So while he is on the 40 man roster, and therefore wouldn't have been exposed to the Rule 5, he still either needs to make a major league roster, or he needs to be exposed to waivers to be sent to the minors. He doesn't need to be on the roster all year to be kept, but he would need to clear waivers to go to the minors.
