox bullpen next year, the Sox might well need to bring back Kimbrel. -Hendriks is back, as is Bummer. -They are probably losing Kopech to the starting rotation. -Tepera is a free agent. -Going to guess that Crochet returns to the pen in an attempt to stretch him out over the season, but its possible they MiLB him to use him as a true starter to stretch him out for at least a portion of the season. At this stage we probably have 4 relievers we can relatively count on. -Cross Evan Marshall off of the list for 22. -Reynaldo Lopez is an arb guy who the team will probably offer, but do they start him in AAA as a starter, or use him as a long man in the MLB pen? -Now we are down to Ruiz, Burr, Foster, Fry. -You have returning injured pitchers in Jimmy Cordero and Jon Stiever. -Past that? Jimmy Lambert, who will probably be a AAA starter. There aren't any big time prospects waiting in the wings here.
  20. If you think the catchers were responsible for most of the bases stolen against the team this year, you didn't watch the games. The pitchers did NOTHING to hold runners, and they ran with huge jumps on a regular basis.
  21. I am not sure why you are so upset about this. One of two things is going to happen. Either they are waiting because Rick Hahn is leaving the organization, or they will have it soon enough. Either way, the Sox aren't a team that advertises the step by step of these kinds of things, so pull your undies out of your rear end and relax. It will happen soon enough, and you will have a new list of things to be mad about.
  22. Not to mention FIP only cares about plays. So when a play isn't made with 2 outs, and then a three run homer is hit, FIP doesn't care. It is expected ER because it is a homer.
