Cuban WBC Baseball Team Defections
How is this offensive or distasteful? Cuba is pretty much a s***hole and there's a reason that these guys defect. Castro is a f***ing loon. I hope the best players defect and join the White Sox.

Did the girl know who Anderson was? I'm sure if she had known he was a major league ballplayer she would have been going downtown in a matter of minutes.

Closer or setup suits Hermanson
I'm worried the most about Contreras, Hermanson, and Politte. I'm not to worried about Buehrle, Garcia, Vazquez, and Garland.

A Philly-Mets fight for Contreras?
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/01/white_sox_inter.html Is this guy's "solid source close to the Phillies" just Howard Eskin of 610 WIP sports radio in Philadelphia? :headshake

Closer or setup suits Hermanson
Agreed, that's why I don't want to see him as a late-inning setup man. Last season was a career year for him and I don't expect to see him with an ERA anywhere near 2.00. Especially not with 33 strikeouts in 57.1 IP.

Who will win the last outfielder spot?
Man, Borchard's numbers in 2001 at AA were great. So much promise. But he hit well enough in Spring Training, Charlotte, and with the Sox last year to get the last outfielder job. He should be able to win it outright.

That's the role I like him in.

State of the Union Thread
Why should the money of hard workers in this country be taken away and given to the non-producers? I noticed that as well. Pretty funny. It's against the rules. They had every right to detain her. She was invited to the speech to be an observer, not make her own personal message. They released her while the speech was still ongoing.

CSN Goes Back to the Diamond
Crede's walkoff was more important. I could see the argument that Pierzynski's homer was more exciting though. That was a crazy ninth inning.

Yep, he's one of those guys that you would never expect him to have the voice that he does.

How about middle relief? Jenks is the closer and Politte and Cotts already took up the setup jobs.

Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp
I think that Willie Harris is a bit too overrated. He has some value as a bench player because of his speed but the fact that he can only truly play 2B makes him less valuable. He refused to learn how to play SS and he isn't very good in CF. So he's not really a utility-man, he's really just a speedy backup 2B with absolutely no power. I think there's a reason Willie had to sign a minor league contract. I agree that Mirabelli for Loretta was a really good trade for Boston though. Alex Cora's glove makes him more valuable to a team as a utility-man. He can play 2B and SS. Willie plays one position. I wouldn't even be shocked to see Willie not even make Boston's roster since they already have Loretta, Graffanino, and Cora to play 2B. At that point, Willie has to beat out Adam Stern for the 4th OF / backup CF job. I'm not even sure he will be able to do that. Willie should have signed with the Rockies. He would have had a better chance of making their roster and having a good offensive season. He would have actually been able to platoon some with Luis A. Gonzalez at 2B with the Rockies.

Sarcasm... I hope at least.

Desperate Twins sign Ruben Sierra
To get a job with the Twins all you have to be is old, cheap, bad, or all three. Tony Batista and Ruben Sierra fill all three of the criteria.

Loretta is only under contract for 2006 at $3.25 million. He's a free agent after 2006.

Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp
Don't forget that Boston took on Mike Lowell's entire 2-year, $18 million dollar contract. He sure sucked horribly last season (roids?).

Red Sox trade for Coco Crisp
Do you even have to ask? Coco Crisp is one of the greatest center fielders in the history of the MLB!
