I don't see that happening. KW would let Contreras leave via free agency and throw McCarthy into the rotation before he would sign Contreras and trade McCarthy. KW has all but stated that McCarthy is untradeable in his eyes. I think KW was banking on Hermanson being healthy but now it's pretty obvious that he isn't. I don't have a big problem with KW banking on one of these random lefties to pan out. Afterall, the guy that wins the LOOGY job will only have to be able to get a lefty or two out.

I would hope that Hermanson is made the mop-up guy if he is even on the roster come opening day. But I read something about the Sox using McCarthy the same way they used El Duque in the playoffs last season. There was some issue about how it takes McCarthy longer to warm up than a reliever because he's been a starter for so long. Did you see what happened in today's game? He was throwing meatballs and was yanked due to some sort of injury.

Agreed, the Cintron trade was a steal IMO. And Scott Williamson would be a nice guy to trade for. He's rumored to be on the block and is under contract for one year and will earn $2 million this season. He could be used in setup and as a backup closer in case Jenks falters.

I agree with you about getting a big name reliever. I don't think teams will trade those guys before the season even starts. I'm thinking of a guy who's on the bubble. A guy I would have loved to claim off waivers was Joel Peralta when the Angels DFA'd him but the Royals obviously had waiver priority over us and snatched him up. But he's the type of guy I see us trading for -- a guy with good stuff who hasn't done too much in the majors yet.

Well, if Hermanson could be counted on for around a 4.00 ERA we probably wouldn't need another arm. But now it looks like he will be lucky to put up an ERA under 5 so we need another arm.

When has KW ever worried about the cost of players? If we have a hole, KW will fill it before the season starts. Right now, it looks like we have a hole in the bullpen. We need another reliever if Hermanson shows no signs of improving health-wise and stuff-wise.

Hermanson actually showing that he isn't healthy changes things. If he was healthy, I wouldn't propose that KW should trade for another reliever. But it's obvious that Hermanson isn't 100%.

I know that. But it's not like KW is afraid to give up talent to fill holes and the payroll has expanded. I just don't see KW adding a luxury guy like Cintron that we really didn't need and then not even filling a known hole in the bullpen.

KW just traded for a backup infielder which he even called a luxury pickup. Why wouldn't he trade for a reliever if one of our current guys looks injured and it's affecting his pitching? Afterall, our bullpen will have more of an impact on our season than Alex Cintron will.

The Vikings are saying that Chester Taylor will get 20-30 carries a game so it looks like he will be their feature back. Looks like Mewelde Moore will stick with punt/kickoff returns. I doubt they will draft a RB unless it's a really late round pick.

Paulie got 5 years, $60 million. He's not exactly hurting for cash because he stayed here. He turned down $5 million more and playing for a crappy team in Baltimore to stay where he is loved. Not really a tough decision. I'm glad he decided to take a bit less money to stay here but I think you're overstating it a bit.

I hope not. Redding looks as terrible as Hermanson and Tracey isn't ready yet, IMO. I would even try Hideo Nomo as a reliever but he will probably get roped. KW needs to swing a trade.

Singleton just said that Hermanson's health is in question and we will find out more later.
